You cannot run a Palworld server on a PS5. A PC that you control or a rented game-server host must run the dedicated server; PS5 players then join it through Palworld’s Community Servers browser. Install the dedicated-server app (Steam app ID 2394010), allow and forward UDP 8211, and keep the server online. Crossplay is enabled by default for Steam, Xbox, Windows, macOS and PS5, according to Pocketpair’s official documentation.

What a PS5 Palworld server actually requires
Palworld’s PS5 client is a player application, not a dedicated-server platform. The console cannot host a world for other players. The server process must run on a separate Windows or Linux PC you own, or on a rented Palworld server.
Everyone connects to that server as a crossplay client. Crossplay is on by default across Steam, Xbox, Windows, macOS and PS5. You therefore do not need a PlayStation-specific server build. The important console-specific difference is how players find it: PS5 has no Direct Connect field for entering an IP address and port. They must use the Community Servers browser.

Self-hosting versus renting
Both approaches produce the same result for PS5 players. The trade-off is who supplies the always-on computer, network connection and maintenance.

Choose self-hosting when you already have a reliable PC and are comfortable maintaining it. Choose a rented host when the server needs to stay online while your home PC is off, or when router and firewall configuration is a barrier.
PC requirements for a self-hosted server
Published figures are not official performance guarantees. Ghosting’s 2026 guide lists 16 GB of RAM as a baseline and recommends more than 32 GB for a full server. The same guide estimates 12–15 GB of installation storage after version 1.0. Leave additional free space for updates, save files and backups rather than filling the drive to the estimate.
- Memory: Treat 16 GB as a starting point, not a promise that every player count or setting will run smoothly. More than 32 GB gives a fuller server more headroom, as recommended by Ghosting (2026).
- Storage: Reserve at least the 12–15 GB installation estimate plus working room for updates and world data.
- Network: Use a stable wired connection if possible. The server must remain reachable while players are online.
- Power and uptime: Disable sleep and hibernation on the host PC. A sleeping or powered-off computer is an offline server.
- Administrative access: You need permission to install SteamCMD, edit server files, create a firewall rule and configure port forwarding on the router.
Install the dedicated server with SteamCMD
Steam app ID 2394010 is the Palworld dedicated-server application. The exact SteamCMD location is up to you; use a dedicated folder so that saves and configuration are easy to back up.
- Install SteamCMD for your operating system from Valve’s distribution and create a folder for the Palworld server files.
- Start SteamCMD and sign in anonymously unless the current SteamCMD build requires a different authentication method.
- Install the application by running the standard SteamCMD sequence, substituting your chosen path for the install directory:
force_install_dir <palworld-server-folder>

app_update 2394010 validate
quit - Launch the server once from its installation folder. The first run creates the save and configuration structure. Stop it cleanly after the initial files appear.
- Locate the configuration generated by the first launch. Palworld settings are commonly maintained through the server’s
PalWorldSettings.ini; use the file and format created by your current server build rather than copying an old template from an unrelated version.
The app ID and SteamCMD workflow identify the software to install; they do not determine whether your router or firewall allows public connections. Network configuration is a separate step.

Configure the world without breaking crossplay
Set the world name, password and gameplay options in the server configuration exposed by your build or hosting panel. Make one change at a time, save it, and restart the server so you can identify a setting that causes a startup problem.
Crossplay is already enabled by default for the supported platforms listed by Pocketpair. Do not add a PlayStation-only switch simply because a guide says to select “PS5.” A Citadel Servers article described a PlayStation 5 choice in a platform dropdown, but that advice predates crossplay-by-default behavior. If a current hosting panel presents a platform field, follow that panel’s current documentation and verify the result in the console browser rather than assuming the old toggle is required.
Keep a copy of the original configuration before editing. A malformed line can prevent the server from starting or silently leave an option at its default. If the server fails after a change, restore the previous file, start the server, and reapply changes individually.
Forward UDP 8211 and open the firewall
Ghosting’s 2026 guide identifies UDP port 8211 as the port to forward to the server machine. Forwarding must point to the host PC’s local address, not to the router itself.
- Give the host PC a stable local address. Create a DHCP reservation in the router or configure a static address so the forwarding rule does not become stale after a reboot.
- Create the router rule. Forward external UDP port
8211to UDP port8211at the host PC’s local address. If the router asks for a protocol, choose UDP rather than TCP-only. - Allow the server through the PC firewall. Permit the Palworld server executable or an inbound UDP rule for port 8211 on the network profile used by the host.
- Check for a second router. If your home network uses two routers, the forwarding rule may need to exist on both, or the inner router must be placed in the outer router’s bridge/DMZ arrangement recommended by your network equipment.
- Start the server and test from outside your home network. A friend on a different connection is a more useful test than connecting from the same LAN, because some routers do not support loopback connections.
Do not assume that opening a TCP rule, changing the game port in one place, or forwarding to a changing local IP will work. The server listing can remain invisible even while the process appears healthy on the host PC.

Keep the server running and visible
- Start the dedicated-server process from the installation folder and wait until it reports that it has finished loading.
- Leave the host PC powered on, connected to the internet and prevented from sleeping.
- From a separate PS5 account, open Palworld and select the multiplayer option that leads to Community Servers.
- Search for the exact server name. Refresh the list after the server has been running for a few minutes; browser results are not necessarily instantaneous.
- Join with a test character before inviting the rest of the group. Verify that the world loads, the password (if used) works and progress persists after a controlled restart.
There is no PS5 Direct Connect fallback. If the listing never appears, solve the listing, port or crossplay problem rather than looking for an IP-entry box on the console.
Using a rented host
A rented provider replaces your home PC, power bill and most router work, but it does not automatically guarantee console visibility. Before paying, check the provider’s current Palworld documentation or ask support all of the following:
- Does the service run the current Palworld dedicated-server build and allow crossplay with PS5?
- Does it publish the server in Palworld’s Community Servers browser, not only through an IP address?
- Can you edit the world configuration and server name?
- Can you create backups and restore an earlier save?
- Can you restart the process and apply updates without losing the world?
- What location and resource limits apply to the plan?
Hosted panels can hide the underlying port and firewall work. If the panel exposes a “console,” “crossplay” or “platform” setting, use the current labels shown by that panel and restart after saving. The exact panel controls needed to list a server for console browsers vary by provider and are not established by a universal Palworld setting; confirm the behavior in the Community Servers browser.
How PS5 players join
- Launch Palworld on PS5 and choose the multiplayer or online-play entry point.
- Open Community Servers, rather than looking for Direct Connect.
- Search the server name exactly as configured. Distinctive names are easier to find than generic names.
- Select the listing and enter the password if the server uses one.
- If the listing is absent, refresh the browser and confirm with the administrator that the server process is running and the listing is intended for console players.
Because crossplay is enabled by default, the server can accept players from the supported PC and Xbox ecosystems as well as PS5, provided they are on compatible game versions.

The server process is not actually running
Check the host PC or panel status first. A closed terminal, crashed process or sleeping computer produces no listing. Start the server again and wait for its normal ready state before testing from PS5.

UDP 8211 is blocked
Recheck the router’s destination address, the UDP protocol selection and the host firewall rule. Make sure the host’s local address has not changed. Testing from a different internet connection helps distinguish a public-port problem from a local browser issue.
The listing is filtered or stale
Clear search text, review any region or password filters, and refresh Community Servers. Search by the full name and allow time for a newly started server to register. A duplicate or very common name can make the correct entry difficult to identify.

Crossplay is on by default according to Pocketpair’s documentation. Remove obsolete PlayStation-only instructions from copied configurations. For a rented host, inspect the provider’s current panel and ask support which setting controls console-browser publication.
The game and server versions differ
Update the dedicated server through SteamCMD or the host panel, restart it, and have PS5 players install the current console update. A listing can be present while a version mismatch prevents joining.
The server works locally but not publicly
A local connection does not prove that the internet-facing route is correct. Confirm the port-forward rule, firewall profile and any second-router arrangement, then test from outside the home network.
Updates, saves and routine administration
Schedule maintenance when the group is offline. Stop the server cleanly before copying save files, update the dedicated-server application, start it again and check that the world loads. Keep at least one backup from before each update and store a second copy away from the server PC.
Record the server name, password policy, host machine address and configuration changes. This small change log makes it easier to reverse a setting that causes startup or joining problems. On rented hosts, use the panel’s backup and restart functions and confirm where restored saves are placed before overwriting the active world.
Monitor free storage as the world grows. The 12–15 GB figure from Ghosting (2026) describes the installation estimate after version 1.0, not the total space required for indefinite saves, updates and backups.
Recommended decision
For a household that already owns a suitable, always-on PC, self-hosting gives the most control: install app 2394010, configure the world, forward UDP 8211 and verify the listing in Community Servers. For a group that expects continuous availability or cannot change router settings, rent a host that explicitly supports PS5 discoverability and crossplay. In either case, the PS5 remains the client; the server itself must run elsewhere.
