Use the exact Frozen Apocalypse release
Frozen Apocalypse is an eternal-winter survival modpack built around extreme cold, scarce resources, snowstorms, shelter construction, exploration, and cooperative planning. It is substantially heavier than a vanilla server, so the server and every player must use one matching release.

| Item | Current cited value | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Minecraft version | 1.21.1 | Clients running another Minecraft version will not be compatible. |
| Server loader | NeoForge | Do not substitute Forge for this release. |
| Frozen Apocalypse version | 9.2.0 | The client pack and server pack must use the same pack version. |
| Server-pack archive size | 736.3 MB | This is the download size of the ZIP, not the memory the running server needs. |
| Upload date | September 30, 2026 | Check the project page again before downloading because releases can change. |
The CurseForge project also lists older 1.20.1 Forge server-pack releases. A 1.20.1 Forge pack cannot be mixed with 1.21.1 NeoForge clients. Before anyone connects, write down the three-part identity: Minecraft 1.21.1 + NeoForge + Frozen Apocalypse 9.2.0.
The project page showed 116,560 total downloads in 2026. That number is a volatile project counter, not a measure of server capacity or a guarantee of support.

Choose between home hosting and a managed host
Both approaches can run the same server pack. The difference is who handles the operating system, networking, storage, and recovery work.
| Decision factor | Host at home | Managed Minecraft host |
|---|---|---|
| Setup effort | You install Java, extract the pack, configure the server, and maintain the machine. | A control panel may provide an installer or let you upload the server pack. |
| Network exposure | You must configure the router and firewall for outside players. | The provider normally supplies a public address and handles datacenter networking. |
| File control | Full access to files, logs, worlds, scripts, and backups. | Access depends on the panel and plan; confirm whether FTP, SFTP, or a file manager is included. |
| Backups | You design and verify your own backup routine. | Some plans offer automated backups, but frequency, retention, and restore fees vary. |
| Latency | Depends on your residential upload connection and the host’s location. | Choose a datacenter near most players and verify the available locations. |
| Cost and support | No hosting subscription, but you pay in electricity, hardware, and your own time. | Recurring price and support quality differ by provider and plan. |
The Frozen Apocalypse project and its exact server-pack release promote BisectHosting. DedicatedMinecraft.host, WinterNode, and BoxToPlay also advertise installation or hosting pages for this pack. Those pages do not establish comparable RAM allocations, player limits, uptime, support quality, geography, prices, or affiliate terms. Treat them as options to investigate, not as equivalent specifications. At checkout, confirm the provider explicitly supports NeoForge 1.21.1 and accepts the current 9.2.0 server pack.
What you need before installing
A Java Edition host
Mojang’s official server download states that its setup is compatible only with Minecraft: Java Edition. Bedrock clients and Bedrock server software follow a different setup and cannot join this Java modded server. Use a computer or virtual server that can remain online for the hours your group plays, with enough free disk space for the 736.3 MB archive, extracted files, logs, and a growing world.
Install a Java runtime compatible with Minecraft 1.21.1 and the NeoForge release supplied by the pack. The cited project information does not specify a pack-specific Java major version, so do not guess from an unrelated tutorial: check the release notes or the NeoForge launch error if Java rejects the server. Running java -version in a terminal confirms which runtime your operating system will use.
A separate server directory
Create a dedicated folder such as FrozenApocalypse-1.21.1-server. Keeping the world, configuration, logs, mods, and backups together makes upgrades and restores safer. Do not place the server inside a player’s client installation and do not overwrite a working world while experimenting with a new pack.

The matching client pack
Every player should install the client edition of Frozen Apocalypse 9.2.0 for Minecraft 1.21.1 and NeoForge. A player with the wrong loader, Minecraft version, or pack revision will usually receive a mod-list or protocol mismatch before joining.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteSelf-host the server step by step
1. Download the server pack
- Open the Frozen Apocalypse project page and select the server-pack download for Minecraft 1.21.1, NeoForge, version 9.2.0.
- Save the 736.3 MB ZIP instead of downloading an older 1.20.1 Forge archive.
- Keep a copy of the original ZIP outside the live server folder. It gives you a known-good source if an update damages the installation.
2. Extract the supplied files
Extract the archive into the dedicated server directory. Use the launch files and loader components included by the pack author for that release. A server pack can contain files that are not present in a client installation, so copying a client’s mods folder is not a substitute for extracting the server pack.
3. Perform the first launch
Run the included NeoForge server launcher from the server directory. The first run may stop after creating configuration files and eula.txt; that is normal. If the launcher reports that Java is missing or incompatible, fix the runtime before changing mods or deleting files.
4. Accept Mojang’s EULA
Open the generated eula.txt, change eula=false to eula=true, save the file, and run the same launch file again. Mojang’s setup guide requires this explicit acceptance before the server will continue.
5. Configure server.properties
Stop the server before editing configuration. Set a recognizable MOTD, difficulty, maximum players, and whitelist policy. Review the port and address settings as well as gameplay options supplied by the pack. Mojang’s Java guide uses 25565 as the default server port and documents query.port; if you change the listening port, use that same value in your firewall, router rule, and connection instructions.

- Whitelist: Enable it for a private group, then add each player’s exact Java username from the console or the appropriate operator command.
- Operators: Grant operator privileges only to people who need administrative commands.
- MOTD: Include the pack version and a contact name so players know which server they reached.
- Difficulty and rules: Frozen Apocalypse is designed around survival pressure; agree on difficulty, PvP, and grief-prevention expectations before opening the world.
6. Test locally first
Start the server and wait until the console reports that it is ready for connections. On the same computer, connect to localhost. From another device on the same home network, use the host’s private LAN address. A successful local test separates mod, Java, and world problems from router problems.
7. Open access for outside players
For friends outside your home, forward the configured Java port (25565 unless you changed it) from the router to the host computer’s private address. Permit the server process through the operating-system firewall, and give trusted players your public address and port. Mojang warns that home-network changes require care; expose only the required port, keep the operating system and Java runtime updated, and do not publish your administrative console or remote-desktop credentials.
Residential internet connections can change public addresses or block inbound traffic. If forwarding fails despite a correct rule, check whether your ISP uses carrier-grade NAT, whether the host’s private address changed, and whether another firewall is dropping the connection. A managed host avoids most of this router work.
8. Add players and document the connection details
Give players the server address, port if it is not 25565, the exact pack version, and the rule that their client must use Minecraft 1.21.1 with NeoForge. Keep the address in a private group channel rather than posting it publicly. If you enabled a whitelist, add players before asking them to connect.
How much RAM does Frozen Apocalypse need?
No cited source publishes a defensible, pack-specific RAM requirement or a tested player-count limit. Do not treat the 736.3 MB ZIP size as a memory recommendation: the running server also holds Java overhead, loaded mods, chunks, entities, caches, and the world.

- Fight your way through an all-new action-adventure game, inspired by classic dungeon crawlers and set in the Minecraft universe!
- Play with up to four friends or brave the dungeons alone. Battle new-and-nasty mobs across action-packed, wildly varied levels, in a quest to defeat the evil Arch-Illager!
Instead, size memory from observation:
- Start with the memory allocation offered by your machine or hosting plan, leaving headroom for the operating system and file cache.
- Run the actual activities your group will perform: simultaneous exploration, snowstorms, base construction, and travel through new terrain.
- Watch the server log, tick-time or TPS indicators, garbage-collection pauses, and operating-system memory pressure.
- If the Java heap repeatedly reaches its limit or the server pauses during ordinary play, increase the allocation in a small step and retest. If the machine swaps or the host throttles the process, adding heap will not solve the underlying limit.
Use the launch script’s existing memory settings or your provider’s memory control rather than inventing a command-line filename. Record the allocation that worked for your group, because a world with more explored terrain and more players can require more resources later.
Deploy with a managed Minecraft host
A managed service is useful when you do not want to expose a home router, leave a personal computer running, or maintain Java and backups yourself. The exact workflow varies, but the following sequence avoids the most common mismatches.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Verify compatibility before paying: Ask whether the plan supports NeoForge for Minecraft 1.21.1 and whether you can install Frozen Apocalypse 9.2.0 from an uploaded server pack.
- Check resources and limits: Confirm allocated memory, CPU policy, storage, player slots, world-size limits, and whether those values are dedicated or shared. No cited page supplies a comparable benchmark.
- Check locations: Pick a datacenter close to most players and ask whether the advertised location is available on the plan you want.
- Check backups: Confirm schedule, retention, off-site storage, restore procedure, and whether backups include the complete world and configuration.
- Install the server pack: Use the panel’s NeoForge installer if it explicitly offers the correct version, or upload and extract the supplied 9.2.0 server pack. Do not let an automatic installer silently select an older Forge release.
- Accept the EULA and configure properties: Complete the same
eula.txtandserver.propertiessteps as on a home server. - Run a private test: Join with one client before sharing the address. Check that mods load, the world saves, and the console remains free of repeated errors.
- Record the recovery path: Note where the panel stores backups, how to roll back a world, and how to download logs before inviting the full group.
Providers advertising Frozen Apocalypse installation include BisectHosting, DedicatedMinecraft.host, WinterNode, and BoxToPlay. Their public pages do not establish equal pricing, RAM, support, uptime, or backup policies. Treat every specification as plan-specific and verify it at checkout.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Backups, updates, and world safety
A related Frozen Apocalypse mod page warns that its world-changing mechanics can destroy a world and recommends backups. Apply that warning to the entire modpack: make a restorable copy before changing the pack version, loader, configuration, or individual mods.
- Before an update: Stop the server cleanly, copy the complete world directory and configuration, and retain the original server-pack ZIP.
- Before adding or removing a mod: Make a separate dated backup and test the change on a copy of the world if possible.
- After the update: Start once, inspect the log for errors, join with an administrator, and verify spawn, inventories, dimensions, and key bases.
- Keep generations: Do not overwrite yesterday’s backup immediately. Retain several dated copies so a delayed corruption is recoverable.
- Test restoration: A backup that has never been restored is only an assumption. Periodically copy it to a temporary directory or test server and confirm it opens.
Never let an automatic provider update change Minecraft, NeoForge, or the modpack independently of your players’ clients. Announce a maintenance window, update the server and client pack together, and keep the previous version available for rollback.

Troubleshoot the failures you are most likely to see
“Incompatible mod list” or protocol mismatch
Compare all three identifiers on the server and client: Minecraft 1.21.1, NeoForge, and Frozen Apocalypse 9.2.0. Remove older 1.20.1 Forge files from the test installation and reinstall the matching client pack rather than copying individual mods by hand.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →The server exits immediately
Read the first error in the console, not only the final shutdown line. Check that you launched from the extracted server directory, that Java is installed and compatible, and that the pack’s supplied loader files were not renamed or deleted. If the first launch created eula.txt, set its value to true and launch again.
Players on the LAN can join, but internet players cannot
Confirm the server is listening on the expected port, the operating-system firewall allows it, and the router forwards that port to the host’s current private address. Test from a genuinely external connection, because many routers do not support loopback access through the public address. If the ISP uses carrier-grade NAT, ask whether an inbound address is available or move the server to a managed host.
The world lags during exploration
New terrain generation, many entities, snow effects, and simultaneous travel can create load spikes. Check CPU, memory, disk activity, and tick-time logs while reproducing the problem. Reduce unnecessary view or simulation distances only after recording the current settings, and avoid adding unverified optimization mods to a world without a backup.
A world becomes corrupted after a change
Stop the server, preserve the affected files for diagnosis, and restore the last known-good backup to a separate directory. Do not repeatedly launch the damaged world while changing several variables; that can overwrite evidence and make rollback harder.
Players cannot see the server in a list
Direct-connect using the address and port instead of relying on discovery. Confirm that everyone is using Java Edition and the identical pack, and that the server console shows the connection attempt.
Give players a reliable joining checklist
- Install Minecraft Java Edition 1.21.1.
- Install NeoForge for the release required by Frozen Apocalypse.
- Install the Frozen Apocalypse client pack at version 9.2.0.
- Remove duplicate or older Forge/NeoForge profiles from the test instance.
- Use the server’s exact address and port.
- Read the server rules, whitelist requirements, and backup or maintenance policy.
- Report the complete client log and the time of failure if a connection problem occurs; a screenshot of the disconnect message alone often omits the useful mod name.
Home server or rented server: a practical decision
Choose home hosting when
- You control the router and can safely forward one port.
- The host computer and internet connection can remain available during play.
- You want direct access to every file and are comfortable maintaining backups and Java.
- Your group is small enough that you can monitor performance yourself.
Choose managed hosting when
- You cannot configure inbound networking or do not want to expose a residential address.
- You need a control panel, scheduled backups, datacenter location choices, or provider support.
- You want the server online without leaving a personal computer running.
- You accept a recurring fee and the provider’s limits on files, resources, and restore options.
Whichever route you choose, compatibility is non-negotiable: the server, every client, the loader, and the pack version must agree. Frozen Apocalypse 9.2.0 is a NeoForge 1.21.1 server pack; using the older 1.20.1 Forge package is a different installation, not an upgrade path.
Final setup checklist
- Confirm Minecraft 1.21.1, NeoForge, and Frozen Apocalypse 9.2.0.
- Download the 736.3 MB server-pack ZIP and preserve the original.
- Install a compatible Java runtime on a Java Edition host.
- Extract the pack into a dedicated folder and use its included launch files.
- Run once, set
eula=true, and run again. - Configure MOTD, difficulty, player limit, whitelist, and port in
server.properties. - Test locally, then configure firewall and router forwarding only if outside players need access.
- Make and test dated backups before changing versions or mods.
- Give players the exact client pack and connection details.
For a technically confident owner with a suitable connection, home hosting provides the most control. For everyone else, a managed host can remove router and maintenance work, but only after you verify NeoForge 1.21.1 support, resource allocation, backups, location, price, and recovery terms for the specific plan.
