As of October 14, 2026, the practical route is to rent a DayZ console server, configure the options exposed by the host, and give your players the server details. A PS5 can use PS4 DayZ servers according to available compatibility information, but PlayStation DayZ does not cross-play with Xbox or PC.

On PC, hosting can mean running dedicated-server software on your own computer or renting a machine and installing the software yourself. The PlayStation version works differently. Bohemia Interactive’s console release does not provide a dedicated-server application that you can install on a PS4 or PS5, so the console acts only as a player device.
A PlayStation private server is a managed rental. The host operates the server hardware and DayZ service; you control the server through a browser dashboard or the host’s app. This arrangement also means that the available settings, update process, billing and support are determined by the provider rather than by the console operating system.

- A second PS4 or PS5 to run continuously as a server.
- SteamCMD, a Steam account or PC-only DayZ server files.
- Port forwarding on your home router for the rented server.
- A PC left online while your friends play.

Before you buy: confirm the platform and the rental terms
Choose a product explicitly described as a DayZ server for PlayStation 4/PlayStation 5. A generic game-server package or a PC DayZ package is not automatically compatible with the console edition. Nitrado is the provider named most consistently in current references as the licensed console host. Other sellers advertise PS4 DayZ hosting, but their relationship to the official console arrangement is not always clear.

- When does billing renew, and what happens if a payment fails?
- Can the plan be changed later without deleting the existing world?
- What support channel handles provisioning, outages and account issues?

The wording of buttons differs between providers and can change with an app update. The sequence below describes the console-hosting workflow without assuming a particular dashboard label.

- Open the provider’s DayZ catalogue. Select the PlayStation or console edition. Do not choose a PC instance simply because it has more configuration fields.
- Select the rental term and region shown for your account. Review the recurring charge, renewal date and any one-time setup fee before confirming payment. Save the order confirmation and server identifier.
- Wait for provisioning to finish. A newly purchased instance may first appear as installing, deploying or starting. Do not repeatedly place new orders while the first one is being prepared.
- Open the web control panel or the provider’s mobile app. Sign in with the account used for the purchase and open the DayZ server instance, not a different game or PC server.
- Read the status and version information. A server that is still installing or updating may not appear in the in-game browser. Wait for the panel to report that it is running before troubleshooting the console.
- Set the options the console service exposes. Depending on the provider and current DayZ build, this may include a visible server name, access controls, gameplay settings or restart controls. Console hosting exposes a smaller set of options than PC hosting, so use only fields actually present in your panel.
- Apply or save the configuration. Some changes take effect immediately; others require a restart. If the panel offers separate save and restart actions, save first and then perform the requested restart.
- Give players the discovery details. Share the exact server name and any password or access information that you configured. Tell players which region or search filter to use if the listing is difficult to locate.
- Join from your own PlayStation. Search the DayZ community/private-server browser using the same spelling and filters. If the server is not visible, confirm its status in the panel before changing settings repeatedly.
- Test with one other player. Check that both of you can enter, remain connected and see the intended settings. Test after every major configuration change so you can identify which change caused a problem.

Because the PS5 compatibility behavior is tied to the console’s backward-compatibility implementation, an update to DayZ or PlayStation platform support could change the result. If a PS5 player cannot join, first confirm that the rented instance is a PlayStation server and that both consoles are running the current game update.
How the control panel differs from PC hosting
Console hosting is designed to be managed rather than administered like a PC server. The panel or app is the control surface; you generally do not receive a normal file-system view of the server. Settings are a reduced subset of the options available on PC.

Do not expect a PC tutorial that tells you to download SteamCMD, edit XML or JSON files, or copy mod folders to work on PS4 or PS5. Those instructions describe a different server architecture.

Settings, restarts and the limits of console administration
The exact control list depends on the provider’s current DayZ integration. Use the panel’s documentation and labels as the authority for your instance. A console plan may let you change selected gameplay or access settings and restart the service, but it does not expose every PC setting.
Apply changes methodically
- Change one related group of options at a time.
- Save the configuration before restarting.
- Wait until the panel reports the server as running again.
- Ask one player to test the result before making another change.
- Record the previous values so you can restore a known-good configuration.
Understand the mod limitation
Console DayZ servers generally do not provide the PC mod workflow. You should not promise players a particular mod, custom map or workshop collection unless the provider explicitly documents it for the PlayStation service. If a listing advertises “mods,” ask whether it means server-side settings, cosmetic tools or a true console-supported mod system; those are not interchangeable.
Choosing between an established provider and a third-party listing
Nitrado is the name most consistently associated with Bohemia Interactive’s console hosting arrangement in the available material. Some third-party companies also advertise PS4 DayZ servers, but reseller or licensing status can be unclear. Treat an unfamiliar listing as a service to verify, not as proof that it is an official console partner.

Verification checklist
- Look for an explicit statement that the product supports the PlayStation DayZ edition.
- Confirm that the seller explains where the server appears in the console browser.
- Check whether billing is handled by the seller or by another provider.
- Read the cancellation and data-retention terms before paying.
- Ask support how world data is backed up and restored.
- Check whether the service can be moved or renewed if the seller changes its catalogue.
- Do not send account credentials or console-login details to a host that only needs a hosting account.
A low price is not useful if the instance is for PC, cannot be found from PlayStation, or disappears when a reseller’s account expires. Platform compatibility and clear ownership of the rental matter more than a headline monthly number.

There is no verified current monthly price in the available information. An unofficial summary mentioned a broad estimate of roughly €18–30 per month, but it was not supported by a checked primary price page and should not be used as a quote. Your actual amount can depend on country, currency, taxes, rental duration, promotions and the plan’s capacity.
Before checkout, capture the price shown for your region and note whether it is a promotional first term or the recurring renewal amount. A server that stops renewing can become unavailable to players, and a provider may apply its own retention period before deleting an expired instance. Read those terms rather than assuming that a paused server will remain indefinitely.
Troubleshooting a server that does not appear or accept players
The server is missing from the in-game browser
- Open the provider panel and confirm that provisioning has completed and the status is running.
- Clear filters such as region, passworded servers or community/private listings.
- Search the exact server name; punctuation and spacing can matter.
- Restart the game and search again after the provider reports that an update or restart is complete.
- Check that the rental has not expired or entered a suspended-payment state.
A PS5 player cannot join
Confirm that the instance is a PlayStation server and that the PS5 is using the current DayZ client. The available compatibility information says PS5 can use PS4 servers, but it does not create cross-play with PC or Xbox. If only a PS5 player fails while PS4 players can join, record the exact error and ask the provider whether the current server build supports that client combination.
Players are disconnected after a setting change
Some changes require a restart and may interrupt every connected player. Return to the last known-good values, save them, restart once and test with a small group. Avoid making several unrelated edits during the same restart cycle because that removes the evidence needed to identify the cause.
The panel and the app show different information
Sign out and back in, refresh the browser or update the provider app. Compare the server identifier, status and last-update time rather than relying only on a cached dashboard screen. If the two interfaces still disagree, use the provider’s support channel and include the instance identifier and the time of the failed action.
When PC hosting is the better fit
Choose the PC route only when every intended player uses the PC version and you want the deeper administration that comes with PC server files. PC self-hosting typically involves SteamCMD, configuration files, operating-system maintenance, network and firewall work, backups and responsibility for uptime. Those requirements do not transfer to a PS4 or PS5 server.
If your group is entirely on PlayStation, renting the console service avoids that PC administration but limits you to the controls and compatibility that the provider exposes. Decide based on player platform first; a technically powerful PC setup cannot accept players from the PlayStation edition when cross-play is unavailable.
