To keep screenshots and similar backed-up files out of your main Google Photos view, turn on Hide clutter from apps. The setting organizes the Photos view; Google’s instructions do not describe it as deleting photos or changing whether they are backed up.
Hide screenshots and other app content from Photos view
Google Photos offers the Android setting Hide clutter from apps for backed-up content from other apps. Google gives screenshots, GIFs, and memes as examples of items hidden from the Photos view.

Set different visibility for a particular app
To use a different rule for one app, open Customize by app and select Show all, Hide clutter, or Hide all. This option appears only when Show content from other apps is on. An app-level choice overrides the general setting; for example, WhatsApp can be set to Hide all even while the general setting shows content from other apps.

How this differs from Archive
Hide clutter from apps applies to backed-up content from other apps. Archive is a separate way to hide photos you select individually from Photos view. Archived items remain in albums, search results, and folders on the device, and still count toward Google Account storage. See Google’s instructions for moving photos to Archive on Android.
What to know about photo stacks and platform availability
The cited instructions are for Android; they do not establish whether the same control is available on iOS. Photo stacks are available only in the Google Photos app and only for backed-up photos. Stacks group similar photos for organization and do not change available storage, according to Google’s Android guide.
