How to Hide Cookie Banners in Screenshotlayer with Custom CSS

Screenshotlayer supports custom CSS injection, but hiding a cookie banner requires the right selector for that site and the current documented request syntax.

Screenshotlayer advertises custom CSS injection, so you can hide a cookie banner in a screenshot by targeting that site’s banner element with a stylesheet. There is no universal cookie-banner selector, and the product material available here does not specify the injection parameter or complete request syntax. Find the right selector, use Screenshotlayer’s current documentation for how to submit the CSS, then inspect the returned image.

What Screenshotlayer’s CSS injection can—and cannot—do

Screenshotlayer describes its custom CSS feature as modifying the target website by injecting a user-provided stylesheet appended as a URL: Screenshotlayer product page. That lets you change the page’s appearance for capture, including hiding a consent overlay when your CSS targets the correct element.

The feature description does not establish a universal banner selector, a complete request example, or a guarantee that every banner can be hidden. Consent interfaces may use different markup, be inserted after the page loads, or change between desktop and mobile layouts. A screenshot that omits the banner also does not mean the site recorded consent or that its behavior changed.

How to hide a cookie banner

  1. Inspect the target page

Open the page in a browser and use its developer tools to inspect the banner. Identify a stable class, ID, or other selector for the banner container. Check that the selector identifies only the overlay you want to omit, not a shared container holding useful page content.

  2. Write a narrowly targeted rule

For example, if inspection shows the banner uses the class .consent-banner, a rule might be .consent-banner { display: none !important; }. This is an illustrative selector, not a universal Screenshotlayer selector; replace it with the actual selector on your page. If the banner has separate backdrop and dialog elements, inspect both and target only the elements that should disappear.

  3. Submit the CSS using Screenshotlayer’s documented request format

Screenshotlayer’s product page confirms stylesheet injection, but the material available here does not specify the parameter name, URL encoding rules, or a complete request. Do not assume a parameter name from another screenshot API. Follow the current Screenshotlayer documentation for the exact syntax and how it expects the stylesheet URL to be supplied. Screenshotlayer API requests require an access key.

  4. Choose capture dimensions and timing

Screenshotlayer advertises viewport controls, full-height captures, thumbnail width, and a capture delay. Set a viewport matching the layout you need to evaluate. A delay can help when the page or banner appears asynchronously, but Screenshotlayer does not claim that any delay guarantees every interface is ready.

  5. Check the returned image

Inspect the screenshot, especially at mobile and desktop dimensions when both matter. Confirm that the banner is gone, the underlying page remains intact, and no unrelated element was hidden. If the result appears unchanged after editing CSS, check the request and cache behavior before changing selectors at random.

Cache, output formats, and plan considerations

Screenshotlayer’s FAQ states that its default screenshot cache TTL is 2,592,000 seconds (30 days), and says a lower custom TTL is available. When testing a CSS change, account for the cache and consult the current documentation for the appropriate cache or refresh controls; otherwise, an earlier image may make a successful change look ineffective. The same FAQ lists PNG, JPEG, and GIF output formats and confirms that API requests require an access key: Screenshotlayer FAQ.

The pricing page describes the free plan as non-commercial and commercial use as available on paid plans. Check the current Screenshotlayer plan terms before using captures commercially.

Troubleshooting

  • The banner remains visible: Reinspect the live page for the actual banner selector. It may differ by viewport, be inside an iframe, or be inserted after the initial page render. Confirm the CSS is being submitted using Screenshotlayer’s current documented syntax.
  • The page content disappears too: The selector is too broad or targets a parent container. Narrow it to the banner or its specific backdrop and test the result again.
  • The new CSS appears to have no effect: Check for a cached image. The stated default cache TTL is 30 days; use the current documented cache or refresh controls while testing.
  • The banner flashes or appears in the capture: The capture may occur before the banner is inserted or before the stylesheet takes effect. Review the documented capture-delay option and test the result; no delay is guaranteed to handle every asynchronous page.
  • The result differs on mobile: Inspect the mobile layout separately. Sites may use different markup or banner behavior at different viewport widths.
