Puppeteer is not a supported way to solve Cloudflare challenges on production websites. For a site you own or are authorized to test, use Cloudflare’s Turnstile test keys to check your integration, validate tokens on your server through Siteverify, and first identify whether the behavior is a Challenge Page, a Turnstile widget, or a JavaScript Detection signal.
Can Puppeteer pass Cloudflare?
Not as a supported method for solving production challenges. Cloudflare’s Supported browsers documentation, last updated August 18, 2026, says browser automation frameworks including Puppeteer, Playwright, Selenium, and Cypress are not supported for solving production challenges. This guide is for testing your own site’s integration and diagnosing legitimate visitor problems, not bypassing access controls.

For automated testing of Turnstile on a site you control, Cloudflare recommends using its test keys. Keep test keys and production keys in separate configurations; a production secret rejects dummy tokens made with a testing sitekey.

“Cloudflare challenge” can refer to different mechanisms. Work out which one is active before changing Puppeteer code or your site configuration.

Test a Turnstile integration with Puppeteer
Use Cloudflare’s published testing sitekeys and secret keys for automated testing, rather than trying to make Puppeteer solve a production challenge. Store test credentials separately from production secrets, such as in environment-specific configuration. Consult Cloudflare’s Turnstile getting-started guide for the current test key values and setup details.

- Load your test page. Use Puppeteer to navigate to the page containing the Turnstile widget, with your test sitekey configured.
- Exercise the widget and form. Confirm that your application receives a token and submits it along with the action being protected.
- Verify on the server. Your application must send the token to Cloudflare Siteverify using the corresponding test secret, then allow the protected action only when verification succeeds.
- Test negative and freshness cases. Confirm the application rejects missing, invalid, expired, and previously used tokens; start a fresh widget flow when a test needs a new token.
The key security boundary is server-side verification: a widget completing in the browser is not proof that the protected action should be accepted. Cloudflare’s documentation states that tokens expire after 300 seconds (5 minutes), can be validated only once, and have a maximum length of 2,048 characters. Do not use a dummy testing token with a production secret; Cloudflare says that combination is rejected.
Why does Cloudflare keep showing a challenge?
First determine whether the page is an interstitial Challenge Page, an embedded Turnstile widget, or a background JavaScript Detection signal. Those mechanisms have different causes and handling. - That the browser is current and supported, and JavaScript is enabled.
- Whether extensions or content blockers interfere with the page.
- Whether the network connection is stable.
- Whether a VPN or proxy affects the result.
- Whether the page works in a private window, another browser or device, or on another network.
If those checks do not resolve the issue, capture a HAR file and browser console log for escalation to the site operator. A failed challenge alone does not prove that a visitor is a bot or that the site integration is broken.

Yes, for testing your integration with Cloudflare’s test keys. Do not use automation to solve production challenges.
Can I validate a Turnstile test token with my production secret?
