You can use a YouTube Live event to invite viewers to a clearly explained email signup, but a livestream does not guarantee new subscribers. Build the path from a relevant offer to a direct signup page, make the link usable in the stream format your viewers see, and follow up only as promised and permitted.
1. Give viewers a specific reason to sign up
Connect the invitation to the subject of the stream. Possible offers include notes, a checklist, a related lesson, or a notification when the replay or next event is available. These are examples, not proven conversion tactics. Tell viewers what they will receive and, if known, how often you will email them.

Make clear that watching the stream does not subscribe someone automatically. The viewer should choose to submit the form, and the page should explain what the email address will be used for.

Link to a page with a signup form, rather than sending viewers through a chain of unrelated pages. Keep the address straightforward to read aloud and type, and test it on a phone before the event. The form should identify the sender and explain the purpose of the emails.

Mailchimp documents single opt-in, where a person joins after submitting the form, and double opt-in, where they confirm through a follow-up email. It says its signup forms record the submission date and time, and defines permission as “express, verifiable consent to receive marketing communication.” These are Mailchimp’s service descriptions; verify the platform’s current terms and the legal requirements applicable to your audience. 3. Schedule and promote the event
Plan the stream around the subject and audience most likely to value the signup offer. YouTube recommends sharing the streaming link at least 48 hours before going live. It also suggests using connected social accounts, embedding the URL on a website, and displaying upcoming events in a Live section. See YouTube’s live-stream promotion guidance.

Make the invitation part of the event plan: decide when you will mention the offer, where the link will appear, and what viewers should expect after submitting the form. YouTube’s setup guidance also recommends checking camera framing, audio, lighting, and internet before the broadcast: prepare for a live stream.
4. Put the signup link where viewers can use it
Do not assume that a URL behaves the same way in every YouTube Live format or on every device. YouTube’s current overview says URLs in Live chat and channel descriptions are clickable for horizontal streams. In the mobile app’s vertical live feed, URLs in chat and channel descriptions are non-clickable. Clickable external links require access to advanced features. Check the current rules and test the link in the exact format and surface you plan to use before the event. - Horizontal stream: You can place the signup URL in eligible Live chat or the channel description, subject to YouTube’s current rules.
- Vertical live feed in the mobile app: URLs in Live chat and the channel description are non-clickable. Say the address clearly or direct viewers to a channel surface where the link is usable, and explain the steps without suggesting that the chat URL can be tapped.
- Either format: Say where the link is and what it leads to. Repeating the instruction in speech and in eligible text placement is a practical response to these format differences, not a tactic with a measured signup lift.
5. Follow up responsibly
Send the promised resource or update, identify who is emailing, and provide a straightforward way to unsubscribe. Do not treat attendance, a chat message, or a view as consent to ongoing marketing.
Permission requirements depend on the sender’s circumstances and the recipient’s jurisdiction. In the UK, the ICO says electronic-mail marketing generally requires specific consent unless a defined soft opt-in applies, and people must have a simple way to opt out. In the US, the FTC explains that CAN-SPAM generally does not require prior consent, but senders must provide an opt-out and honor opt-outs promptly. 6. Keep the invitation on the replay
A replay can continue sending viewers to the signup page after the live event. YouTube says public archives can increase reach for future streams and recommends organizing archives and highlights into playlists. Put the invitation in the replay description where links are permitted and usable, and make sure it still accurately describes the offer. YouTube’s promotion guidance covers archives and playlists as well as pre-event promotion.

YouTube reported that an average of more than 600 million logged-in viewers watched live content, including archives, each day in August 2026. That is a company-reported platform-wide figure, not an estimate of how many people will watch your stream or join your list. No conversion rate or expected signup count for an individual creator’s live event is established here.

Use a consistent signup page or event-specific tracking so you can compare visits with completed form submissions for your own broadcasts. That will show whether viewers reach the page and finish signing up, without treating broad YouTube audience figures as a forecast.
