You can make the request specific—such as “Alexa, what is the weather today in New York?”—by naming a city, region or country.
Ask Alexa for today’s weather
On a hands-free Echo, say the wake word (usually “Alexa”), wait for the light or sound that shows it is listening, and ask your question.
- Current forecast: “Alexa, what’s the weather today?”
- Specific place: “Alexa, what’s the weather today in New York?”
- Temperature: “Alexa, what will the high temperature be in Seattle today?”
- Rain or storms: Ask whether it will rain or whether storms are expected.
- Another date or period: Include the day or duration you want, such as tomorrow or this weekend.
Location, date, duration, temperature and weather-condition requests are supported forecast details. Naming the place is especially useful when traveling or when the Echo’s saved address is incorrect.
Change the weather location in the Alexa app
Alexa uses each Echo’s device location for weather and other local features. Correct the individual Echo that is reporting the wrong city; devices in the same household can have different locations.

- Open the Alexa app and select Devices.
- Select Echo & Alexa, then choose the affected Echo.
- Select Device Settings.
- Select Device Location.
- Enter the complete address and select Save.
Ask for the weather again after saving. If Alexa still interprets the location incorrectly, include the city and state, province or region in the spoken request.
Update an Echo Show after moving
On an Echo with a screen, say “Go to Settings” or open Settings on the display.

- Select Device Options.
- Select About This Device.
- Enter the complete address and save it.
The device location affects weather, time, traffic and other local features. If you moved to a different time zone, also verify the time-zone setting under Device Options.
Built-in Alexa weather versus The Weather Channel skill
The built-in forecast is the quickest option and needs no separate invocation. The optional The Weather Channel skill can provide more information, but availability and features vary by country, language and device.

When Alexa gives the wrong city or an unhelpful answer
The saved address is wrong
Change Devices → Echo & Alexa → [your Echo] → Device Settings → Device Location in the Alexa app, then save the complete address.

You are asking from a different place
Give the city, state or region in the question instead of relying on the Echo’s default location: “Alexa, what’s the weather today in Boston, Massachusetts?”
The place name is ambiguous
Use a fuller location, including the state, province, country or region. This helps Alexa distinguish cities with the same name.

An Echo Show still shows old local information
Update the address from the Echo Show’s Settings → Device Options → About This Device path and check the time zone if you moved across time zones.
A menu or feature is missing
Alexa labels and supported features can differ by software version, device model, language and country. Look for the closest current label in the Alexa app or check the local listing for any optional skill.

The Echo may have an incorrect device location or may be resolving an ambiguous place name. Correct the address in the Alexa app and include the city and region in your request.
