To get the MLB app on an LG Smart TV, search for it in the LG Content Store on your TV. Whether it appears depends on your exact TV model and country, and the app also has to meet the TV’s webOS version requirement. If the MLB app is missing and you live in the United States, the ESPN app is the other route to MLB.TV on LG, because MLB says US viewers can stream MLB.TV in the ESPN app for the 2026 season. Viewers outside the US continue to use the MLB app.
Check whether the MLB app is available for your TV
- Open the LG Content Store from the TV’s home screen.
- Search for “MLB.”
- If a listing appears, open it and read the required webOS version. Compare that with your TV’s version, which is shown in the software or “About This TV” information in the TV’s settings.
- If no listing appears, or your TV’s webOS version is older than the listing requires, use LG’s app lookup. Enter your country and the exact TV model name, then check the result for that combination.
A missing listing does not mean the TV is faulty. LG notes that the apps offered vary by country and TV model, so two LG sets from the same year can have different catalogs. MLB’s LG help center includes a supported-devices section, but the sources reviewed for this guide did not confirm a model-year cutoff. The store listing for your exact model is the reliable answer.

Option one: the ESPN app (US market only)
MLB’s 2026 MLB.TV page says US viewers can watch through the ESPN app. ESPN’s supported-device article lists LG as a device that can view MLB.TV in the ESPN app. Purchasing inside the app is not available on every device. Where it is unsupported, ESPN directs you to buy on its website.

You do not need to buy again. Link your MLB account to your ESPN account so that access works in both apps.

Option two: an external streaming device
If your LG TV has neither the MLB app nor a usable ESPN app, Roku is a device category on ESPN’s supported list for the MLB.TV route. That listing covers Roku as a category, not every Roku model. Before you buy, confirm that the specific player you’re considering can install the ESPN app. Use the TV-based options above first, since they need no new hardware.

| Route | Who it fits | What to confirm | Content and access notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| MLB app on LG | Viewers in a country where the TV’s catalog lists the app | Exact model, country, and webOS version in the LG Content Store | MLB Network is available in the MLB app only. Blackout treatment for this route is not stated in the sources reviewed. |
| ESPN app on LG | US-market viewers whose LG model is on ESPN’s supported list | ESPN app is available for the model; MLB.TV access via ESPN; account linking if you already subscribe | MLB Network is not part of this route. Game availability is subject to blackout restrictions. |
| Roku or similar external player | US-market viewers whose LG TV lacks a usable app | The exact player model can install the ESPN app | Same content and blackout terms as the ESPN route. Pricing and device support are not stated for each model. |
| International viewers | Viewers outside the US | The MLB app is available on the TV | Subscribe and stream through MLB directly. ESPN is not an alternative outside the US. |
Blackouts and subscription prices
MLB.TV through ESPN is a US-market service, and game availability remains subject to MLB blackout restrictions. When MLB’s page was checked for this guide, it listed a 2026 season plan at $149.99 and a monthly plan at $29.99 per month. Plans change from season to season, so confirm current prices on MLB’s site before subscribing.
Troubleshooting
- No MLB app in the store: Confirm your country and exact model through LG’s app lookup, then check the webOS version on the listing.
- ESPN app is installed but MLB.TV does not appear: Confirm you are in the US market and, if you already subscribe, that your MLB and ESPN accounts are linked.
- MLB Network is missing on the ESPN route: This is expected. MLB Network is offered in the MLB app only, so use the MLB app route on a supported TV.
- You are outside the US: Use the MLB app and subscribe through MLB. The ESPN route does not apply.
If none of these routes works on your TV, a supported external streaming player is the remaining option for US viewers, as described above.
