The official description confirms swinging across areas, but it does not provide a complete list of grapple points or their locations.
- Vary your attack position. The whip’s reach and unusual attack angles can change how you approach an enemy. Experiment with distance and positioning rather than closing in automatically.
- Use exploration as a reason to experiment. If a room or route looks inaccessible, note it and try the whip in nearby areas. Some places require skills Rose acquires later, so an unreachable spot is not necessarily a missed jump or a mistake.
PlayStation Blog’s July 2026 PS5 hands-on report described using R2 for the Arcana Whip grapple in that session, including chaining it into an attack or a traversal swing. That is an observation from one PS5 session, not a confirmed universal binding. As a beginner, separate the question “Can I get across?” from “Can I attack from here?” The published description supports both movement and unusual attack positions, so test the whip in each role when the situation allows. A grapple can change your position, while an attack angle can help you engage without immediately standing beside a threat. The sources do not establish an exact timing window or a universal sequence, so use the game’s prompts and your control settings rather than memorizing an unverified combo.
Choose a simple weapon while you learn combat
Konami’s PlayStation Blog overview describes the sword as easy to use and as having solid attack power. That description does not establish that the sword is the strongest choice in every situation.
The official game site describes seven weapon categories and Relics with offensive and defensive effects, but the available descriptions do not provide a complete weapon roster or establish an optimal build. As you discover equipment, try it and keep what complements your preferred approach. A weapon that feels comfortable to use is more useful at the start than chasing an unverified “best” setup.
When comparing a newly found weapon with one you already know, consider whether its attack style feels manageable while you are also watching enemy movement. The official overview gives the sword an accessible baseline; it does not say every other category is harder or weaker. You can treat early equipment as a chance to learn what suits you, not as a permanent commitment to one build. Relics are a separate part of that decision: their stated offensive and defensive effects give you a reason to inspect what each one offers rather than choosing only by name.
Watch enemies and control the pace of a fight
In a July 17, 2026, PS5 hands-on report, PlayStation Blog contributor Corey Brotherson wrote that hasty mistakes were punished, and highlighted learning enemy patterns, making use of dodge invincibility frames and mastering attacks. Treat that as an attributed observation from the published session, rather than a guarantee that every enemy or difficulty setting behaves identically.
The report called slow zombies easy to handle one at a time but troublesome in groups. That is a practical reason to avoid charging into a cluster: pay attention to how enemies approach, create room to react, and deal with threats deliberately. If an attack catches you, observe its timing before trying the same approach again.
In the same PS5 session, Circle was used to dodge and slide; double-tapping it triggered a backward flip. These bindings are platform- and session-specific, not a full control map. Confirm your own controls before relying on them. The useful lesson is the function: learn which movement option gives you space, which helps you evade, and how it fits into your attacks.

Spend mana with a purpose
The hands-on report observed mana being recovered by defeating enemies and spent on spells and healing. In that session, Triangle cast spells and L1 healed. Because both abilities and healing drew on the resource, using every available ability immediately could leave less mana for recovery when you need it.
Use spells when they help solve the encounter in front of you, and keep the healing cost in mind when deciding whether to spend mana. The report does not establish that these exact bindings or resource details cover every platform, final version setting or future patch. Check the in-game controls and resource indicators for the version you are playing.
Mana management is a choice between using a resource now and preserving some for a later need, based on the behavior observed in that PS5 session. You do not need to avoid spells entirely; instead, pay attention to the resource indicator and consider whether an ability is useful in the current encounter. Defeating enemies was reported to restore mana, but the report does not give a recovery amount or establish that every enemy restores the same amount. Search side routes, suspicious surfaces and breakable walls
Konami describes secrets, puzzles, traps, hidden rooms and breakable walls as part of exploration. PlayStation Blog’s overview says some breakable walls can reveal meat that restores health. That makes careful inspection worthwhile: check side paths and surfaces that look out of place instead of assuming the obvious route is the only route.
- Look around a room before leaving, particularly when a side passage or suspicious wall is visible.
- Try the whip where a hidden room or alternate route seems plausible; Konami specifically says it can reveal hidden rooms.
- Keep an eye out for traps as well as rewards. Exploration is not risk-free, and the available information does not identify exact secret locations.
Do not treat every solid-looking wall as breakable or expect a reward in a particular spot. The published descriptions confirm that breakable walls and health-restoring meat exist, but do not provide a complete map or a reliable location list.
Exploration is best done with attention rather than exhaustive checking of every surface. If the main route is clear, take a moment to inspect the room for a side path, a suspicious section of wall, or a place where the whip may be useful. If an area contains a trap, a detour may carry risk as well as a possible reward. The source material confirms these kinds of secrets and hazards exist, but not how often they appear or how to identify each one, so avoid assuming that every visual irregularity hides an item.
Revisit obstacles when Rose gains new abilities
Brotherson’s hands-on report describes a large map with visible areas that Rose could not reach until she obtained a relevant skill. It also says defeated bosses became Arcana that unlocked spells, skills and special actions, and mentions tasks that could improve Arcana. The useful progression habit is to remember blocked routes and return to them when a new ability changes what Rose can do.

A locked-looking route does not prove you have missed a secret or failed a movement challenge. Make a mental note of the obstacle, continue along an available path, and test the new skill against it later. The same session did not include a double jump. The reporter noted level-design clues suggesting one might appear later, but that was speculation, not confirmation. Do not plan a route around a double jump unless the game itself confirms that Rose has gained one.
The Arcana detail gives you another reason to notice progression rewards: a boss victory may do more than clear the immediate encounter, because the report describes bosses becoming Arcana associated with new spells, skills and special actions. It also mentions tasks that can improve Arcana, without listing those tasks or their effects. Read the game’s own descriptions when a new reward appears, then try its new capability on a route you previously could not reach.
