Start from Netflix’s official account or password-reset pages—not a link in a suspicious message—then review recent device access and contact Netflix if you cannot recover the account or the activity continues.
1. Change or reset your Netflix password
If you can still sign in, go to Netflix’s password change instructions and update your password. If you cannot sign in, use Netflix’s official password reset flow; the available options can depend on your account and region.

Netflix’s published guidance says a password should be at least eight characters, combine uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols, and avoid easily guessed personal information. Most importantly, choose one you have not used for another site or app. A password manager can help you keep unique passwords, as Netflix notes in its account-security guidance.
When changing or resetting the password, leave the option to sign out all devices selected if you want a broad reset. This ends other sessions, but you will need to sign in again on the TVs, phones, browsers, and other devices you still use.

2. Sign out unfamiliar devices
If you prefer to remove selected sessions, open Netflix’s Manage Access & Devices page and sign out devices you do not recognize. This is more selective than signing out everywhere, but the list is not a complete, real-time record of every device that has ever accessed the account.
Netflix says devices can take up to 48 hours to appear. The list excludes devices that have been inactive for more than 90 days and some devices used only for games or Tudum; device details may also be incomplete. Netflix’s Windows app, for example, can appear as an Edge browser. If an unknown device is missing, use the all-device sign-out option when changing the password rather than treating the list as definitive.

3. Check account details and sign-in alerts
Review account and profile details for changes you did not make. If a new-sign-in alert may involve someone in your household, check whether an unfamiliar email address has been added to a profile. Netflix says unknown profile email addresses can be removed through Manage Profiles; users signed in with those addresses are signed out within 24 hours. See Netflix’s guidance on new sign-in emails.

A location in a sign-in notice is estimated from the device’s IP address, so it may not precisely match the person’s location. A location discrepancy by itself does not prove that someone has taken over your account.

4. If you are still locked out or see suspicious activity
If you cannot reset the password, or unauthorized activity continues after you have changed it and signed out devices, contact Netflix support. Also contact Netflix about charges you do not recognize or other unauthorized account activity.
Secure the email account used for Netflix recovery, especially if it shared the same password. Reusing an email-and-password combination can put other accounts at risk if one service is compromised. Change reused passwords on those accounts too, using a different password for each.

5. Avoid phishing and consider device security
Do not enter your Netflix password through a link in an unexpected email or text. Netflix says it will not ask by email or text for your password, card number, or bank details, and will not ask you to pay through a third-party vendor or website. If a message seems suspicious, go to Netflix directly and check your account there.

Changing your Netflix password does not secure a compromised email account or remove malware from a device. Netflix notes that sluggish performance, pop-ups during streaming, or unexpected crashes and freezes can be signs of malware. If those symptoms occur, follow your computer manufacturer’s guidance or consult a trusted IT professional; Netflix does not endorse specific anti-malware software.
