Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesTo get notified when a web page changes, use a no-code page-monitoring service. You enter the page address, choose whether to watch the whole page or one section of it, set how often it checks, and pick where the alert should go. No code is involved. Visualping and Distill both follow this approach. The decision that matters most is whether checks run on your own computer or on the vendor’s servers, and that choice shapes everything else.
What you need before you start
- The direct address of the page you want to watch. Copy it from the address bar after any redirects, so the monitor loads the same page you see.
- An account with a monitoring service, or the service’s browser extension. Visualping and Distill both offer browser extensions, and both also run through their web apps.
- An email address for alerts. Email is included in both services’ documented plans, so it is the safest channel to test first.
Set up a monitor step by step
The exact screens differ between products, but the sequence is the same across the tools reviewed for this guide. The steps below follow Distill’s documented browser-extension workflow, with notes where other services differ.

- Open the page you want to watch in your browser.
- Launch the monitoring service’s extension, or add the copied URL in its web app.
- Choose what to watch. In Distill’s extension, the options are labeled Monitor full page or Monitor parts of page. For a section, select the element visually, such as a price, a stock label, or a paragraph of text.
- Review the highlighted selection. Confirm it covers the value you care about and nothing that changes on its own, such as a rotating banner or a timestamp.
- Choose the device for a local monitor, or the cloud option for a monitor that should run without your computer. Then set the check schedule.
- Add a condition or keyword filter if the service offers one, so that only relevant changes trigger an alert.
- Add an alert action, such as email, and save the monitor.
- When an alert arrives, open the before-and-after comparison before you act on it. The comparison shows whether the change is the one you expected.
Watch one part of the page instead of the whole thing
Whole-page monitoring is simple to set up, but it produces noise. Pages change constantly in areas you do not care about, including advertisements, navigation menus, and footers, so a full-page monitor may alert you several times a day for nothing. Selecting the element that matters, such as a price or an availability label, keeps alerts tied to the change you actually want to know about.

The trade-off is maintenance. If the site redesigns the page or moves the element, a selection can stop matching what you intended. When an expected alert never arrives, reopen the monitor and check that the selected element still exists on the page.

Local checks or cloud checks
Both services offer two ways to run a monitor, and the difference determines whether alerts keep coming when your computer is off.
| Factor | Local check | Cloud check |
|---|---|---|
| Where the check runs | On your computer, through the browser extension or app | On the vendor’s server |
| Requirement on your side | The device and browser or app must be available. Visualping says local checks need the browser open. Distill says its extension cannot check pages while the device is off. | None beyond your account. Visualping’s Chrome extension documentation states that cloud monitors “keep checking even after you close your laptop or shut down your computer.” |
| Best suited to | Pages you only need during the hours you are working at one machine | Alerts that must arrive overnight, while travelling, or when no single device stays on |
| Free-tier allowance (Distill) | 25 local monitors | 5 cloud monitors |
Local checks cost nothing extra in monitor slots on most plans, but they are only as reliable as the device running them. If you need guaranteed coverage, use cloud checks for the pages that matter most and reserve local checks for convenience monitoring.

How the two services compare
The table below uses the vendor documentation available when we checked it on October 7, 2026. Plan limits and feature lists change, so confirm them on the vendor’s pricing or feature page before you subscribe. Where a vendor did not state a value in that documentation, the cell says so.
| Question | Visualping | Distill |
|---|---|---|
| Can you watch one element or section? | Yes. Full-page and element monitoring are both documented. | Yes. Visual selection of the full page or parts of a page is documented. |
| Local, cloud, or both? | Both | Both |
| How often can it check? | Schedules are configurable. Frequencies by plan are not stated in the documentation reviewed. | The free tier sends alerts every six hours (Distill feature page, checked October 7, 2026). Frequencies on paid plans are not stated. |
| Alert channels | Email, webhook, and Zapier on all plans. Text message, Slack, Microsoft Teams, and Google Sheets are listed for paid plans. | Email alerts, with 30 included on the free tier (Distill feature page, checked October 7, 2026). The period for that allowance is not stated. Other channels are not stated. |
| Noise control | Not stated in the documentation reviewed | Condition-based alert filtering |
| Monitor and check limits | Not stated in the documentation reviewed | Free tier: 25 local monitors, 5 cloud monitors, and 1,000 checks per month (Distill feature page, checked October 7, 2026) |
Distill’s free-tier limits are the most specific published figures among these tools, and they are vendor-stated. Treat them as the terms at the time of checking, not as a permanent guarantee.

Reduce noise so alerts stay useful
An alert you ignore is as useless as no alert. Use three controls to keep the signal high:
- Element selection. Watch the specific value rather than the page around it.
- Conditions and keywords. Where the service supports them, alert only when specific text appears or disappears.
- Sensible frequency. Check as often as you would act on the change. A check every few minutes is rarely needed for a job posting, and on capped plans frequent checks consume your monthly allowance faster. Distill’s free tier caps checks at 1,000 per month, so a monitor set to check very often can exhaust that quota quickly.
When alerts fail or mislead
A monitor detects that something on the page changed. It does not guarantee that every change is meaningful, and it cannot promise that every site will load reliably each time it checks. Keep these failure points in mind:

- The device is off. A local check does nothing while the computer or browser is closed. Switch the monitor to cloud checks.
- The selection breaks. A site redesign can move or rename the element you selected. Reopen the monitor after a layout change.
- The page does not load for the monitor. Some sites block automated visits or require a login, which a monitor may not be able to pass. Check the monitor’s status history if available, and load the page manually to confirm it is still public.
- The alert is filtered or lost. Check your spam folder, and confirm that the alert address is correct.
- The monitor has reached its limit. On capped plans, new monitors or checks can stop once the allowance is used up.
These checks are general practical guidance rather than vendor performance claims. They are worth repeating each time you add an important monitor.
Choosing the right setup
- If you need a quick, free watch on one or two pages during your working day, a local monitor on a free tier is enough.
- If the alert must arrive while your computer is off, use a cloud monitor and confirm your plan’s cloud monitor allowance.
- If your alerts go into a team tool such as Slack or Microsoft Teams, confirm that your plan includes that channel before you build the workflow around it. Visualping lists these channels for paid plans.
- If you are watching many pages, the monitor count and check limits will decide the plan you need, so compare those figures first.
The process above works for price drops, job listings, government notices, and competitor pages. The only difference between these uses is which element you select and how often you check it.
