To increase storage for a personal Google Account, go to one.google.com, sign in to the account you want to upgrade, select Upgrade, choose an available plan, and confirm the price and payment date at checkout. Google One adds capacity to the storage shared by Google Drive, Gmail, and Google Photos; Google says an upgrade can take up to 24 hours to appear.
Check what is using your storage first
A personal Google Account includes up to 15 GB at no charge, shared across Drive, Gmail, and Photos. Android WhatsApp backups can also count toward the quota. See Google’s buying-storage instructions and storage-management guide.

- In Gmail, search
has:attachment larger:10Mto find messages with attachments larger than 10 MB. Delete only messages you no longer need. - In Drive, review files by size and remove unnecessary large items.
- Review Google Photos and backups, including WhatsApp backups if applicable. Deleting a WhatsApp backup is permanent; change WhatsApp backup settings first if you do not want another backup to be created at the next device backup.
- Empty the relevant trash folders. Deleted items can continue to count against storage until trash is emptied.
Google says storage should update after a short period. If it still appears full after 30 minutes, follow the further cleanup guidance in its storage-management guide.

Choose a Google One plan
Google One is Google’s paid consumer option for adding shared account storage. Google lists plans from 30 GB in selected countries, then 100 GB, 200 GB, 2 TB, 5 TB, 10 TB, 20 TB, and 30 TB on its plan options page. Availability varies by country and account; the 30 GB Lite plan is offered only in selected regions, while 5 TB and larger tiers are listed as upgrades for existing members. Confirm the options shown in your account rather than assuming a tier is available to you.
There is no single price that applies everywhere. Before subscribing, review the checkout price for your country, the billing interval, taxes if shown, renewal terms, and the next payment date. Google’s buying-storage page notes that prices changed in some markets, including Algeria, Egypt, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Turkey on July 27, 2026, and other markets on February 18, 2025.

Upgrade on the web
- Sign in to the personal Google Account whose quota you want to increase.
- Visit one.google.com and select Upgrade.
- Choose one of the plans available to that account and region.
- Review the displayed price, billing details, and payment date, then confirm the subscription.
Google’s computer instructions are available in its buying-storage help. If the upgrade does not appear after payment, check that payment completed and that you upgraded the correct Google Account. Google says the new quota can take up to 24 hours to become available.

The steps and billing route depend on your device and how you want to pay. Google provides separate instructions for Android and iPhone and iPad. Android users can upgrade through Google One or Drive. On iPhone and iPad, Google One or the Google Drive or Gmail apps may offer an upgrade flow where available.

If you subscribed through Google Play, Apple’s App Store, a mobile carrier, or another billing provider, you may need to manage the subscription through that provider rather than on the web. Check the account’s subscription or billing details before trying to change or cancel a plan.
Share storage with family
If someone in your household already has a suitable Google One plan, the plan manager can share it with up to five family members. The group shares the plan’s storage capacity, but members cannot see one another’s files unless those files are shared directly. Family members must live in the same country. The 30 GB Lite plan does not support family sharing. See Google’s family-sharing instructions and plan options.

What happens when storage is full?
When the account reaches its storage limit, you may be unable to upload or create files in Drive, send or receive Gmail messages, or back up photos and videos to Google Photos. Those services use the same account quota, so deleting content in one place or adding capacity affects the shared limit rather than creating a separate allowance for each app.
Work or school accounts are different
The consumer Google One upgrade route is for personal Google Accounts. If you use a work or school account and cannot buy more storage yourself, contact its administrator; account storage and purchasing options may be managed by the organization.
