1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsYou can customize some app-opening animations on a Galaxy Z Fold with Samsung’s Good Lock Home Up module. That is different from making an animation follow the phone’s physical hinge as you open or close it: Samsung’s built-in Full screen apps setting helps with app continuity, while hinge-following effects are available only through an unofficial experimental project documented for newer Fold models.
First, choose the effect you mean
- App launch and exit effects: animations shown as apps open or close. Home Up is Samsung’s customization option to investigate; available controls depend on your device and One UI version.
- A hinge-following transition: an effect that tracks the device as it folds and unfolds across the cover and main displays. ZFoldDuo is an unofficial experimental project, not a standard Samsung setting.
- App continuity: keeping an app usable as you move between the cover and main displays. Samsung’s Full screen apps option can help with this, but does not add a hinge animation.
How do I change app-opening and closing animations on a Galaxy Z Fold?
Check Good Lock and its Home Up module first. Samsung describes Home Up as a way to customize One UI Home, including Home screen and gesture-animation features. Android Central also reported app launch animation controls in One UI 8 coverage. Neither source establishes that every Fold has the same menu or an exact iPhone animation, so use the options available on your own software build rather than expecting a specific transition.

- Open the Galaxy Store and install or open Good Lock, if it is available for your device and software version.
- In Good Lock, check whether Home Up is offered and open it.
- Look in the Home Up home-screen or animation-customization area for the controls present on your version. Labels and options may vary; Samsung says module availability can differ by device and software version.
Samsung’s overview of Good Lock and its modules explains the customization options and availability caveat. The reported One UI 8 launch-animation controls are described by Android Central. These options let you customize supported app or Home animations; they should not be treated as a system-wide effect that tracks the hinge.
Can I make the animation follow the hinge when I open my Fold?
Not with Samsung’s Full screen apps setting or an ordinary Good Lock toggle. A project called ZFoldDuo describes an iPhone Duo-inspired effect that follows hinge angle and spans the cover and inner displays. Its repository lists Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Fold8 running Android 16 or later; older Fold models are explicitly untested.

This is an unofficial technical project, not a Samsung-supported feature. Its author says it relies on private Samsung interfaces that can change, and describes it as “not currently stable or ready for everyday use.” Treat that as the project’s own warning, not an independent assessment. It may be unsuitable if you need dependable everyday behavior or do not want to install an unofficial APK and grant the required access.

- Select the app you want to adjust.
- Select Full screen.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Which option makes sense for your Fold?
| Your goal | Option to try | Important limit |
|---|---|---|
| Customize supported app or Home launch effects | Good Lock Home Up | Controls vary by device and One UI version; an exact iPhone effect is not guaranteed. |
| Keep an app usable between cover and main displays | Settings > Display > Full screen apps | Some apps may not fully support continuity; this is not a hinge animation. |
| Animate across both displays in response to the hinge | ZFoldDuo, if you have a listed compatible model and accept the risks | Project-listed support is Fold7/Fold8 on Android 16 or later; older models are untested, and the project is experimental. |
