If Manage Google Play preferences is missing, Google says that Chromebook does not support Android apps. A supported device still may not have Play Store access enabled by the school. Some Android apps also are not compatible with every Chromebook. Google’s Chromebook instructions explain how to check and set up Android app support.

- With broad game support, the Logitech Gamepad F310 works with old standbys to today's biggest titles, so it's easy to set up and use with your favorite games.
- Profiler software allows the gamepad to be programmed to perform keyboard and mouse commands for games without gamepad support.* * Requires software installation.
- A familiar control layout that doesn't require a learning curve to be able to use, with all the same buttons as on an Xbox 360.
- The unique floating D-pad rests on four switches-instead of a single pivot point-making it responsive to quick changes in direction.
- The six-foot cord lets you lean back and play a comfortable distance from your PC monitor.
Install a game if the school permits it
After Play Store setup, open Google Play, search for the game, and select Install. Install only games permitted by your school and available to you in its managed Play Store. Administrators can choose which Android apps students may install, automatically install selected apps, or block app installations. Google notes that students in managed environments may see only apps their administrator approves. Google’s app-management guidance for administrators describes these controls.
If the Play Store or Install button is unavailable
Ask your teacher or school administrator whether the game is approved and whether Play Store access is enabled for your device or account. The school can also restrict websites. A missing option or blocked install is not something you can necessarily change in your Chromebook settings; the administrator controls managed-device policies. Google advises families to contact the school or teacher about unavailable services on a school-managed Chromebook. Google’s guidance on school-managed Chromebooks explains that schools may restrict websites and apps.

Ways to play that do not install a game
| Option | What happens | What can prevent access |
|---|---|---|
| Browser game | The game runs on a website; an Android app download may not be needed. | School website filters and the game’s compatibility with the Chromebook. |
| Cloud gaming | A service streams the game over the internet rather than installing the full game on the Chromebook. | Internet access, service and game eligibility, input needs, and school filtering. |
| Linux software or games | Runs in ChromeOS’s Linux development environment. | Linux may be unavailable on school devices, and game compatibility varies. |
Browser games
A browser game may be an option if the school allows the site, but playing in a browser does not bypass school web filters. Google’s administrator guidance recommends considering a web app when a service offers both web and Android versions; that is deployment guidance, not approval of any particular gaming site. Google’s guidance for choosing apps in school deployments discusses web and Android app options.
Cloud gaming
Google lists services such as NVIDIA GeForce NOW, Xbox Cloud Gaming, Amazon Luna, and Boosteroid among Chromebook gaming options. Streaming is different from downloading: the game runs through an internet service, so it is not installed for offline play. Access depends on the service’s current requirements and the game’s eligibility, and a school filter may block the service. Check the service’s official requirements before relying on it. NVIDIA lists Chromebook browser support for GeForce NOW and recommends a USB gaming mouse; a mouse is an optional input device, not a way to unlock a blocked service. NVIDIA’s GeForce NOW system requirements provide its current device and input guidance. Google’s Chromebook gaming overview describes Android, browser, and cloud gaming routes.

Linux
Linux on Chromebook is a developer environment intended for command-line tools and development software. It is off by default and may not be available on work or school Chromebooks. It is not the normal route for installing games on a managed school device or a way around school restrictions. Google’s Linux setup guidance covers its purpose and availability.
