To get ECG on a compatible Samsung Galaxy Watch, pair it with a Samsung Galaxy phone running Android 12 or later, install Samsung Health Monitor on the phone, and complete its setup. ECG availability also depends on your country or region: having a supported watch does not guarantee the feature will work everywhere.
How do I get ECG on my Samsung watch?
Samsung provides ECG through the Samsung Health Monitor app. You need a supported Galaxy Watch, a Samsung Galaxy smartphone running Android 12 or later, and service availability in your region. Samsung’s Samsung Health Monitor information describes the app and its requirements.

Compatible watches and phones
Samsung lists Galaxy Watch Active2, Galaxy Watch3, Galaxy Watch4, and later Galaxy Watch and Active models as compatible; Galaxy Fit is excluded. The instructions for use specify supported Tizen software for Active2 and Watch3, and Wear OS 3.0 or later for Watch4 and newer watches. The phone must be a Samsung Galaxy device running Android 12 or later; a non-Samsung Android phone does not meet Samsung’s stated requirement.

ECG is a regulated medical-device feature, and availability varies by country or region. Samsung advises that both the watch and phone should be purchased in a supported market. A model that supports ECG in hardware may lack access if it was bought in an unsupported market. Check Samsung’s current country and device availability list for your market. Samsung notes that service can also be restricted after a factory reset or app reinstall while traveling in a region where the service is unavailable.

How to activate Samsung Health Monitor ECG

Pair the Galaxy Watch to your Samsung Galaxy phone over Bluetooth.

Open Galaxy Wearable, connect the watch, and install the latest available watch software.

Install Samsung Health Monitor on the phone from the Galaxy Store if it is not already installed.

Open Samsung Health Monitor on the phone. Accept the terms and privacy prompts, create your profile, and follow the ECG setup instructions.

For 30 seconds, lightly touch the watch’s top/Home key with a fingertip from your opposite hand. Keep still and do not talk. Do not press the key; pressing it stops the recording.

When the reading ends, review the result on the watch. If you have symptoms, add them to the report using the available option, then tap Done.
The report syncs over Bluetooth to Samsung Health Monitor on the phone, where you can review a PDF. Keep the phone and watch paired for synchronization.
Why is ECG missing on my Galaxy Watch?
Check the likely causes in this order. Region and purchase-market eligibility matter before hardware troubleshooting: Samsung does not offer a universal workaround for unsupported regions.

Country or purchase region: Confirm that ECG is currently supported where you live and that the watch and phone were purchased in a supported market. Travel, a factory reset, or reinstalling the app in a non-service region can affect access.

Watch model and software: Verify the watch is an eligible Galaxy Watch model—not Galaxy Fit—and that its software is current. Active2 and Watch3 require supported Tizen software; Watch4 and later require Wear OS 3.0 or later.

Phone requirement: Confirm you are using a Samsung Galaxy smartphone with Android 12 or later.

Pairing and apps: Make sure the watch is paired by Bluetooth in Galaxy Wearable, and that Samsung Health Monitor is installed on both the phone and watch.

Incomplete setup: Reopen Samsung Health Monitor on the phone and finish any profile, terms, privacy, or ECG setup prompts.
Samsung’s official guidance does not establish unofficial APKs, VPNs, or device modifications as solutions for a region where ECG service is unavailable.

No—not under Samsung’s stated requirements. ECG requires a Samsung Galaxy smartphone running Android 12 or later, paired with the compatible watch. Bluetooth pairing is also needed to sync the report to the phone.
What Samsung Watch ECG can—and cannot—tell you
Samsung says, “The Samsung Health Monitor ECG app detects ECG signals (similar to a Lead I ECG) with the help of your Galaxy Watch’s ECG sensor and determines whether atrial fibrillation or normal sinus rhythm is present.” The app classifies a recorded signal; it does not diagnose or treat a heart condition.
Samsung says the app is not intended for people under 22 or for people with known arrhythmias other than atrial fibrillation. It also says not to use the app if you have an implanted pacemaker, implanted cardiac defibrillator, or another implanted electronic device. Do not interpret a watch result or make clinical decisions without consulting a qualified healthcare professional. If you have concerning symptoms, seek urgent medical care rather than relying on a watch reading.
