Set up the Arc Ultra and connect it to your TV
-
Open the Sonos app on an iOS or Android device and follow its prompts to add the Arc Ultra to a new or existing Sonos system. Sonos requires app setup before the soundbar can play TV audio. See Sonos’s Arc Ultra setup instructions.

Connect the included HDMI cable from the Arc Ultra to the TV port labeled HDMI ARC or HDMI eARC, then follow the app’s connection prompts. The Atmos TV connection path described by Sonos uses HDMI, not optical.

In the TV’s sound settings, choose an audio output option that passes a supported surround format through HDMI. If you are using a separate streaming box or other source, check its audio output settings too. Setting names vary by TV and source model; consult their manuals if necessary.

Play a film or show that is specifically offered in Dolby Atmos on your streaming service. Atmos availability can depend on the service’s subscription tier, the individual title, and your region.
The soundbar is only one part of the route: Arc Ultra → TV HDMI ARC/eARC → TV audio passthrough → source device or TV app → service, plan, and title with Atmos. Sonos notes that some TVs do not pass Atmos from an external source and may instead re-encode audio as Dolby Digital 5.1. Check the exact TV and source-device models in Sonos’s Dolby Atmos requirements.

ARC or eARC: which connection do you need?
| TV connection | Atmos format it can carry | When it fits |
|---|---|---|
| HDMI ARC | Dolby Digital Plus Atmos | Suitable when your TV and source support Atmos over Dolby Digital Plus. |
| HDMI eARC | Dolby Digital Plus Atmos and lossless Dolby TrueHD Atmos | Needed for lossless TrueHD Atmos from a compatible source. |
Sonos lists Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Atmos (True HD), and related high-bandwidth formats as requiring eARC. Some sources, including Apple TV examples in Sonos’s format guidance, can deliver Atmos using Dolby MAT, so do not infer the received format from the source-device brand alone. Check the app’s format indicator and Sonos’s supported home theater audio formats.

While the Atmos title is playing, check the Sonos app’s Now Playing screen for the Atmos badge. You can also view the TV audio format in the app’s Settings. These indicators show the format being received, which is more useful than relying on a device or service’s general Atmos compatibility.

- The ultimate Dolby Atmos experience: The lateral and overhead channels in Arc Ultra and both Era 300 speakers immerse you an an all-encompassing spatial audio soundstage. You’ll hear planes as if they’re flying above, sense footsteps moving across the room, and feel like you're inside your music.
- Feel the bass: Experience every rumble, roar, and beat you've been missing with clean, pulse-pounding bass. Sub 4 takes over the lowest frequencies so paired speakers are free to focus on midrange and high frequencies so everything sounds even clearer.
- Wonderfully wireless: Place Sub 4 anywhere in the room, even under your sofa. It connects to the soundbar over WiFi, so you can create the setup that works best for your space.
- Perfectly tuned for the room: Using the microphones in your iOS device, Trueplay tuning technology analyzes the unique acoustics of your space and optimizes the EQ. So all your content sounds just the way it should.
- Breeze through setup: Simply plug in the power cable, connect your phone or tablet to WiFi, and open the Sonos app. It will guide you through connecting the soundbar to your TV and syncing your TV remote for streamlined control.
If the app reports Stereo/PCM, Dolby Digital, or Dolby Digital Plus without Atmos, the current signal is not arriving as Atmos. The format display helps narrow down whether the TV or source is sending a different format.
Fix a non-Atmos signal

Check the HDMI port. Make sure the cable is connected to the TV port labeled ARC or eARC, not an ordinary HDMI input.

- Stream music, radio, podcasts, and audiobooks from all your favorite services when the TV is off.

-
Check TV and source passthrough. Confirm the exact TV and source models support Atmos and that the TV passes the format through. Sonos gives Amazon Fire TV Cube as an example of a supported source and notes that older Fire TV generations may not support Atmos; this is not a guarantee for every hardware revision.

Use the app’s format reading. Check the Atmos badge or TV audio format in the Sonos app, then revisit the TV/source settings if the reported format is not Atmos.
Atmos music is a separate setup
Sonos lists Amazon Music, Apple Music, and TIDAL for spatial audio on supported products. For TIDAL Atmos with Arc Ultra, Sonos specifies a compatible TV and supported streaming device. Music playback is distinct from getting Atmos from a TV show or film; see Sonos’s spatial-audio music guidance.
