Search for a job title, keyword, or employer, choose the location and filters that matter, then turn on an alert for that search. Use separate alerts for different roles, locations, or employers so each one tracks a clear set of openings. Choose email, app notifications, or both when the job board offers a choice.
Set up job alerts on LinkedIn, Indeed, and USAJOBS
Alerts follow the criteria in a saved search. A very narrow query may produce few or no messages; broader wording and fewer filters usually make it easier to catch relevant listings. The controls and delivery options differ by platform.

- Search for jobs using the role, location, and filters you want to monitor.
- On the results page, turn on the job-alert control.
- Open Manage alerts to choose daily or weekly delivery and email, LinkedIn notifications, or both.
- To change or remove an alert later, go to Jobs and preferences.
A new LinkedIn alert defaults to daily delivery by both email and LinkedIn notification. LinkedIn allows up to 20 job alerts. For instructions, see LinkedIn’s job-alert help page.
To follow openings at a particular employer, LinkedIn also documents alerts from that company’s LinkedIn Page. See LinkedIn’s company-specific alert instructions.
#1 Best Overall
Indeed
- Sign in or create an Indeed account.
- Search by job title, keyword, or company, and enter a city, state, ZIP code, or “remote.”
- On the first results page, find the alert field near the bottom, enter your email address, and activate the alert.
Indeed describes alerts as email tailored to your preferences and followed companies. Its steps are in Indeed’s job-alert help page. The help material says alerts may not be available for international searches; it also notes that an email is not expected when no new jobs match.
USAJOBS
- Sign in or create a USAJOBS profile.
- Search by job or location and apply the filters that matter.
- Select Turn on job alert, name the alert, choose a frequency, and add it.
- Manage the alert from your profile, where you can pause, edit, archive, delete, or renew it.
USAJOBS offers daily, weekly, monthly, or never email frequency. You can create up to 10 alerts; each stays active for one year unless renewed. See USAJOBS instructions for creating and managing job alerts.
USAJOBS advises using broader keywords or fewer filters when a search returns no jobs. For example, “nurse” is broader than “geriatric nurse.” It also suggests daily alerts for specific or competitive roles because some announcements can close early or after reaching an application limit. That is the agency’s practical guidance, not a measured guarantee of better hiring results. For more search guidance, see USAJOBS tips for searching efficiently.

Separate searches that need different criteria
Create a distinct alert for each meaningfully different role, location, or target employer. Combining incompatible criteria can make an alert less useful—for example, a search that mixes two unrelated job titles or several locations you would treat differently. USAJOBS specifically recommends separate alerts for distinct job types or locations.
Start with the essentials, then add filters selectively
Begin with the role and location, including whether you want remote work where the site supports that search. Add filters only when they materially improve relevance. If you are missing plausible openings, broaden the keywords and remove restrictive filters rather than repeatedly checking the same narrow search.
Use employer alerts where they are documented
If you want openings from a particular company, check whether the platform provides a company-specific alert. LinkedIn documents this option for company Pages. Availability on other services is not established by the help pages cited here.
Compare the alert controls before relying on one service
| Service | Documented delivery and frequency | Alert limit or expiry | Useful distinction |
|---|---|---|---|
| Email, LinkedIn notification, or both; daily or weekly | Up to 20 alerts; expiration not stated in the cited help page | Company-specific alerts are documented for LinkedIn Pages. | |
| Indeed | Email alerts | Limit and expiry not stated in the cited help page | An alert may be unavailable for international searches; no email is expected if there are no new matches. |
| USAJOBS | Email; daily, weekly, monthly, or never | Up to 10 alerts; each remains active for one year unless renewed | Offers pause, edit, archive, delete, and renew controls from the profile. |
These help pages describe features, not comparative hiring outcomes. They do not establish that a particular schedule improves the chance of getting hired.

- Check the alert status. Confirm it is active, not paused or archived. USAJOBS lists these management states in its alert instructions.
- Verify the account email and notification settings. Make sure the address on file is correct and that the relevant email or app notifications are enabled.
- Look in spam or junk. Alert messages can be filtered away from the inbox.
- Broaden the search. Try a wider job title or keyword and remove filters that may exclude suitable listings.
- Allow for no new matches. Indeed says it does not send an alert email when no new jobs match the saved search.
- Check regional availability. Indeed notes that alerts may not be available for international searches; consult its alert help page.
- Renew expired USAJOBS alerts. A USAJOBS alert remains active for one year unless renewed.
Know the difference between a new-job alert and a closing reminder
A new-posting alert watches for jobs that match a search. On USAJOBS, saving an individual announcement can also trigger a different email reminder: it may notify you when that saved announcement is scheduled to close in three calendar days. That is a deadline reminder, not an alert for new postings. Details are in USAJOBS guidance on saving a job announcement.

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server, not a job-alert service; it can capture a page if you need a visual record of a posting. For example, this cURL request captures a page as an image:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://www.usajobs.gov/ -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for API options. It removes cookie banners, popups, and chat widgets before a shot; bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are never billed. Its MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. Will I get an email every time a job is posted?
No. Alerts depend on whether new listings match your saved criteria and on the platform’s delivery rules; Indeed specifically says there may be no email when there are no new matches.
Can I get alerts for a specific employer?
LinkedIn documents job alerts for a specific company through its LinkedIn Page. The cited help pages do not establish that this feature is available on every job board.
