To get a Thai IP address, connect to a VPN server in Thailand using the provider’s app. Choose Thailand—or Bangkok if it appears as a separate location—and connect. While the VPN is active, covered internet traffic is routed through that server, so websites see a public IP associated with Thailand. A Thai IP does not guarantee that a particular site or streaming service will allow access.
What you need to connect through Thailand
- A VPN subscription or account with a provider that currently lists a Thailand server.
- The provider’s official app for your phone, tablet, or computer, or a router that supports VPN client mode.
- Your provider’s sign-in details and an internet connection.
Server locations can change, so check the provider’s current app or server list before subscribing. Proton VPN documents a Thailand location and connection instructions at its Thailand server page. ExpressVPN lists a Thailand location, including Bangkok, and explains how to connect at its Thailand VPN page. Connect from a phone, tablet, or computer
- Check availability. Confirm that the VPN provider currently offers Thailand in its server list and has an app for your device and operating system.
- Install the official app and sign in. Review the provider’s privacy policy and connection features before using the service.
- Select Thailand and connect. If the app lists Bangkok separately, select it when you specifically want that location. Proton VPN’s instructions describe selecting Thailand or using Quick Connect beside Thailand; ExpressVPN describes selecting its Thailand location and connecting. App layouts and labels can change.
- Check the result if location matters. Use a reputable public-IP lookup service to see whether the connected IP is identified as being in Thailand. If it is not, try another Thailand server if available, reconnect, or ask the VPN provider for help. An IP lookup is a practical check, not a guarantee that every service will interpret your location the same way.
App availability varies by provider. Proton VPN lists apps for Windows, Mac, Linux, Chromebook, Android, iPhone, and Android TV. ExpressVPN lists Android, iOS, Windows, macOS, and support for many major smart TVs. Confirm current support for your specific device on the provider’s site: Proton VPN and ExpressVPN.

A router with VPN client support can connect to a third-party VPN server and route devices on the network through that connection. This can be useful when you want several devices to use the same VPN connection, including devices that do not offer a VPN app.

Do not assume that a router can act as a VPN client just because it supports a VPN server function. These are different uses: a VPN server lets you connect back to a network, while a VPN client connects the router to an external VPN service. Support and setup depend on the exact router model and on the VPN provider’s configuration options. TP-Link’s router VPN setup guidance, updated May 7, 2026, distinguishes these scenarios and covers supported-router client configurations. Check both the router’s model-specific documentation and the VPN provider’s instructions before relying on this setup; you will still need a separate VPN service.

- Current server locations: Look for Thailand in the provider’s current server list and confirm whether it specifies Bangkok.
- Device support: Check that the provider has an app for your operating system, or confirm that your router can use its connection method.

- Practical terms: Check customer support, simultaneous-device limits, and refund terms before signing up.
Provider statements about speed, privacy, or streaming access are not independent comparative test results. The cited pages establish that these providers describe Thailand or Bangkok locations and connection instructions; they do not establish which provider is fastest or best for every user.
What a Thai IP can—and cannot—do
A VPN changes the network route and the public IP presented by the VPN connection. It does not make your device invulnerable, remove account-based location signals, or compel a website to grant access. Services may use additional checks, including account details, and may block or treat VPN connections differently. A Thai IP therefore cannot guarantee access to a bank, streaming catalogue, or other location-restricted service.
