To get a Singapore IP address while abroad, connect to a VPN server located in Singapore. Websites will generally see the VPN server’s public IP instead of the public IP assigned to your current connection. You can verify the apparent IP with an IP-checking service, but location databases and individual websites may report or treat it differently.
How a Singapore VPN connection works
A VPN creates an encrypted connection, or tunnel, between your device and a VPN provider’s server. When you select a Singapore endpoint, your internet traffic exits through that server, so websites generally see its public IP as the connection source. Singapore GovTech explains the server-selection and IP-masking process in its VPN guidance.

This changes the apparent source IP; it does not move your device or make you anonymous. The VPN provider becomes an intermediary, so its privacy practices and security matter.
Get and verify a Singapore IP with a VPN
- Choose a provider that lists Singapore. Confirm that Singapore is currently selectable in the provider’s app. Server availability can change. For example, Windscribe advertises Singapore servers; that is the provider’s own claim, not independent validation of performance or server location type.
- Download the app from an official source. Use the provider’s official website or an official app store. Singapore’s Cyber Security Agency (CSA) advises choosing reputable providers and avoiding unofficial downloads in its VPN safety guidance.
- Select Singapore and connect. Open the app, choose Singapore from its location list, and start the connection. Wait for the app to indicate that the VPN is active. The exact labels differ by provider.
- Check your public IP and reported location. Visit a reputable IP-checking service while connected. Confirm that the displayed IP is not your ordinary connection’s IP and that its geolocation is reported as Singapore. Geolocation databases can disagree, and a successful check cannot guarantee that every website will recognize the connection as Singaporean.
- Keep the VPN connected while you need that route. If you disconnect, your device returns to its ordinary internet connection. GovTech also describes checking that the VPN connection remains active.

There is no supported basis here for ranking VPNs or naming one as the fastest or best. Compare providers against your own requirements, and verify their current documentation before signing up.

- Singapore endpoint: Check that Singapore is currently available in the app. If the provider distinguishes physical from virtual locations, review that information; the available sources do not independently establish server type.
- Privacy and logging: Read the privacy policy and terms, including what information is collected and how activity data is handled. CSA cautions that providers’ policies may permit activity logging or collection of user information. A VPN shifts trust to the provider; it does not remove the need for trust.
- Security and transparency: Look for clear security documentation, timely maintenance, and independently published audit material where available. GovTech recommends reviewing privacy policies, security controls, and transparency.
- Leak protection and device support: Check current provider documentation for support for your operating system, a kill switch, and DNS leak controls. Do not assume these features are present or enabled by default.
- Performance for your use: Distance, congestion, protocol, and provider routing can affect speed. No comparative speed test is available here, so a provider’s Singapore listing alone does not establish how it will perform from your location.
- Access to a particular service: A Singapore IP may help with region-specific services, but it does not guarantee access. A service can block VPN traffic or apply separate account, payment, or licensing requirements.
What a VPN does—and does not—protect
A VPN encrypts traffic between your device and the VPN server and masks your ordinary public IP from websites that receive traffic through the tunnel. Traffic leaving the VPN server is handled by the provider, which CSA identifies as a potential point of failure if the server is compromised or misconfigured. A VPN does not protect against every threat or make unlawful activity lawful.
Avoid unknown “free VPN” installers. CSA warns that malicious actors have disguised malware as free VPN services and recommends careful provider selection and official download sources. This is a reason for caution, not a claim that every free VPN is malicious.

Is using a VPN legal in Singapore?
GovTech says personal VPN use is generally legal in Singapore, but using a VPN to commit an illegal act remains unlawful. Organizational policies and the terms of a particular service may also apply. This is general information, not legal advice.

Advanced option: connect through a Singapore home router
If you already have a Singapore home internet connection, you may be able to configure a VPN-capable router at home as a VPN server, then connect back to it while traveling. The TP-Link Archer BE805 manual documents VPN server and client configuration: Archer BE805 User Guide. If configured and reachable, your home connection would likely be the public-IP source seen by websites; that is an inference from the documented server function and how VPN server location affects apparent IP.

This setup requires a Singapore home connection, compatible router configuration, and router and ISP support for inbound remote access. It is more technical than using a VPN app and is not a practical route if you do not have a Singapore home connection. Check the exact model, firmware, and current availability before buying; the manual does not establish current stock or a current product listing.
