To get an IP address that appears to be in Nepal while you are abroad, use a VPN provider whose app currently offers a Nepal location. Install its app, choose Nepal from the location list, and connect. Proton VPN and ExpressVPN both describe this setup, but their instructions are provider claims—not independent confirmation that every site will identify the connection as Nepalese.
What a Nepalese IP address means
An IP address is a numerical label assigned to a device on an IP network, as described in the Nepal Telecommunications Authority’s 2025 IPv6 Migration Byelaw consultation paper. When people ask for a “Nepalese IP,” they usually mean an outward-facing address that a website or geolocation service associates with Nepal.

A VPN routes your connection through an endpoint offered by the provider. The destination site sees that route’s IP address rather than simply treating your connection as a direct one from your current network. A provider’s description of an endpoint as Nepalese does not guarantee that every IP database, website, bank, or streaming service will classify it the same way.

- Check the provider’s current location list. Confirm that Nepal appears in the provider’s app or live server list before signing up. Proton VPN says users can choose Nepal from its map or server list; ExpressVPN says to select Nepal in its app. Locations can change, so check the app rather than relying on an old list.
- Install the app for your device. Proton VPN lists apps for platforms including Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, Linux, and Chromebook. Check the provider’s current compatibility and plan details for your particular device; features may differ.
- Open the app and sign in if required. Account and subscription requirements depend on the provider and plan. Confirm the current terms before proceeding.
- Select Nepal and connect. Use the app’s location search, map, or server list to choose Nepal, then start the connection. Both providers describe this as a way to browse with an IP that appears to be from Nepal.
- Check the result on the site you intend to use. If it still reports another country, disconnect and reconnect, then check the site’s reported location again. Different services can rely on different geolocation data, and these provider instructions do not establish that a particular site will accept or classify the connection as Nepalese.
Choosing a provider for a Nepal IP
The available direct Nepal setup instructions establish that Proton VPN and ExpressVPN advertise a Nepal location. They do not establish which provider is faster from your country, more reliable for your device, or more likely to work with a particular service. Before choosing, compare the factors that affect your own use:

Proton VPN advertises a free plan with unlimited browsing and says it has no logs, ads, or malware. These are provider statements, not independently verified findings here; review the current plan limits and terms before relying on them. ExpressVPN’s Nepal page advertises a 30-day money-back guarantee for first-time subscribers and notes an exception for purchases through Apple or Google. That is a changeable commercial term, so confirm it on the provider’s current page before buying.
What a VPN cannot guarantee
- A Nepal location in a VPN app does not ensure that every geolocation database will return Nepal.
- It does not guarantee access to a specific site or service. A destination may use its own location checks or other restrictions.
- It does not establish that the connection is faster or more private in every situation. Those outcomes depend on the provider, plan, device, network, and how the service is configured.
If a particular website is your reason for connecting, check its current rules and test whether it recognizes the VPN connection. Do not assume that selecting Nepal overrides the service’s restrictions.

Legal context in Nepal
The Nepal Telecommunications Authority homepage lists a notice concerning the use of free VPNs, but the notice’s title alone does not explain its scope or establish a general legal rule. The authority’s site is nta.gov.np. Proton VPN says VPN use is legal in Nepal, but that is a vendor statement rather than authoritative legal verification. The sources available here do not settle the current legal position or the effect of any current restriction; consult current official notices and applicable law if legality is a material concern.
Nepal Telecom’s company background identifies Nepal Doorsanchar Company Limited as the company behind the Nepal Telecom brand and describes its service history. That background does not establish that a remote user can obtain a public static Nepal IP directly from the company, so it should not be treated as a substitute for the VPN setup above.
