What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Start by checking whether Windows has actually flagged the Killer Ethernet adapter, or whether only the Killer software suite is reporting a problem. The right fix depends on the Device Manager error, the exact adapter, and your PC’s Windows version. Check those first, then use the matching driver package and troubleshooting steps below.
First, identify what stopped working
- Press Windows key + R, enter
devmgmt.msc, and press Enter to open Device Manager. - Expand Network adapters. Find the Killer Ethernet device and note its model and any warning icon or error code. If it is not listed, check View > Show hidden devices.
- Press Windows key + R, enter
winver, and note your Windows version and build. Also record your PC or motherboard model.
A Device Manager error on the adapter is different from a message in the Killer software. Intel says “Service Not Running” and “No Killer Adapter Connected” can result from incompatible adapter/software combinations, outdated or incorrectly registered software, or connectivity trouble; those messages alone do not prove the Ethernet driver has failed. Intel’s service troubleshooting guidance covers those status messages.

Install a driver that matches your PC and adapter
First check your PC or motherboard manufacturer’s support page for a network driver for your exact model. OEM packages may be tailored to the system. If using Intel’s generic package, confirm that both your adapter and Windows version are supported; its driver record distinguishes package versions and supported adapters for 64-bit Windows 10 and Windows 11. The record was reviewed September 9, 2026, so check the page for the current version before installing: Intel Killer Performance Suite driver record.

For suite or update problems, perform a clean install
Intel recommends a clean installation for some Killer Performance Suite problems that persist after an ordinary update. Use Intel’s current instructions for package-specific prompts and the exact temporary-file cleanup steps: Intel’s clean-install procedure.
- Download the matching installer before removing the existing software.
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps (or Apps & features on some Windows 10 versions) and uninstall Intel Killer Performance Suite.
- Restart the PC.
- Remove temporary installation files as directed in Intel’s procedure, then run the downloaded installer and complete setup.
- Restart again if prompted, then test the Ethernet connection.
Use the Device Manager procedure for Code 43 or Code 56
For a Killer network adapter showing Code 43 or Code 56, Intel’s recommended sequence is to uninstall the device, restart Windows, and update the driver. Do not select the checkbox that removes the driver software when uninstalling. Intel’s Device Manager error-code instructions treat Code 10 separately, so use its Code 10 guidance rather than assuming the Code 43/56 steps apply.

Resolve the documented Windows 11 suite-installation conflict
If installation fails because of a conflict between the default Killer Performance Driver Suite UWD and Killer Ethernet Performance Suite, follow Intel’s specific procedure: uninstall the default UWD suite, restart, install the updated Intel Killer Performance Suite, and restart again. This applies to that installer conflict, not every case of a stopped Ethernet connection. Intel’s article was last reviewed May 28, 2025: Intel’s Windows 11 installation-conflict instructions.
If the Killer suite says “Service Not Running”
Check that the adapter and installed Killer software are compatible, and that you have a current package intended for that adapter. Intel’s troubleshooting guidance also describes checking that Killer network services are set to start automatically. Security or cleanup software may block services; if the service still will not start after checking the package and connection, the OEM driver, a prior driver rollback, or Windows integrity may need further investigation. Follow Intel’s service troubleshooting steps rather than treating the status message as proof of hardware failure.

Choose the next step from the symptom
| What you see | What it suggests | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| Code 43 or Code 56 on the adapter | A Device Manager-reported adapter problem | Uninstall the device without removing its driver software, restart, then update the driver per Intel’s error-code guidance. |
| Code 10 | A different Device Manager error path | Use Intel’s separate Code 10 guidance rather than the Code 43/56 sequence: Intel error-code instructions. |
| “Service Not Running” or “No Killer Adapter Connected” | A Killer software, service, compatibility, or connectivity issue is possible; the message does not establish driver failure | Check adapter/software compatibility, package version, and service startup using Intel’s service guidance. |
| Installer conflict involving the default UWD suite in Windows 11 | The documented suite-installation conflict | Remove the default UWD suite, restart, install the updated suite, and restart as described by Intel. |
| Suite/update issue without a matching device error | The installed suite may need a clean reinstall | Follow Intel’s clean-install procedure. |
When driver troubleshooting does not fix it
If the adapter still fails after installing the correct package and following the error-specific steps, the cause cannot be identified from the symptom alone. The next checks are the exact PC model, adapter hardware ID, Windows build, Device Manager code, and whether the manufacturer supplies a model-specific driver. These details determine whether the issue is a package mismatch, software problem, or something that needs hardware diagnosis.
