Then open that app, select the speakers or headphones you actually use, and look for Equalizer under playback-device effects. The codec name alone does not identify a universal Realtek app or guarantee that every output exposes an equalizer.
Why your motherboard model matters
The ALC S1220A is an onboard audio codec, not a complete software package. Motherboard makers pair it with different drivers and control applications, so the right download depends on the board’s full model and your Windows version. Use the manufacturer’s support page for that specific board rather than assuming a generic Realtek installer will provide the same controls.

Vendor documentation illustrates the differences: ASUS documents equalizer controls in Sonic Studio II and Realtek Audio Console on supported systems, while MSI directs users to download Realtek Audio Control from the motherboard’s support page. Those examples do not establish that either application is right for every S1220A board.

- Identify the motherboard. Check the board label, Windows System Information, or the computer’s firmware setup for its make and full model name.
- Open its official support page. Choose the Windows version installed on your PC, then find the audio driver and any companion audio utility the manufacturer lists for that model.
- Install the listed package. Follow the vendor installer’s prompts and restart if it requests one. If the support page specifies a separate audio application, install that too.
- Open the audio app. Search for its installed name from the Windows Start menu.
For example, MSI’s guidance is to obtain Realtek Audio Control through the support page for the relevant motherboard: MSI motherboard audio utility guidance.

Where to find the equalizer
ASUS Sonic Studio II
On an ASUS system that supports Sonic Studio II, open the app and enable Equalizer before adjusting its advanced settings or choosing a preset. ASUS says Sonic Studio is installed with the Realtek driver in the setup covered by its FAQ; this should not be taken as a guarantee for every ASUS board or ALC S1220A configuration. ASUS Realtek Audio Console
In a supported Realtek Audio Console setup, select the playback device and look for Equalizer in its playback-device controls. ASUS describes custom and preset settings in a guide for a particular notebook, so its menu example is not proof that every S1220A motherboard uses the same layout. Other motherboard audio suites
Your board maker may provide a different named audio suite or route sound effects through a companion app. Use the software named on the exact model’s support page and check that app’s playback or sound-effects settings; do not install another vendor’s utility simply because it also supports Realtek audio.

If the equalizer is missing
A missing control does not by itself mean the codec is defective. Check these items in order:

- Confirm that you have the exact motherboard model and selected the matching Windows version on its support page.
- Compare the installed audio driver and application with the package listed there; the driver alone may not include the vendor’s companion utility.
- Open the board maker’s specified audio app and select the playback endpoint your speakers or headphones use. The equalizer may be associated with one endpoint rather than shown globally.
- Check the manufacturer’s documentation for a separate effects suite, such as Sonic Studio II on supported ASUS systems.
There is no single documented troubleshooting fix that applies to every ALC S1220A implementation. If the board’s support page does not make the correct package clear, the motherboard’s full model and your Windows version are the details needed to identify it.

ASUS product material associates some SupremeFX S1220A motherboards with Sonic Studio III features, while its separate guides describe equalizer controls in Sonic Studio II and Realtek Audio Console for supported setups. MSI’s guidance points users to Realtek Audio Control from the relevant board support page. These are vendor- and system-specific examples, not a universal promise that every S1220A output has a graphic equalizer.
