To get a Finnish IP address while you are elsewhere, connect to a VPN server in Finland. Then check your public IP to confirm its reported country is Finland, and run a DNS leak test as a separate check. This changes the network address websites see; it does not make you physically present in Finland or guarantee access to any particular service.
What you need
- A VPN provider whose current country list includes Finland on the plan and device you intend to use.
- The provider’s official app for your device and an account you can sign in to.
- A public-IP lookup service and, for a separate routing check, a DNS leak test.
Finland availability and app interfaces can change. Confirm the provider’s current country list and device support before choosing a plan. The setup pages from NordVPN and Proton VPN describe Finland locations and setup flows; provider documentation is not independent testing or a guarantee that another service will accept the connection.

How to connect through Finland
- Choose a provider. Confirm Finland is selectable for your device and plan. Review its current privacy information, available protocols and leak-protection settings, as well as price, renewal terms, refund conditions and support directly with the provider.
- Install and sign in. Download the official app for your device, install it, and sign in. Exact screens and labels vary by platform and may change.
- Select Finland. Open the app’s country list or map and choose Finland. If the app offers a city or server choice, availability depends on the provider and can change.
- Connect. Start the VPN connection and wait for the app to report that it is connected.
- Check your public IP. Open a reputable public-IP lookup and confirm its country result is Finland. Traficom explains public-IP checks through router settings or a measurement service in its home network and router security guidance. On some mobile broadband connections, network address translation (NAT) means the router’s WAN address is not itself a public IP.
- Check DNS separately. Run a DNS leak test while connected. An IP lookup checks the visible public IP; it does not by itself establish that DNS requests use the intended route. ExpressVPN’s connection guidance recommends checking the IP and running a DNS leak test after connecting.
If the lookup does not show Finland
- Reconnect to another available Finland location, then repeat the public-IP lookup.
- Close and reopen the browser before checking again.
- If the IP lookup reports Finland but a site still treats you as elsewhere, the site may use additional signals or detect VPN traffic. The checks do not guarantee that a particular service will accept the connection.
What a Finnish IP address does—and does not—mean
An IP address is a numeric network address associated with an internet connection. A domain name, such as traficom.fi, is a human-readable name that DNS resolves to an IP address; see Traficom’s explanations of the .fi root and DNS and the .fi country code. A VPN routes traffic through a Finnish server so that the connection’s visible public IP can be associated with Finland.

IP geolocation is a network-location signal, not proof of a person’s physical location, nationality or identity. A VPN does not change your account’s registration country, payment details, device GPS settings or physical location. Streaming, banking and other services may apply their own terms or assess additional account and device signals. Check the specific service’s current rules; a Finnish IP alone does not establish that access is permitted or will work.

How to choose a VPN for this purpose
- Finland availability: Check that Finland is selectable on the plan and app you will use.
- Device support: Confirm the provider has an app for your device and that you can select its Finland location.
- Privacy and controls: Read the current privacy policy and technical documentation. Consider documented independent audits, protocol choices and leak-protection settings; marketing claims are not guarantees.
- Cost and terms: Verify current pricing, renewal terms, refund conditions and support directly with the provider, since these details can change.
- Service compatibility: Check the target website’s current terms and support information. A VPN provider’s Finland location does not prove compatibility with a third-party service.
