Use Puppeteer’s Page.screenshot() with fullPage: true to save a rendered page as one image. Set the viewport before navigation when the report depends on a particular responsive layout, and add a site-specific readiness check if the page loads content after the initial navigation.
Capture a full-page screenshot with Puppeteer
Puppeteer’s screenshot guide identifies Page.screenshot() as its screenshot API and shows saving an image to a file. The minimal workflow is to launch a browser, create a page, set its viewport, navigate to the target, and take a screenshot with fullPage: true. See the official Puppeteer screenshots guide.

Make the capture repeatable for a report
Set the viewport before navigation
Choose dimensions that match the layout you intend to document, such as a desktop or mobile viewport, and set them before page.goto(). Puppeteer notes that changing viewport dimensions can surprise some sites, so establish the intended dimensions early. For repeatable reporting, record the URL, viewport dimensions, capture date, and any waits or interactions used alongside the output; this recordkeeping is a practical workflow, not a Puppeteer feature. Wait for the page state your report needs
networkidle2 is a navigation wait option demonstrated in the guide, not proof that an application has finished rendering. If the page reveals content after a user action or application-specific event, wait for a relevant selector or perform the necessary interaction before taking the screenshot. Inspect the resulting image for missing deferred content or visible overlays.
Save the image deliberately
Use a filename and extension that make the output easy to identify, such as report.png. Puppeteer can infer the image type from the extension when type is omitted; a relative path is resolved from the current working directory. The ScreenshotOptions reference documents fullPage as defaulting to false, so set it explicitly for a full-page capture.

Choose an image or a PDF
Use a full-page screenshot when the report calls for one continuous image of the page. Use page.pdf() when readers need a paginated, paper-oriented document. These formats serve different review and distribution workflows.

PDF output has separate controls such as paper format, margins, scale, backgrounds, and page ranges. Puppeteer also notes that PDF generation modifies colors for printing by default; -webkit-print-color-adjust can be used when exact colors matter. Consult the PDFOptions reference and Page class documentation for the relevant settings and media behavior.

Useful screenshot options and edge cases
fullPagerequests a full-page image; it defaults tofalse.pathsaves the capture, with a relative path resolved from the current working directory. The extension can determine the image type iftypeis not specified.cliprestricts capture to a selected region. For a component rather than the whole document, the guide also documents element screenshots; the helper scrolls the element into view if needed.qualityapplies only to formats that support it; it does not apply to PNG.- Screenshot calls can affect coordination with page lifecycle operations: in a browser context, operations such as creating or closing pages wait for a screenshot to finish.
- Headless shell mode does not support navigating to a PDF document. That limitation concerns opening an existing PDF URL, not generating a PDF from a page with
page.pdf().

Troubleshoot missing or unexpected content
- The image ends before the bottom of the page: confirm that the call includes
fullPage: true; its documented default isfalse. - Images or other content are absent: the page may load them after navigation. Wait for the relevant content or application state before capture, then inspect the output; no universal readiness condition is established by the screenshot guide.
- The layout differs from the report’s intended device: set the viewport before navigation and use dimensions appropriate to the intended responsive layout.
- A consent banner or popup covers the page: handle the state before capture if the report needs a clean page. The Puppeteer screenshot documentation does not establish an automatic banner-removal feature.
- A PDF looks different from the browser: PDF output uses print media by default. Emulate screen media first if screen styling is what the report should show, and account for print color adjustment.
- The screenshot call appears to block page management: screenshot work can make page-creation or page-closing operations wait until capture completes.

Does full-page capture mean every lazy-loaded image will appear?
Not by itself. Wait for the target page’s deferred content to load before capture and inspect the output; the documented API does not promise a universal readiness condition.
