Apple Notes can organize a note with paragraph styles, lists, checklists, and divider lines. The controls differ by device: use Format options on iPhone and iPad, while Mac also offers a menu command and the Command-L shortcut for dividers.
Format text and add headings on iPhone

Open a note or create one in Notes. In a new note, the first line becomes its title.

While editing, tap the Format control and choose a style such as Heading. The available formatting options also include bold, italic, and list options.

To organize a longer note, select the text you want to format, choose Heading or Subheading, then use the adjacent collapse or expand control to hide or show that section.

Use lists and checklists
Choose a list option when you want to arrange related items in sequence. Choose the Checklist control when items need to be checked off as you complete them. Apple’s iPhone guide documents these formatting controls; their exact presentation can vary by device and software version.

Format notes on iPad
Tap Format while editing, then choose a text style such as Heading. For a divider, place the insertion point where the line should appear, open the expanded controls, and choose Insert Divider Line.

Format notes and insert dividers on Mac
Use the Format control to apply a paragraph style such as title, heading, subheading, or body. To insert a divider line, choose Edit > Insert Divider Line or press Command-L.
Apple specifies that paragraph styles and the default new-note style setting require notes stored in iCloud or on the Mac. Collapsible sections also require one of those account types. See Apple’s Mac guide to formatting notes.

Add a divider when a visible line will help separate parts of the note.
Apple’s controls and labels differ across iPhone, iPad, and Mac. If a label or option is missing, check the guide for your device and installed operating-system version; Apple may update the interface over time.
