To delete a saved Wi-Fi network from a laptop, open its Wi-Fi settings, find the saved or known networks list, select the network, and choose Forget or Remove. The steps differ on Windows, Mac, and Chromebook.
Windows: Forget a saved Wi-Fi network
- Open Settings.
- Go to Network & internet > Wi-Fi > Manage known networks.
- Select the network you want to remove and click Forget. Microsoft’s instructions use this path.
To use the network again, select it from the available Wi-Fi networks and enter its password.

Mac: Remove a network from the saved list
- Open the Apple menu and choose System Settings.
- Select Wi-Fi, then scroll down and open Advanced.
- Find the network, click its More Options button, choose Remove From List, and confirm Forget. See Apple’s instructions for forgetting a Wi-Fi network or preventing automatic joining.
Stop automatic joining without deleting the password
If you want to keep the network saved but prevent your Mac from connecting automatically, turn off Auto-Join for that network instead. The saved network and password remain available.
Chromebook: Forget a known network
- Open Settings.
- Go to Network > Wi-Fi > Known networks.
- Find the network, open More, and select Forget. Google’s Chromebook Wi-Fi instructions describe this option.
Forgetting deletes the saved network information. To reconnect, select the network and provide its password if prompted.

What happens after you forget a network?
The laptop removes the saved network details, so it will no longer automatically reconnect using those credentials. Forgetting does not turn off the router or hide its Wi-Fi signal: the network can still appear among nearby networks, and you can join it again later. Apple explains that forgetting a network does not stop a device from discovering it and showing it as available in its Wi-Fi network guidance.

Apple says supervised devices and managed networks may not offer the controls to forget a network or change Auto-Join. Also, when iCloud Keychain is used with the same Apple Account, forgetting a Wi-Fi network on one device can remove it from other devices using that account. These limitations apply to Apple’s documented ecosystem; they should not be assumed for Windows or Chromebooks. See Apple’s support article.
