Apple Mail on iPhone offers three ways to keep track of email: Follow Up Suggestions can bring an unanswered message you sent back to the top of your inbox after several days; Remind Me lets you choose when to revisit a message in the Primary category; and a flag marks a message for later retrieval.
Follow up on an email you sent
When a sent message has no reply after several days, Mail may automatically move it back to the top of your inbox. Apple describes this as a way to help you remember to follow up. The guidance does not specify an exact number of days, and this is not a reminder time you can schedule yourself. When the message returns, open it and continue the conversation in the existing thread.

Set a reminder to revisit a message
Use Remind Me when you want to return to a message at a time you choose, such as an incoming email that needs attention later. Apple’s documented steps apply to a message in the Primary category:

Flag a message to find it later
If you want a marker rather than a timed reminder, flag the email. Flagged messages remain in the Inbox and are also collected in the Flagged mailbox, where you can find them later. Apple says flags appear on the message across your Apple devices signed in to the same Apple Account. Follow Apple’s steps in Flag or block emails in Mail on iPhone.

Which option should you use?

Find Mail’s related mailboxes
Mail includes standard mailboxes named Follow Up, Remind Me, and Send Later. These are mailbox destinations for organizing or locating messages; their names alone do not provide another way to schedule a follow-up. Apple’s support instructions refer to newer iOS features and category views. Menu labels and feature availability can vary by iOS version, language, region, or Mail setup. Check the iOS version installed on your iPhone if an option or category described here is missing.
