To see selected publishers more often in Google Search, open Search personalization → Source preferences and choose the sources you want. You can also add sources from the selector beside Top Stories when that section appears. This is separate from following publishers in Google News, and choosing a source does not certify its accuracy.
Set preferred sources in Google Search

Open Google Search or the Google app, and select your profile picture or initial.

Search for a publisher, select its checkbox, and look for it under Your sources.

Google says that if you are signed in when you save the setting, it stays the same in every browser you sign into. See Google’s Preferred Sources in Google Search help page for the current instructions.
Add a source from Top Stories
Run a search about a significant recent event. If Top Stories appears, select the source selector beside its heading (shown as a cards-and-star icon), find the publisher, check it, then reload the results. This route is available only when Top Stories appears for the query.

Google says selected publishers may appear more often in Top Stories when they publish fresh material related to your search. They are not guaranteed to appear for every query or to supply all the results.
Where preferred sources appear
Google says Search source preferences can tailor Top Stories, AI Mode, and AI Overviews. Its publisher guidance on what’s news on Search says preferred sources can appear in relevant Top Stories and receive a preferred-source badge in AI Mode and AI Overviews. The setting affects visibility in relevant Search experiences; it does not replace the rest of Search’s results.

Following a publisher in Google News does not, by itself, set it as a preferred source in Search. Google explains the News feature in Customize what you find on Google News; some Google News features require you to be signed in.

You are looking in Discover: Discover has its own controls, which are not the Search Preferred Sources setting. Google notes that some Discover features may not be available in every language or country or region. See Customize what you find in Discover.

What “trusted” means here
Choosing a publisher tells Google which sources you would like to see more often in relevant Search experiences. It is a personalization choice, not Google’s stated endorsement of the publisher and not a guarantee that its reporting is accurate. Google describes news selection in terms including relevance, prominence, and publisher authoritativeness; readers should still assess a report’s sourcing, corrections, and transparency for themselves.
