Start by checking Vivaldi’s Status page, then sign out of Sync and sign back in. If Sync still will not connect, check that you are using the right password: your Vivaldi account password and Sync encryption password are separate. Do not reset the encryption password or clear remote Sync data until you have confirmed that your wanted data is available on a device or recoverable with a saved backup key.
1. Check whether Vivaldi Sync has a service issue
Visit Vivaldi’s Status page and look for a reported incident affecting Sync. A service problem can prevent devices from connecting even when your account and browser settings are correct. The status page reflects current service information, so check it when troubleshooting rather than assuming Sync is up or down.

2. Sign out of Sync and sign in again
Vivaldi recommends logging out and back in as a common connection remedy. This refreshes the browser’s authenticated Sync connection without immediately affecting your stored Sync data.

On desktop
- Open Settings > Sync.
- Log out of Sync.
- If needed, restart Vivaldi, then return to Settings > Sync and log in again.
- Select Start Sync if prompted. Vivaldi says the browser will continue trying to connect after you enter your credentials and start Sync.
On mobile
- Open the Vivaldi menu and go to Settings > Sync.
- Log out, then sign in again.

3. Confirm which password Sync is asking for
Sync uses two distinct credentials:
- Vivaldi account login password: authenticates your account when you sign in.
- Sync encryption password: encrypts data sent from your device and decrypts data received by it.
Changing your account login password does not automatically change your encryption password, even if you originally chose the same value for both. The encryption password must be at least 12 characters. If account sign-in works but Sync cannot unlock or decrypt your data, check the encryption password rather than repeatedly changing the account password. 4. Allow time for a large first sync
Changes can appear on another device within about a minute, but that does not mean a large profile’s initial sync will finish that quickly. Vivaldi says an initial sync can take some time, especially when a profile contains a large amount of data. If you have just enabled Sync on a device, leave it connected and give the first transfer time to complete before treating a delay by itself as a failure.
5. Check where synced items appear
Sync does not put every item in the same place on every platform. Vivaldi’s documented categories also differ among desktop, Android, and iOS, so do not assume that every listed data type is available on every device. The platform-specific lists are in the desktop, Android, and iOS guides.

Find tabs synced from another device
- Desktop: look under Synced Tabs in the Tab Button menu or the Windows and Tabs Panel.
- Android: open the Tab Switcher and use its Synced Tabs pane.
On Android, receiving a Send Tab to Device notification also requires Vivaldi notification permission in Android settings. A missing notification does not by itself show that the synced tab failed to arrive; check Synced Tabs as well.

Resetting a forgotten encryption password is not a harmless sign-in repair. Vivaldi’s documented reset clears remote Sync data and uploads data again from the device used to perform the reset. If an item exists only on the server and you have neither its local copy nor a usable saved backup encryption key, resetting can make that data unrecoverable. Vivaldi explicitly warns that Sync is not meant to be a data backup service.
Before proceeding, establish where the wanted data exists. The recovery options depend on what you still have:

If Sync has not connected for more than six hours and the Status page has no relevant update, Vivaldi asks users to submit a bug report. Include the account username, any displayed error, when the problem occurred, steps that reproduce it, and a screenshot of vivaldi://sync-internals and vivaldi://settings/sync/.
