If DLSS 5 is causing visual glitches in an older game, first check whether the game officially supports it or whether a community mod is injecting it. For an unofficial injection, disable and remove the mod, restore the game’s original files, and test the same scene again. That reversible check helps determine whether the injection is involved; it is not an NVIDIA-published fix.
First determine how DLSS 5 was added
Official DLSS 5 support and community injection are different setups, with different troubleshooting paths. Check the game’s graphics settings and the mod list: if the game has no developer-provided DLSS 5 option and you added the feature with a mod or replacement DLL, treat it as an unofficial injection.

NVIDIA’s FAQ, updated September 3, 2026, said DLSS 5 had debuted in NBA 2K27 for GeForce RTX 50 Series GPUs and GeForce NOW. It said the company planned to expand official support to GeForce RTX 40 Series after further RTX 50 Series performance tuning. That rollout is time-sensitive; check the NVIDIA DLSS 5 FAQ for current status. A game outside official support that has DLSS 5 added by a mod should not be troubleshot as though it had NVIDIA’s or the developer’s integration.
Remove an unofficial injection and test a clean baseline
Use this sequence to isolate the cause without assuming a particular DLL, driver, or visual-control value will fix every game. It is conservative PC troubleshooting, not a procedure published by NVIDIA.

- Turn off the injection. Follow the specific mod’s documented uninstall process to remove its added files. Avoid deleting or replacing files based on generic instructions that do not match your mod.
- Restore original game files if needed. If the mod’s removal does not restore the game, use the repair or verification option in the game’s launcher.
- Re-test the same scene. Keep the relevant graphics settings and scene as consistent as possible. If the glitch disappears with the injection removed, that points to the injection or its interaction with the game as the cause.
PC Gamer reported visual distortions in some community experiments and described a case where a mod could not hook the required DLSS pipeline because actual motion vectors or scene depth were unavailable. That is one reported failure, not a diagnosis for every artifact. If the glitch persists after restoring the original files, the injection has not been shown to be the cause; troubleshoot the game’s own graphics settings or seek support for that game rather than applying unrelated DLSS 5 mod fixes.
Check compatibility before trying the injection again
If the game looks normal without the mod, leave the injection off while checking the maintainer’s instructions and release notes for the exact game version. In particular, look for the required rendering inputs and whether the game provides them in a form the mod can use. A generic injector cannot be assumed to work with every game’s rendering pipeline.

NVIDIA describes DLSS 5 as using a game’s frame color and motion vectors to apply learned lighting and material effects anchored to the scene’s source 3D content. Its official integration uses NVIDIA Streamline. Because that design depends on game-provided inputs, an injector that cannot access the required data may fail or produce distorted results; that is a technical inference, supported by PC Gamer’s reported missing-input example, not a universal explanation for glitches. Change visual controls only if the mod provides them
If the specific mod exposes visual controls, change one at a time and re-test the same scene. Reducing or disabling the effect can help establish whether it is responsible for an artifact, but no universal intensity setting is established. NVIDIA’s intensity, color-grading, and masking controls are described for developers integrating DLSS 5 into a game; that does not mean every player-facing injection exposes equivalent controls.

PC Gamer’s September 3, 2026 report covers community experiments involving RenoDX and ShortFuse, as well as use of ReShade and a ReShade HDR Installer. Those examples do not establish that ReShade is an official NVIDIA product or that it will fix visual glitches. Do not add another tool or swap DLLs simply because a different game’s setup used them.

If DLSS 5 is built into the game, use that game’s graphics settings and support route. Do not apply unofficial DLL or injector instructions to an official integration. NVIDIA’s FAQ establishes rollout information, but does not give a specific player-facing procedure for fixing DLSS 5 visual glitches.

Tom’s Hardware reported on September 4, 2026, that NBA 2K27 was the only officially supported game at launch and quoted NVIDIA PR head Ben Berraondo saying RTX 40 Series support was planned after performance tuning.
