If Uncharted: The Lost Legacy is crashing, stuttering, or behaving strangely with a controller on PC, work through the checks below in order: update the game, let its initial shader work finish, compare your PC with the developer’s targets, verify the Steam installation, and check audio-device conflicts. These are diagnostic steps, not guaranteed fixes; first confirm that the affected game is The Lost Legacy rather than Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End in the UNCHARTED: Legacy of Thieves Collection.
Start with the checks most likely to explain the symptom
Steam’s support guidance covers bugs, crashes, performance problems, and compatibility issues in the collection. Before troubleshooting, note which game is affected and whether the problem is a crash, a performance hitch, or an input/audio issue. That distinction helps make later reports useful.

1. Update the game while online
Launch the game through Steam while connected to the internet so the local installation can receive available game updates. Check for updates using your platform’s normal update flow; an old patch number is not evidence that it is the latest version. Naughty Dog’s PC release notes document stability and performance work in an earlier update, as well as later input-related changes (October 28, 2022, v1.1 notes; July 6, 2023, v1.4 notes).
2. Let shader and cache work complete
If the game displays a shader-installation progress notice, wait for it to finish before playing. Steam’s pinned support instructions also list completing the initial cache as a troubleshooting step. This is a sensible first check when performance is poor, but it does not establish that shader work causes every stutter.

3. Compare your PC with the published targets
Naughty Dog published the following PC targets on September 28, 2022. They are developer-stated specifications, not independent benchmark results or a guarantee of a particular frame rate on every system. Pay attention to resolution, graphics tier, graphics-card memory (VRAM), RAM, and storage together.

If your hardware is below the tier that matches your chosen resolution and quality, try lowering graphics settings or resolution as a diagnostic. Steam specifically advises checking minimum specifications and avoiding VRAM overrun. This can help identify whether the chosen workload is too demanding; it does not promise a specific performance improvement.

4. Verify the Steam game files
- Open Steam > Library.
- Right-click UNCHARTED: Legacy of Thieves Collection and choose Properties.
- Select Local Files, then choose Verify the integrity of the game files.
Steam says this check can address files that are corrupt or were not downloaded completely. Verification is a repair check, not a guarantee that every crash or stutter will be resolved.

5. Check the selected audio device and competing audio apps
Some controllers are recognized by Windows as audio devices. If connecting a controller changes, mutes, or degrades game audio, open Windows Settings > System > Sound and confirm that the intended output device is selected. Also check whether other audio programs are running in parallel. This symptom alone does not establish that the controller is incompatible or that a new controller is needed.

6. Consider where the game is installed
Steam recommends an SSD for best results, and Naughty Dog specifies a 126 GB SSD for its recommended and higher performance tiers. If the game is on an HDD, drive type is worth considering as a storage and performance factor. An SSD is not a guaranteed remedy for crashes, stuttering, or controller issues.
Use the documented fixes for specific mouse and audio symptoms
Naughty Dog’s July 6, 2023 v1.4 notes describe changes aimed at particular issues. They do not establish a universal fix for controller problems.

Mouse-camera jitter
The v1.4 notes describe an improvement intended to address camera jitter experienced by some mouse-and-keyboard users. The game also has a Mouse Smoothing setting at Options > Controls > Mouse Smoothing. Try it if the symptom is mouse-camera jitter; it is not a controller troubleshooting setting.

Muffled, missing, quiet, or distorted audio
For muffled or missing audio, unusually low volume, pops, clicks, or distortion, the same notes describe Audio Compatibility options at Options > Audio > Compatibility. They recommend changing the output mode or increasing latency for the relevant audio problem. Restart the game for a latency change to take effect.

Report a problem with enough detail to reproduce it
If the checks do not resolve the issue, use the in-game crash reporting system when it appears. Steam’s pinned support post asks players to include details that distinguish a game-specific fault from a system or configuration problem. Record the exact steps that reproduce the issue, if you can.
- Which game is affected: The Lost Legacy or Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.
- Issue type, and the location or activity when it occurred.
- CPU, GPU and graphics-driver version, RAM, operating system, and whether the game is on an HDD or SSD.
- Game version and the settings in use.
- DXDiag information and save data, as requested by the support post.
Neither the official support guidance nor the cited PC specifications establish a general crash rate, a single root cause for these symptoms, or one fix that works across affected PCs. Individual community reports should not be treated as evidence that a particular failure is widespread.
