The message “Try again later. Something happened on our end” is a generic Microsoft Store transaction or installation failure. It can be a temporary Microsoft service problem, but it is also commonly caused by Store cache or registration damage, account authentication, incorrect time or region, proxy or VPN interference, required services, or Windows component corruption.
First test a second, free app. If only one listing fails, investigate that app’s availability and licensing. If every app fails, follow the low-risk fixes below in order. Windows 10 reached end of support on October 14, 2025; Store functionality may continue, but normal support and future compatibility are no longer guaranteed. See Microsoft’s Windows 10 lifecycle notice.

What the message means
“Our end” does not prove that Microsoft’s servers are down. The Store uses several services for listings, accounts, licensing, payments and downloads, and a communication failure in any of them can produce the same wording. A local Store component can fail to communicate correctly and display it too.

Before changing anything, note whether the failure occurs with Get, Install, Buy or Update, whether the Store opens, and whether a hexadecimal code such as 0x80073D26 or 0x80080005 appears. A specific code is a different troubleshooting case and should be researched separately.

One app or every app?
Only one app fails
- Confirm that the app is available in your country or region.
- Check that it supports your Windows edition, processor architecture and Windows 10 version.
- The publisher may have delisted or replaced it.
- For a paid app, verify the Microsoft account, payment authorization and account region.
- Look for an installer on the publisher’s official website.
Every app fails
Prioritize Store cache and registration, account sign-in, time and region, network or proxy settings, the Store Install Service, Windows Update components, and system-file repair.
Check whether the problem is temporary
- Close Microsoft Store and restart Windows.
- Open Store and confirm the intended account under the account icon.
- Open another listing and try a small, free, unrelated app.
- Sign in to your Microsoft account in a browser.
- If many users suddenly report failures, check Microsoft’s official support or service-status channels.
If Store works later without a local change, a transient service issue is possible, but that result does not prove the cause.
Fixes in the safest order
| Order | Action | Risk | Move on when |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Restart and test another free app | Very low | The error remains |
| 2 | Verify account, time, region, VPN and proxy | Low | Settings are correct |
| 3 | Run wsreset.exe |
Very low | Store still fails |
| 4 | Repair Microsoft Store | Low | Repair has no effect |
| 5 | Reset Microsoft Store | Low to moderate | Re-sign-in is acceptable but failure continues |
| 6 | Check Microsoft Store Install Service | Low | The service is unavailable or controlled by policy |
| 7 | Install applicable Windows updates | Low | No applicable update exists |
| 8 | Run DISM and SFC | Moderate time cost | Corruption remains or Store still fails |
| 9 | Re-register Store with PowerShell | Moderate | PowerShell reports package or policy errors |
| 10 | Repair-install or upgrade Windows | High time cost | Only after backup and recovery preparation |
| 11 | Reset the PC | High | Last resort |
1. Verify time, region and network
- Open Settings > Time & Language > Date & Time.
- Enable automatic time, select Sync now if shown, and confirm the time zone.
- Open Settings > Time & Language > Region and confirm the country or region.
- Temporarily disconnect a VPN.
- Check Settings > Network & Internet > Proxy.
- On a work or school network, test another connection or ask the administrator whether Store traffic is blocked.
Microsoft Community guidance identifies network, proxy, date, time zone, regional settings and updates as relevant checks, but it does not establish one universal cause: community troubleshooting guidance. Do not permanently disable antivirus or firewall protection; if security software is suspected, perform only a short controlled test and restore protection immediately.

- Press Windows key + R.
- Enter
wsreset.exeand select OK. - Wait for the blank Command Prompt window to close. Store should reopen automatically.
- Try the installation again.
This clears Store cache; it is not a guaranteed repair. Some Microsoft Q&A answers also suggest wsreset.exe -i for initializing Store-related components. That variation is community guidance, not a universally documented Windows 10 command. See the Microsoft Q&A example.

3. Repair, then reset Microsoft Store
- Go to Start > Settings > Apps > Apps & features.
- Select Microsoft Store > Advanced options.
- Choose Repair, restart Windows and test.
- If it still fails, return to the same screen, choose Reset and confirm.
Repair attempts to correct the app while retaining more stored data. Reset clears Store-specific data and may require another sign-in; it does not target your personal documents. Microsoft Q&A repeatedly lists this Windows 10 path: Store troubleshooting answers.
4. Check Microsoft Store Install Service
- Press Windows key + R, enter
services.mscand select OK. - Find Microsoft Store Install Service.
- If it is stopped, select Start. If it is running but installations fail, select Restart.
Service names and availability can vary by edition, policy and system state. Avoid broad changes to service startup settings. Microsoft Q&A guidance for Store installation failures includes this check: Microsoft Q&A service guidance.
5. Install applicable Windows updates
- Open Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates and install what your device is offered.
- Restart and test Store.
Windows updates and Microsoft Store app updates use separate mechanisms; installing one does not necessarily update the other. Microsoft documents that distinction in its update information: Windows update documentation. Because Windows 10 support ended on October 14, 2025, update availability depends on edition, servicing status, Extended Security Updates eligibility and device management.
6. Repair Windows system files
Open Command Prompt (Admin) and run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
When it finishes, run:
sfc /scannow
Restart Windows after both commands. DISM repairs the component store used by system-file repair; SFC checks protected system files. They can take time, so do not close the window. If SFC says it could not repair some files, keep the exact result and proceed rather than repeatedly running the same command without a plan. This sequence is commonly recommended in Microsoft Community and Q&A troubleshooting, including this case.

7. Re-register Microsoft Store
Use this only after cache reset and Repair/Reset have failed:
- Right-click Start and choose Windows PowerShell (Admin), if available.
- Run:
Get-AppXPackage *WindowsStore* -AllUsers | ForEach-Object {
Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)AppXManifest.xml"
}
- Restart Windows and test Store.
This attempts to re-register an existing package; it is not a repair of Microsoft’s backend services. It can fail when the package is missing, damaged, restricted by policy, installed differently, or blocked by permissions or execution policy. Do not delete the WindowsApps folder or download Store packages from random sites. The command is community guidance documented in Microsoft Q&A answers.
Special cases
Paid apps or purchases
If the message appears after selecting a price or entering a password, sign out of Store, restart and sign back in with the account that owns the purchase. Check the payment method and account region, then test a free app. Do not repeatedly submit payment while the result is ambiguous. The same wording has been reported during paid purchases: Microsoft Q&A purchase example.

Gaming Services, Xbox identity components, licensing and Store dependencies can fail independently. Capture any specific error code before using more invasive commands; codes such as 0x80073D26, 0x80080005 and 0x8007139F do not share one fix. See the separate Microsoft Q&A examples.

Managed PCs and modified Windows installations
Group Policy, Intune, firewall rules, licensing restrictions, DNS filtering and parental controls may intentionally block Store operations. Contact the administrator instead of bypassing policy. Debloating scripts, removed AppX packages, registry cleaners and changed WindowsApps permissions can also prevent re-registration.
If Store will not open at all
Start with wsreset.exe, then try DISM and SFC, Store re-registration and a separate Windows user account. If every account fails, system repair is more appropriate than repeatedly clearing the cache.
Use another official installer when available
If the publisher supplies a direct Windows installer, use its official website. For Microsoft software, use Microsoft’s download pages; for open-source software, use the project’s official site or repository. Verify the publisher and digital signature where practical. This gets the app installed but does not prove that Store itself is repaired. Avoid unofficial repackaged Store installers.

When repair or upgrade is justified
If Store fails for every user account after the earlier steps, consider an in-place Windows repair installation, if suitable media is available, or an upgrade to Windows 11 when the device is eligible. Neither is guaranteed to fix this particular message. Windows 10’s end-of-support date also makes an upgrade a platform-lifecycle decision; Microsoft lists consumer Extended Security Updates for some users through October 12, 2027, but ESU does not specifically repair Store installations.

Do not jump straight to Reset this PC. Microsoft’s reset guidance says to back up important files and have the BitLocker recovery key. Keep my files preserves personal files but removes applications and settings; Remove everything is more destructive. Cloud download and Local reinstall have different requirements. Review Microsoft’s Windows Recovery Environment documentation and recovery-options comparison before proceeding.
Stop doing these things
- Do not assume the wording proves a Microsoft outage.
- Do not run
wsreset.exerepeatedly when the same error returns; move to the next diagnostic step. - Do not permanently disable antivirus, firewall or Windows security features.
- Do not use registry cleaners or paid “PC repair” tools as a first response.
- Do not manually delete Store or
WindowsAppsfiles. - Do not submit repeated payments during an unclear purchase failure.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does wsreset.exe delete my apps?
It clears the Microsoft Store cache. It is not intended to uninstall your apps, although later Store Reset can clear Store-specific settings and require you to sign in again.
Why can I browse Store listings but not install anything?
Browsing can work while authentication, licensing, the Install Service, proxy configuration or download components fail. Test a free app and continue through the ordered fixes.

Windows 10 support ended October 14, 2025, but Microsoft Store may continue working on existing systems. Microsoft has not established a single shutdown date for Store access on Windows 10.
Does changing DNS fix this error?
DNS changes may help only when name resolution is the specific problem. They do not repair Store registration, licensing or Windows files, so DNS is not a standard first-line fix.
Is the error caused by Windows 10 end of support?
Not necessarily. End of support can affect future compatibility and available updates, but this message can also result from local cache, account, network, service or system-file problems.
