If Streamlabs Desktop shows “404 Not Found This API does not exist,” Streamlabs’ documented fix is to uninstall the app and install its newest release. The guidance is for this error in Streamlabs Desktop; it does not establish the cause of every error with similar wording.
Fix the error by reinstalling Streamlabs Desktop
Streamlabs attributes this Desktop error to an outdated application version. Its support article, last updated April 25, 2025, recommends replacing the installed version with the newest release. It does not specify a version number or operating system, and the procedure has not been independently verified here.
- Uninstall Streamlabs Desktop. Remove the current installation from your computer.
- Download the newest release. Get the current Streamlabs Desktop installer from the official Streamlabs website.
- Install the downloaded version. Open the installer and complete setup, then launch Streamlabs Desktop again.
- Check whether the error remains. If it does, Streamlabs directs users to its public Discord support channel or to submit a support ticket. See the Streamlabs error-specific support article for its current support options.
What this error does—and does not—mean
The Streamlabs support article, published March 28, 2022 and updated April 25, 2025, identifies an outdated Streamlabs Desktop version as the cause of the error in that app. It does not say that every “API does not exist” message has the same cause.
There is a separate developer-facing context: a February 23, 2022 Twitch Developer Forums discussion used similar wording for calls involving legacy Twitch API v5 during its shutdown period. That situation concerns developers’ API requests, not the Streamlabs Desktop troubleshooting instructions above. If you are writing software that calls Twitch APIs directly, an app reinstall is not a substitute for investigating the endpoint and migration requirements relevant to that code.
