Start with your platform, version, and symptom
The Witcher 3 Remastered is available on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. The right troubleshooting path depends on where you play and whether you are seeing low FPS or stutter, a long load, or a crash. CD PROJEKT RED’s Remastered FAQ lists supported platforms; current patch notes are platform-specific.

- Note your platform and, on PC, storefront (Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store, Battle.net, or Xbox Play Anywhere).
- Record the installed game version and your GPU and driver version if you play on PC.
- Describe when the problem occurs: at launch, during loading, in a particular area, or during gameplay. Note whether it began after a game hotfix, driver update, or settings change.
Change one variable at a time and compare in the same location and settings. That makes it easier to tell whether a step helped, without assuming that one documented issue explains every stutter or crash.

PC: install Hotfix 5.00c
CD PROJEKT RED’s October 1, 2026 Hotfix 5.00c notes list Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store, Battle.net, and Xbox Play Anywhere (PC) as supported. The hotfix reverted a change that had caused significant performance and visual issues with HairWorks enabled for some users. It also fixed saving or loading when the Documents folder path contained special characters and the inability to launch the Classic (1.32) version, among other issues. Check your storefront for the update and confirm the game has installed it before testing settings.

Console and Xbox Play Anywhere builds
The October 1, 2026 Patch 5.00b notes cover PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC Xbox Play Anywhere. They include a fix for unavailable DLSS in the Xbox Play Anywhere PC version. On console, install the update offered for your platform; do not apply PC-only driver or HairWorks advice to a console.
Fix stuttering or low FPS on PC
Test HairWorks first
CD PROJEKT RED’s current HairWorks support notice says enabling NVIDIA HairWorks may significantly affect performance and recommends disabling it until the issue is addressed. This is a documented issue for some users, not a diagnosis for every performance problem.
- Install Hotfix 5.00c.
- In the game’s graphics settings, disable NVIDIA HairWorks.
- Repeat the same route or scene at the same resolution and settings, then compare whether the stutter or frame rate changes.
If performance does not improve, continue to the driver and software checks rather than treating HairWorks as the only possible cause.

Check whether a graphics-driver update triggered the problem
If the problem began immediately after updating your GPU driver, CD PROJEKT RED advises trying the previous driver version and reporting the issue. Otherwise, its PC performance checklist recommends a clean driver installation. Use the relevant GPU vendor’s driver-installation process; the support guidance does not identify a particular driver version as universally best.
Verify files and rule out background conflicts
Use your storefront’s game-file verification option to check the installation. Then temporarily disable overlays—CD PROJEKT RED names Discord, Ubisoft Connect, and Galaxy as examples—and close unnecessary applications, including hardware-monitoring tools and antivirus or antimalware software. Retest before turning off or changing anything else. These are diagnostic checks, not proof that an overlay or background app caused the issue.

Account for resolution, scene, and requirements
CD PROJEKT RED says performance varies with system configuration, gameplay scene, graphics settings, and output resolution; higher resolution significantly affects FPS. Its updated PC requirements also state that the latest technical enhancements require an SSD. The page says Windows 10 is no longer officially supported or tested going forward, though the game may still run on it. Check the requirements against your PC, but these facts alone do not establish that an upgrade will fix a particular stutter.

A crash is not necessarily a performance problem. For crashes at startup, during loading, or in play, CD PROJEKT RED’s PC crash guidance recommends checking requirements, closing nonessential applications, and verifying game files.
- Confirm the PC meets the current requirements for the game and the technical features you have enabled.
- Close nonessential applications, including antivirus or antimalware software, then test whether the crash recurs. If needed, check the PC for malware or viruses.
- Verify the game files through your storefront and test again.
If you cannot save or load and the Documents folder path contains special characters, install Hotfix 5.00c: its notes specifically list a fix for that issue. Avoid jumping straight to a reinstall or registry or BIOS changes; those are not among the reviewed official first-line steps.
If you play on a console
Install the current update available for your console and check the patch notes for that platform. The Hotfix 5.00c PC graphics and driver steps do not apply to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, or Nintendo Switch 2. If stuttering, crashes, or loading trouble persist after updating, contact CD PROJEKT RED support with your platform, game version, symptom, and when it occurs. The FAQ notes that reverting to an earlier version may be possible depending on platform; check its platform-specific guidance rather than assuming rollback is available everywhere.
Escalate with useful evidence
If the official checks do not resolve the problem, give support enough detail to distinguish a game issue from a system-specific one. The PC performance guidance asks for a video where possible; if the issue is limited to a location, include the relevant save folder: %userprofile%DocumentsThe Witcher 3gamesaves.
