Start by sending a test alert from the streaming application you use. If it does not appear in the live scene, check the Alert Box source, active scene, visibility, and layer order. If the test appears but a real tip does not, verify that it was made through your Streamlabs donation link and that the transaction is completed and listed in your donation history.
First, identify which kind of failure you have
- The test alert does not appear on stream: Check the Alert Box integration and the scene being sent to the audience.
- The test appears, but a real donation does not: Check the donation link and payment status.
- The alert is registered but hidden, silent, delayed, or stuck: Check source visibility, moderation, alert settings, filters, and browser rendering as applicable.
A dashboard preview is not proof that an alert reaches your streaming software. Save your alert settings, then use the test control in the application or plugin you stream with. Streamlabs documents test controls in its Alert Box dashboard, Streamlabs Desktop, and the Streamlabs OBS plugin. Streamlabs’ alerts and widget troubleshooting guide covers these workflows.

Make sure the Alert Box is in the live scene
Use the integration that matches your streaming software. After adding or changing a source, test it in the scene you actually stream from.

Streamlabs Desktop
- Open the scene you use for your broadcast.
- In the Sources panel, add an Alert Box if one is not already there.
- Check that the source is enabled and visible. Move it higher in the source layer stack if another source covers it.
- Send a test alert from Streamlabs Desktop.
OBS with the Streamlabs Plugin
- Open your live scene in OBS.
- Open Streamlabs > Widgets and add the Alert Box.
- Confirm the source is enabled and visible, and move it above any source that may obscure it.
- Send a test alert through the plugin.
OBS without the plugin, or another compatible application
- Copy the Alert Box Widget URL from Streamlabs.
- In your streaming application, add a Browser Source and paste in the Widget URL.
- Make sure the Browser Source is in the active scene, enabled, and positioned where the alert can be seen. Adjust its dimensions if the alert is clipped.
- Send a test alert through the streaming application.
Streamlabs’ troubleshooting guide recommends moving an obscured source higher in the layer order. If you use event filtering on a Browser Source Widget URL, check that the donation alert has not been filtered out. Streamlabs notes that URL filtering applies to Browser Source widgets, not the native Alert Box sources in Streamlabs Desktop or the plugin.

Check that the donation alert is enabled
- Open the Alert Box settings and confirm that the donation or tip alert type is enabled.
- Save any changes before testing.
- If you use alert variations, test the relevant variation; a general test may not confirm that every variation is configured correctly.
- If you use a Browser Source, review any event filtering applied to its Widget URL.
The precise controls can vary with the Streamlabs integration and version. Streamlabs’ alert troubleshooting instructions describe the available test and filtering behavior.
If tests work but real donations do not
Check how the viewer paid, then check whether the payment completed. Streamlabs Support says tips generate Streamlabs alerts only when made through the creator’s Streamlabs donation link, typically a link containing /donate/ or /tip/. A payment made through a separate PayPal or DonationAlerts link will not create a Streamlabs tip alert. See Streamlabs’ “Donation/Tip Alert Didn’t Show on Stream or Recent Events” support article.

- Confirm the viewer used your Streamlabs donation link, not a separate payment link.
- Check Streamlabs donation history to see whether the transaction is listed.
- Verify the payment is completed. Pending bank-account or eCheck transactions do not appear in Streamlabs until they clear.
- Check that the PayPal email is correct and that the currency used is one you accept.
A chat message or a viewer’s claim that they paid is not confirmation that Streamlabs received a completed transaction. If the donation is missing from donation history, resolve the payment or link issue before troubleshooting the on-screen widget.

Fix alerts that are delayed, hidden, or not rendering correctly
Match the fix to the symptom, change one thing at a time, and retest after each adjustment. Streamlabs lists these checks in its alerts and widget troubleshooting guide.

- Alert is hidden: Confirm the source is enabled, visible, in the active scene, and high enough in the layer order to avoid being covered.
- Alert is delayed or waiting for approval: Check whether Unlimited Alert Moderation Delay is enabled. Streamlabs says moderated alerts that have not been accepted will not play.
- Custom design is broken: Temporarily disable custom HTML/CSS unless you intentionally use it and have checked the code.
- Wrong theme or scene variation: Verify the Widget Theme selected for the scene collection.
- A specific message does not appear: Review profanity settings and custom bad-word entries, which may filter the message.
- Browser Source fails to render or animate correctly: Toggle browser hardware acceleration, restart the streaming application, and refresh or re-add the widget source if needed.
- Browser Source still has problems: Streamlabs documents clearing the relevant OBS browser cache. Its steps give separate cache paths for Streamlabs Desktop and OBS Studio on Windows; use the current support instructions for your installed application rather than assuming a path applies to every version.
- Account integration seems disconnected: Try logging out and back in, then relink the account if needed.
