Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Start by checking how much is affected: one title, one streaming app, or several apps. Then check the TV’s network, restart and update the TV and app, and reinstall only the app that still fails. Save account or platform resets for last; the right steps depend on your TV’s make, model, and software.
First, identify what is failing
Note whether the app opens, whether other titles play, whether other apps work, and whether a black screen comes with sound. Record any error message and the TV’s make and model before contacting support. Roku’s troubleshooting guidance also recommends trying other titles and apps to separate a title or app problem from a broader device issue.

Check the TV’s connection
Open the TV’s network settings and confirm it is connected to the intended Wi-Fi network. If the TV reports a connection problem, reconnect it and restart the router. Google TV’s support flow starts with checking Wi-Fi and the selected network; Roku provides network connection tests and reconnect steps.

- If practical, compare playback on another network, such as a phone hotspot. The test uses mobile data and may incur charges.
- If the TV has an Ethernet port, a wired connection can help distinguish Wi-Fi trouble from an app or TV issue. Google Play Help includes Ethernet as a troubleshooting option.

Restart the app and TV, then check for updates
- Close and reopen the app. Use the TV’s app controls if it provides a way to close an app; otherwise move to the device restart.
- Restart the TV or streaming device. Use its settings menu or the manufacturer’s restart or cold-boot instructions. On some TVs, pressing the remote’s power button leaves the set in standby rather than fully restarting it.
- Check for TV software updates. Open the system or support section of the TV settings and look for a software update. Menu names vary by brand and model.
- Check for an app update. Use the TV’s app store or app-management controls, if available.

Repair a problem limited to one app
If other apps play normally but one app continues to crash, freeze, or refuse to load, verify that you are signed in and that your subscription is active where relevant. Then update the app and, if the TV allows it, remove and reinstall it. Reinstalling can require you to sign in again.

Buffering or repeated stops
Prioritize connection stability: check the TV’s network status, try another network or Ethernet if practical, and restart the router and TV. Then check for device and app updates. Netflix identifies an unstable internet connection or a device needing an update as possible causes of buffering; it does not establish a universal speed threshold for this troubleshooting flow. - Contact the streaming service if other apps play but one service does not. Provide the title, exact error text, TV model, app version if available, and the steps you tried.
- Contact the TV manufacturer if several TV apps fail while other devices work on the same network, or if the apps still fail during a hotspot comparison.
- Contact your internet provider if the TV and other devices have network trouble, or connection checks do not resolve repeated buffering.
These comparisons help support teams distinguish a title or service issue from a TV or network problem; Roku, Netflix, and LG each offer troubleshooting steps built around comparing titles, apps, devices, or connections.
