How to Fix Split-Screen Co-Op Problems in STAR WARS: Galactic Racer

STAR WARS: Galactic Racer has no split-screen mode. Learn why controller troubleshooting won’t help and how to race with friends online instead.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

You can’t enable split-screen in STAR WARS: Galactic Racer. The game’s FAQ says it does not support split-screen multiplayer, so a missing local-play option is not a controller, console, PC, or display fault. To race with friends, use online multiplayer instead; if an online feature that should work is failing, check the game’s known-issues post and report an unlisted bug through customer support.

First, identify the problem

“Co-op” can mean playing together locally on one screen, or joining the same online session. The game’s FAQ rules out the first option: STAR WARS: Galactic Racer does not support split-screen multiplayer, and it does not describe a local co-op mode. Steam lists online PvP and cross-platform multiplayer instead.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

If you are looking for a split-screen toggle, a second-player prompt, or a way to join a local race from the same console or PC, there is no setting to turn on. Reconnecting another controller or changing display settings will not add that mode. If your goal is to race against or alongside a friend, the available route is online multiplayer.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

This distinction matters because a missing option can look like a setup problem. In a game that supports local multiplayer, players may need to connect another controller, sign in another profile, or choose a local mode. Those are not fixes for STAR WARS: Galactic Racer: the FAQ explicitly says the feature is not supported. A second controller can be useful for games that offer couch multiplayer, but it cannot create a mode this game does not include.

Likewise, “co-op” should not be read as a promise of a shared-screen cooperative campaign or local team mode. The documented alternative is online PvP, which lets players meet in online races. The FAQ and store listings do not identify a local co-op option. If playing together in the same room on one display is essential, online play is not an equivalent replacement; it is simply the supported multiplayer route.

How to race with a friend online

  1. Confirm that both players can use online multiplayer. Check the requirements for each player’s platform. On Xbox console, online multiplayer requires Xbox Game Pass Essential, Premium, or Ultimate; the subscription is sold separately. Check the current Xbox listing and terms for your region. The Xbox listing checked October 11, 2026, describes online multiplayer for two to twelve players, but subscription names and requirements may change.
  2. Check platform compatibility and crossplay. Steam lists cross-platform multiplayer, and the game FAQ says crossplay between PC and consoles is enabled by default but can be turned off. If players on different platforms cannot join one another, check whether crossplay is disabled in the relevant game or platform settings. Crossplay being available does not remove each player’s platform-specific online access requirements.
  3. Use the online party and race options. Party size and the maximum field size are different limits. The FAQ describes online parties of up to three players at the time it was checked. The FAQ also describes a planned increase to six players in a future update aimed at the first weeks after launch; that is a plan, not a confirmed current limit. Race modes can have larger fields, with open slots filled by AI racers.
  4. Allow for matchmaking conditions. If a two-player party starts a new Tour or Quick Race, the FAQ says a third unique player outside the party must also be searching before a new match can begin. Wait for matchmaking to find that player, or for the party to be placed in an event with open spaces. Matchmaking prioritizes the same region and can look across regions if needed.
  5. If a supported online feature still fails, check known issues and report the defect. Look at the game’s maintained known-issues post. If the problem is not listed, submit a report through the game’s customer support form with the platform, what you were trying to do, and what happened. The support route is for defects in supported features, not a way to request or unlock split-screen.

Before joining, it helps to agree on what each player is trying to do: form an online party, enter a particular race type, or simply find an online event at the same time. The FAQ gives limits for parties and race fields, but it does not provide a guaranteed matchmaking wait time. If a party is waiting for a race to form, give matchmaking time to find players under the conditions the FAQ describes rather than treating the delay as proof that local multiplayer has failed.

Online party size is not the same as race capacity

The figures below are from the game FAQ checked October 11, 2026. They describe the FAQ’s account at that time and may change. “Party” means the players grouped together online; a race can have more spaces, with AI filling unoccupied slots. A race that supports a large field does not mean that the same number of friends can be grouped into one party.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Online option Player capacity described What to know
Online party Up to 3 players currently, according to the FAQ The FAQ described a planned increase to 6 in a future update aimed at the first weeks after launch; it did not establish that the increase had already happened.
Quick Race Up to 12 players A two-player party starting a new Quick Race may need a third unique player outside the party to be searching before the event begins. AI racers fill unoccupied slots.
Multiplayer Tour Up to 12 players A two-player party starting a new Tour may need a third unique player outside the party to be searching before the event begins. AI racers fill unoccupied slots.
Quick Podrace Up to 8 players AI racers fill unoccupied slots.
Podracer Tour Up to 8 players AI racers fill unoccupied slots.

Xbox’s store listing, checked October 11, 2026, separately lists online multiplayer for 2–12 players. That listing does not change the FAQ’s distinction between an online party and the capacity of particular race modes. It also is not evidence of split-screen: the listing refers to online multiplayer.

For a pair of friends, the key implication is that a two-person party and a two-player race are not necessarily the same thing. In a new Tour or Quick Race, the FAQ’s matchmaking condition calls for a third unique person outside the party to be searching. “Unique” matters: the needed player is not simply another controller added locally to one of the two players’ devices. The FAQ does not say that adding a local second player is possible, and it expressly rules out split-screen.

The race-field figures are maximums, not a promise that every event immediately fills with human players. According to the FAQ, AI racers can occupy unfilled slots. Thus, a 12-player mode can have a larger capacity than the party that friends use to queue, and a race may include AI rather than twelve human players. For Podrace options, the described maximum is eight, also with AI filling open slots.

  • PS Remote Play requires Remote Play App connected to Wi-Fi, PS4 or PS5 console with the latest system software and compatible game. Version 4.0 of the Remote Play App on iOS and iPadOS or version 4.1 on macOS is required for games to be playable with the controller over Bluetooth.

What to check when online play does not work

Your friend cannot join across platforms

Steam lists cross-platform multiplayer, and the FAQ says crossplay between PC and consoles is on by default but can be turned off. Check that crossplay has not been disabled. Also confirm both players can access online multiplayer on their platform; Xbox console online play has a separate subscription requirement.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Cross-platform support and split-screen are separate features. Crossplay concerns players using different platforms meeting online; it does not make one console or PC support two local racers on a shared display. If one friend is on PC and another on console, crossplay is the relevant compatibility setting. If two people are sitting at one console and want separate views on the same screen, the feature is unsupported regardless of whether crossplay is on.

Steam lists online PvP and cross-platform multiplayer, while the FAQ specifically describes crossplay between PC and consoles as enabled by default but switchable. Check the current settings if you or your friend previously changed them. The available facts do not specify menu names or a particular sequence of button presses, so use the in-game or platform settings available in your version rather than looking for a particular unverified path.

A two-player party cannot start a new Tour or Quick Race

This can be a matchmaking constraint rather than a broken controller or local-play setting. The FAQ says a third unique player outside the two-person party must also be searching before a new event starts. Keep matchmaking active or wait for an event with open spaces.

In practical terms, check whether the issue is limited to starting a fresh Tour or Quick Race with exactly two party members. The FAQ calls out that case specifically. It does not say that every online activity requires the same third-player condition, so do not assume the same limit applies to Quick Podrace or Podracer Tour. The stated rule is about a two-player party starting a new Tour or Quick Race.

If the party waits and matchmaking still does not start, remember that matchmaking prioritizes the same region first and may search across regions if needed. The FAQ gives no fixed duration for this process. A pause may be a matchmaking delay rather than evidence that the second controller is disconnected or that the game is trying to launch a local event.

Matchmaking takes longer than expected

The FAQ says matchmaking first prioritizes players in the same region and can match across regions if needed. It does not give a guaranteed wait time. A delay by itself therefore does not establish that the game is malfunctioning.

For troubleshooting, distinguish waiting for an online match from failing to access a feature altogether. A missing split-screen menu is expected. A slow search for a supported online race is a separate issue. If the online search never works, check the known-issues post and, if the problem is not listed, report it to support. Avoid using the lack of a local race as a reason to repeatedly reconnect devices or alter the display.

A supported feature is broken in another way

Check the maintained known-issues post for a listed problem. For an issue that is not listed, use the customer support form to report it. The game FAQ directs players to support for bugs, and the known-issues post also advises reporting unlisted issues.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A useful report should explain what platform you are using, which online option you were trying to access, what you expected to happen, and what happened instead. Include whether the problem involves joining across platforms or starting a specific race type, since those details help distinguish a crossplay problem from the two-player Tour or Quick Race matchmaking condition. Do not report an absent split-screen toggle as a defect that support can enable: the FAQ identifies split-screen as unsupported.

Choosing between online play and local play

If you are deciding whether online multiplayer can stand in for couch play, compare the practical differences before making plans:

  • Internet access: Online multiplayer requires players to use the online route. If someone wants to play without joining an online session, the documented multiplayer alternative will not meet that preference.
  • Platform compatibility: Cross-platform multiplayer is listed by Steam, and the FAQ says crossplay between PC and consoles is on by default but can be turned off. Confirm that the players’ platforms and crossplay settings suit the group.
  • Online access requirements: Xbox console online multiplayer requires Game Pass Essential, Premium, or Ultimate according to the Xbox listing checked October 11, 2026. The subscription is sold separately; confirm current regional terms before relying on that information.
  • Group size: The online party limit described by the FAQ was three players, with a planned increase to six. Mode capacities differ: up to 12 for Quick Race and Multiplayer Tour, and up to eight for Quick Podrace and Podracer Tour. Check which limit applies to your plan.
  • Shared-screen preference: Online competition is not local split-screen. If everyone wants to play from one console or PC while sharing a display, the FAQ says this game does not offer that feature.

Those comparisons can prevent a frustrating purchase or setup attempt. Someone who primarily wants online races with friends may find crossplay and the online party useful, subject to platform requirements and matchmaking. Someone whose must-have feature is local split-screen should not buy an extra controller or another copy expecting it to appear. The game’s physical or digital edition does not change the stated lack of split-screen support.

Would another controller, display, or game copy help?

No. A second controller, a different display, a console or PC upgrade, a repair utility, or another copy of the game cannot add a mode the game does not support. Buying the game physically or digitally does not enable local split-screen. Consider online play only if it suits your needs and you meet its platform requirements; if shared-screen local racing is essential, this game does not provide it according to its FAQ.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

This is why buying a troubleshooting product is not a sensible fix. There is no verified accessory, display configuration, repair tool, or hardware upgrade that turns the unsupported mode on. A replacement controller would only address a controller fault in a supported activity. A larger screen would change how you view an image, not whether the game has a local multiplayer mode. A second game copy also does not create split-screen; it would only be relevant to an online setup if each player otherwise needs access to the game, and it is not a local-play unlock.

Game and source timing

STAR WARS: Galactic Racer launched worldwide on October 6, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, according to StarWars.com’s April 30, 2026 announcement. No. A second controller cannot add an unsupported game mode. Reconnect or replace a controller only if a supported online feature is also failing to recognize it.

How can I race with a friend instead?

Use online multiplayer. Check that both players can access online play, confirm crossplay is enabled if you are on different platforms, and choose an online race option. Xbox console online multiplayer requires Game Pass Essential, Premium, or Ultimate according to the Xbox listing checked October 11, 2026.

Why can’t a two-player party start a new Tour or Quick Race?

The FAQ says a third unique player outside the party must also be searching before a new Tour or Quick Race can begin. Matchmaking prioritizes the same region and can search across regions if needed.

How many friends can join an online party or race?

The FAQ described parties of up to three players at the time checked October 11, 2026, and a planned increase to six in a future update aimed at the first weeks after launch. It describes Quick Race and Multiplayer Tour for up to 12 players, and Quick Podrace and Podracer Tour for up to eight; AI racers fill unoccupied slots.

What should I do if online multiplayer is genuinely broken?

Check the maintained known-issues post. If your supported feature problem is not listed, submit a report using the game’s customer support form. That route reports defects; it cannot unlock split-screen.

Should I buy another controller, display, or copy to fix split-screen?

No. The FAQ says the mode is unsupported, and no such purchase can add it. Buy or use the game only if its online options suit your needs.

The Bottom Line

There is no split-screen or local co-op fix for STAR WARS: Galactic Racer because split-screen multiplayer is unsupported. Skip controller and display troubleshooting for that feature. To race with friends, use online multiplayer, check crossplay and platform access, and account for party limits and matchmaking conditions. For a genuine fault in a supported feature, consult the known-issues post and report an unlisted bug through customer support.
