If a Snipping Tool capture seems to disappear, first check the app’s configured Screenshots folder. If the snip is still open, use Save as to choose a location and filename. For recurring trouble, try Windows’ app repair options; meanwhile, Windows+Shift+S lets you preserve a capture by pasting it from the clipboard into another app.

1. Check the Screenshots folder and automatic-save setting

Microsoft says a captured snip is automatically saved to the Screenshots folder. In Snipping Tool, open See More > Settings to check whether automatic saving is enabled and which folder is set as the default. The save behavior and default folder can be changed there.
