Work through the low-risk checks below before deleting a download or using Safe Mode; none of these steps guarantees a faster connection.
1. Check PlayStation Network status
Before changing router settings, check the PlayStation Network status page for alerts affecting the PlayStation Store or other services. If a relevant service is down or under maintenance, wait for it to return and try again; local network changes will not resolve a service-side outage. PlayStation puts this check first in its stuck-download troubleshooting.

2. Restart a download that will not start
Use this reset if an item will not begin downloading or has stopped progressing—not as a routine fix for every download that is simply slow but continuing.
- Open Downloads/Uploads from the PS5 Control Center.
- Select the affected item and choose Pause, then Resume.
- If it still will not proceed, select Cancel and Delete, then start the download again from your Game Library.
These are PlayStation’s recommended steps for a download that will not start. The same support page recommends testing the console’s connection: open Settings > Network > Connection Status > Test Internet Connection.

3. Check the connection between your PS5 and router
A connection test can help distinguish a local connectivity problem from a queue or service issue. Restart the PS5, then consider whether the console’s connection to the router is reliable.
Ethernet or Wi-Fi?

If you do not have a suitable cable and can place the console near the router, an Ethernet cable such as Cat6 is one way to make a wired connection; Cat6 is not a PlayStation requirement. For a PS5 server-connection error, PlayStation also advises turning off the modem and router, waiting at least five minutes, restarting them, and updating router firmware through the router manufacturer. Is another device or Wi-Fi issue involved?
As additional isolation checks, see whether Wi-Fi works on other devices, pause downloads on them temporarily, or disconnect devices you do not need. If the router offers 5 GHz Wi-Fi, trying it is another option. These suggestions appear in PlayStation’s Remote Play connection troubleshooting; that page concerns Remote Play, not game-download requirements. Its bandwidth figures should not be treated as a benchmark for PS5 downloads.

4. Confirm there is enough free storage
A game or update may fail if the console lacks available space. In the Game Library, open the title’s product details and check its minimum free-space requirement. Compare it with available space under Settings > Storage. PlayStation includes this check in its download troubleshooting instructions.

5. If an update will not install, check software and reinstall only if needed
For an update installation problem, PlayStation’s published sequence is to test the internet connection, restart the PS5, and make sure its system software is current. If the update still will not install, deleting and reinstalling the affected game is a later option; it is not the first step for an ordinary slow download. Follow PlayStation’s PS5 game update troubleshooting.
6. Use the displayed error code rather than guessing
Different error codes point to different kinds of problems. PlayStation’s PS5 error-code index describes NP-102947-3 as an internet connection that is too slow or unstable to perform an update, while its index also lists distinct codes for maintenance, server communication, storage, and update installation. Look up the code actually shown on your console instead of assuming that a stalled progress bar means your home internet is slow.

7. Try Safe Mode after basic checks fail
If downloads or updates remain problematic after checking service status, the queue, connection, storage, restart, and system software, PlayStation lists Safe Mode > Clear Cache and Rebuild Database as a further troubleshooting step. Follow the current instructions on PlayStation’s support pages for entering Safe Mode and choosing the option. If the issue continues, contact PlayStation Support with the displayed error code, steps that reproduce the problem, and the time you encountered it. Screenshots or video may also help support staff.

8. Let downloads run while you are away
Rest Mode can allow eligible downloads to continue while you are away; it is a convenience, not a speed boost. The PS5 must stay connected to the internet, and automatic updates must be configured.

- Go to Settings > System > Power Saving > Features Available in Rest Mode and enable Stay Connected to the Internet.
- Go to Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings > Automatic Updates and enable Auto-Download or Auto-Install.
Auto-Download can be enabled without Auto-Install if you prefer to defer installation until you resume a suspended game. See PlayStation’s automatic update instructions.
