Start by separating a Siri activation problem from a smart-home accessory problem. If Siri does not respond to ordinary requests, check Siri settings and internet access. If Siri hears you but an accessory does not respond in the Home app, troubleshoot that accessory or the home network. The right fix depends on whether one device, several devices, remote control, or HomePod itself is affected.
First, identify where the failure occurs
Try the same accessory in the Home app, then note what happens when you ask Siri. This quick split helps avoid resetting or replacing a device before you know which part is failing.

If Siri does not hear or answer you

Confirm the iPhone or iPad has internet access.

Open Settings and select Siri or Apple Intelligence & Siri, then Talk & Type to Siri. Labels can vary by software version.

Make sure voice activation using “Siri” or “Hey Siri” is enabled. If it is already on, toggle it off and back on. Complete the voice-recognition setup if prompted by reading the displayed phrases.

Try activating Siri with the device button or type a request. If those methods work but spoken activation does not, the issue is more likely with voice activation or hearing the request than with the smart-home command.

If Siri hears you but you cannot hear a reply, open Siri Responses and select Prefer Spoken Responses. Silence alone does not prove that the command failed.

If the settings are correct but Siri still does not work, restart and update the device. If Siri settings disappear after a restart, Apple notes that some VPN profiles may prevent Siri use; check the profile or consult its provider rather than broadly disabling security protections.

If Siri responds but the accessory does not
Open the Home app and try controlling the same accessory directly. Check whether Home reports “No Response,” whether other devices still work, and whether the manufacturer’s own app can control it. Use the accessory’s configured name and room, then try a simple command or a known scene. Apple gives examples such as “Turn on the lights,” “Turn on the fan in the office,” and “Siri, set my reading scene.” Available Siri features and commands vary by language, country, and region, as Apple explains in Control your home with Siri.

If one accessory or manufacturer is affected
Work through these checks in order, testing the accessory in Home after each one:

Turn on Bluetooth on the Apple device you use to control the home.

Restart the affected accessory. For a battery-powered device, remove and reinsert its batteries if applicable.

Check the manufacturer’s app for the accessory’s status and firmware updates. If it fails there too, use the maker’s reset and support instructions.

Restart any third-party bridge or home hub by unplugging it and reconnecting it.

Only after the earlier checks, remove and re-add the accessory using the manufacturer’s reset instructions. Removing it can mean setting it up again.

If it remains unresponsive, contact the manufacturer.

If several accessories or brands are affected
A broad failure points toward shared software or network conditions rather than one accessory. For local control, connect the iPhone, iPad, or Mac to the same Wi-Fi network as the accessories.

Update the controlling Apple device, close and reopen Home, and check accessory and manufacturer-app status. Turn on Bluetooth and install available manufacturer firmware updates.

If a Thread accessory is involved, follow the five-minute power disconnect and ten-minute stabilization wait described above.

If devices still fail, restart in layers: modem and router; third-party bridges and all home hubs; affected accessories; then the iPhone, iPad, or Mac.

If connectivity remains suspect, check whether a VPN or third-party security app is interfering. Avoid disabling protections broadly; consult the relevant provider if you need help checking its network settings.

If accessories remain unresponsive, contact Apple Support.

Remote control requires a home hub. Apple identifies HomePod, HomePod mini, and Apple TV as home hub options in its Siri help. A hub matters for remote access; it is not a general fix for Siri settings, an offline accessory, poor Wi-Fi coverage, or a faulty bridge. Check Apple’s home-control requirements if you are unsure whether your setup supports remote control.
If HomePod itself shows “No Response”

Open Home and inspect any alert on the HomePod.

Open the HomePod’s settings and check its Wi-Fi signal. Apple considers two bars or fewer weak. Move it closer to the router and reduce possible wireless interference.

Restart HomePod from its settings. If no restart option appears, unplug it and reconnect power.

If it still does not respond, Apple advises resetting it; if the issue continues, service may be needed.
See Apple’s HomePod response troubleshooting. HomePod supports some captive-portal Wi-Fi networks that require additional sign-in, such as certain hotel or university networks, but this is a special case rather than a likely household fix.
