If the device has a card, check its settings and the Background light control priority; if it is missing, verify support for the exact model and reconnect it.
First, check whether Windows detects the device
Open Settings > Personalization > Dynamic Lighting. Supported devices appear as cards, and a device card may have controls that differ from the global settings. Check both the affected device and the page-wide controls.

Dynamic Lighting works with supported HID LampArray devices; having RGB or LED lighting alone does not guarantee compatibility. Microsoft lists device categories such as keyboards, mice, game controllers, headsets and chassis, but support depends on the particular device and its implementation. See Microsoft’s Dynamic Lighting support guidance and Microsoft’s device documentation; check the exact model rather than assuming that every product from a supported brand works.

If Windows shows no compatible devices, that message indicates a detection or compatibility symptom, not by itself a hardware fault. Reconnect the device and check its model’s current support information. If it uses USB, try its original port: Microsoft notes that moving a device to another USB port can make it appear as a different device for background lighting settings.

Check which app has priority
If the device appears but Windows’ brightness or effects controls have no effect, expand Background light control in Dynamic Lighting settings. Move the app you want to control the lighting higher in the list. Microsoft identifies a higher-priority background RGB controller as a likely reason its sliders do not change a device’s behavior.
For example, if you want the manufacturer’s software to manage the affected device, put that software ahead of other background controllers. Then check the device card and test its lighting controls again.

Choose Windows or the manufacturer’s app for the affected device
Two control paths may compete: Windows Dynamic Lighting and the device maker’s RGB software. Choose which one should manage the particular device, rather than assuming a single setting will fix every product.

- Give control to the manufacturer’s software: Turn off Dynamic Lighting for that device if the per-device option is available, or turn Dynamic Lighting off globally. Prefer the device-specific option if you want Windows to continue controlling other supported devices.
Manufacturer guidance reflects product-specific conflicts: Fractal says Windows control overrides lighting settings in its Adjust Pro web application; Razer recommends enabling Chroma RGB in Synapse and turning Dynamic Lighting off when Razer effects are unresponsive or incorrect; and ASUS describes Windows taking control and recommends placing Armoury Crate first in Background light control. Follow the guidance for your specific product, since the available settings and steps vary.

If the RGB is in an internal drive, check its utility
Lighting on an internal drive can also be affected by Windows. Seagate’s FireCuda Toolkit manual says Dynamic Lighting may override RGB customizations made in Toolkit. If Toolkit settings stop applying, check Windows control and the drive’s own software before treating the lighting as a hardware failure.
If the device still will not respond
If detection, priority and controller choice do not restore lighting control, use the manufacturer’s support path for the exact model. The available guidance does not establish one universal repair sequence for firmware or hardware failures, so avoid applying another product’s firmware or reset steps to your device.
