When a restaurant coupon or promo code fails, check the offer’s terms against your account, location, order channel and cart before trying again. Expiry, excluded items, minimum spend and rules against combining offers can all prevent a discount from applying. The exact rules depend on the restaurant and promotion.
Check the offer terms first
Open the offer details rather than relying on a banner or a code copied from elsewhere. Check the expiration date and any redemption cap, then look for these conditions:
- Eligible items: The deal may apply only to specified products or combinations.
- Minimum spend: Confirm the qualifying subtotal, and check whether the offer defines which charges count.
- Location: Some offers are limited to participating restaurants or particular regions.
- Ordering channel: An offer may require the restaurant’s app or website and exclude in-store, catering or third-party delivery orders.
- Use limits: Check for per-person, per-visit, per-account or total redemption limits.
- Combining offers: Look for language that prohibits using the discount with another coupon or promotion.

Follow a step-by-step checkout check
- Confirm the offer is still available. Review its dates, participating locations and any redemption cap in the offer details.
- Use an eligible ordering route. Check whether the deal is for in-store ordering, the restaurant’s own app or website, or a named delivery platform. For example, Chipotle’s specific 2026 Build Your Own offer requires ordering through its website or mobile app and excludes in-restaurant, catering and third-party platform orders. - Sign in to the right account. Some offers are tied to a rewards account. Jollibee says app offers appear at checkout for customers signed in to a Rewards account; McDonald’s recommends checking login and location settings for deal issues. Jollibee Help Center · McDonald’s Deals Help.
- Match the cart to the offer. Add the required items and meet the stated subtotal. Arby’s support advises checking the products in the bag and criteria such as a minimum subtotal. Arby’s Contact Us.
- Remove conflicting discounts. If the terms prohibit combining offers, remove another coupon or promotion and try the eligible deal by itself. Chipotle’s cited terms and Jollibee’s general help describe non-combination restrictions. Uber Eats also explains that restaurant-specific promo codes may have their own rules. - Apply or select the deal at the required stage. Use the app’s specified control rather than entering a code in an unrelated field. For McDonald’s Mobile Order & Pay deals, help directs customers to use “Add to Mobile Order” when that control is available. McDonald’s Deals Help.
If a restaurant deal QR code will not scan
For McDonald’s “Scan at Restaurant” deals, the selected scan code is active for 15 minutes. If the QR code will not scan, McDonald’s says to give the displayed four-character code to a crew member at the counter or drive-through. Follow the specific restaurant’s instructions if you are using another chain’s offer; this fallback is McDonald’s process, not a universal rule. McDonald’s Deals Help.
Compare offers before choosing one
When deciding between deals, compare the conditions that affect whether you can use them and what you will save. Do not compare headline discounts alone.

When to contact the restaurant or platform
If the offer still will not apply after you have checked its terms and corrected the order, contact the restaurant or the ordering platform. Share the offer screen or terms, selected location, ordering channel, cart contents, whether you are signed in and the exact error message. These details help identify which eligibility condition is failing. Whether staff or support can resolve the problem depends on the offer and their policies; an override is not guaranteed.

Chipotle’s 2026 Build Your Own offer
Chipotle’s published terms say the Build Your Own offer is valid for orders placed and fulfilled from January 6 through December 31, 2026, or until 100,000 redemptions, whichever comes first. It requires code TRYBYOC and an order through order.chipotle.com or the Chipotle mobile app. The terms limit it to one discount per transaction, exclude catering, in-restaurant and third-party platform orders, and prohibit combining it with other coupons or promotions.
