Evaluate enterprise AI supply chain planning platforms by testing whether they support your actual planning decisions, respect real-world constraints, work with your data and operating systems, and improve measurable outcomes against your current process. A polished AI demonstration is not enough: require each vendor to work through the same representative data, disruption scenarios, and approval workflows, then assess the evidence alongside implementation and adoption effort.
Start with the decisions your planning teams need to make
Before comparing product features, define the decisions the platform must support, who makes them, and at what planning horizon. An enterprise may need help with some or all of demand sensing and forecasting, supply and capacity planning, inventory and replenishment, production scheduling, sales and operations planning (S&OP), order backlog, and collaboration with trading partners. These functions overlap, but a platform’s coverage of one does not establish that it can handle the others.

Map the decisions to the people and systems involved. For example, a forecast may inform procurement, production, and inventory choices; a capacity constraint may force a trade-off among customer orders; an approved plan must then reach the operational system where it can be acted on. Record the required planning horizons, decision cadence, business rules, and exceptions before you invite vendors to demonstrate their products.

Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- Network and constraints: List sites, suppliers, materials, capacity limits, lead times, substitutions, and other rules that change what is feasible.
- Users and approvals: Identify planners and stakeholders who create, review, challenge, or approve plans, including the decisions that must remain under human control.
- Systems and handoffs: Identify the ERP, manufacturing, procurement, inventory, logistics, and finance workflows that provide inputs or must receive approved outputs.
- Success measures: Choose a baseline and the outcomes that matter to your organization, such as forecast error, service or availability, inventory exposure, expiry or write-offs, schedule adherence, planner hours, and response time during disruption.
Assess each platform across six dimensions
1. Planning scope and constraint fidelity
Check whether the platform represents your real network, planning horizons, material and capacity constraints, lead times, substitutions, and business rules. Ask planners to inspect a proposed plan, see why it was recommended, and compare feasible alternatives. A forecast or optimization result has limited value if it ignores a constraint that determines whether the plan can be executed.

2. Data readiness and integration
Establish whether the platform can use your demand, orders, supply, inventory, capacity, shipment, and partner data at the quality and refresh cadence your decisions require. Check how it connects to the systems that create those records and how approved plans return to ERP, manufacturing, procurement, inventory, logistics, or finance workflows.
Integration is also a process issue. Infosys’ published transformation cases describe harmonizing fragmented data and connecting planning with execution, as well as work on process definition and change management. Treat those cases as evidence of implementation considerations—not as neutral product comparisons.

3. AI quality and human control
Test forecasts and recommendations on representative historical periods and on live or replayed disruptions. Compare results with your existing method by product segment and planning horizon; a single aggregate score can conceal where a model helps or harms. Examine how the system communicates uncertainty, explains recommendations, surfaces exceptions, and records the reasons for overrides.
Clarify exactly which actions the product can automate and where planner approval is required. Oracle describes model selection, forecast evaluation, exception summaries, recommendations, and guided workflows; its published product FAQ also says business judgment and exception handling still require human review. Verify how those controls work in the configuration you would buy rather than assuming that an “AI-assisted” label means autonomous planning.

4. Usability, collaboration, and auditability
Script demonstrations around real planner tasks: identify an exception, understand its causes, coordinate with another team or partner, compare alternatives, and move an approved decision into the next workflow. Include role-specific usability, collaboration, audit trails, and the ability to challenge a recommendation. A system that produces a useful answer but makes it hard to understand or act on may not fit the operating process.
5. Implementation and adoption
Assess data migration, process harmonization, integration complexity, global-versus-local process fit, training, governance, and change management alongside the software. Infosys’ oil and gas and Novartis case descriptions treat vendor selection, process definition, data readiness, technology integration, and change management as core transformation work. Ask vendors and implementation partners to identify responsibilities, dependencies, and the organizational effort required for your specific environment.

6. Measured outcomes and commercial fit
Agree on the baseline, measurement window, population, and comparison method before a pilot begins. For every claimed benefit, require the vendor to say what metric changed, for which products or operations, over what period, and against what comparator. Evaluate total cost and contract terms through your own procurement process; the published material considered here does not establish a generally applicable price or return-on-investment range.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteRun a proof of concept that can expose weak claims
Give bidders equivalent inputs and constraints, and use a slice of the network that includes difficult cases—not only clean, stable demand. The purpose is to determine whether the platform works with your conditions and users, not to recreate a vendor’s prepared showcase.

- Select a representative test slice. Include difficult SKUs, variable demand, meaningful capacity limits, supplier delays, and at least one disruption scenario.
- Agree on the baseline and measures. Document the current method and choose relevant measures before the test, such as forecast performance by horizon, plan feasibility, inventory and service trade-offs, time from exception to decision, and manual adjustments.
- Provide equivalent conditions. Give each bidder the same data, planning assumptions, constraints, scenarios, and evaluation window. Record exclusions or data transformations so they are visible.
- Replay decisions and disruptions. Compare forecasts with the current method, inspect whether proposed plans satisfy constraints, and see how the system responds when assumptions change.
- Observe real workflows. Have intended users review exceptions, question recommendations, collaborate, and record their decisions. Track acceptance, override, and rejection of recommendations, along with the reasons.
- Verify the operating path. Check data lineage and refresh behavior, security and access controls, audit logs, integrations, and how approved plans reach operational systems.
- Review the evidence together. Separate measured results from demonstrations or vendor claims, and document where performance depends on data quality, configuration, manual work, or process changes.

The examples below illustrate different parts of the evaluation. They do not provide a neutral ranking or prove that a platform is the best fit for a particular enterprise.
| Example | What the published material describes | How to use it in an evaluation |
|---|---|---|
| Oracle Fusion Cloud Supply Chain Planning | Oracle describes demand management, supply planning, S&OP, collaboration, inventory, scheduling, analytics, and AI-assisted workflows. | Use it to understand the scope of an integrated suite. The feature description does not establish comparative superiority or prove that each capability fits your processes. |
| Firstshift | Firstshift’s vendor page describes demand sensing and forecasting, inventory and replenishment planning, S&OP, agents and copilots, and a cloud-native architecture. | Treat these as vendor descriptions. Test integration, controls, usability, and outcomes using your data and workflows. |
| Sight Machine, OptiMind, and Microsoft Foundry | Microsoft’s 2026 customer story describes AI-assisted production scheduling at a major beverage manufacturer. It reports a 75% reduction in non-value-added production time and a production-capacity increase of more than 5% for that case. | This is relevant to scheduling that responds to live factory conditions, not a comparison of all enterprise planning modules. The reported figures are case-specific, not typical or guaranteed results. |
| SAP Integrated Business Planning (IBP) and Blue Diamond Growers | Accenture describes an implementation connected to on-premises SAP, with scenario planning and a daily planning cycle during the pandemic. Its page reports a 10% forecast-accuracy improvement within the first six months after launch; the page’s year is not stated. | Use the account to frame questions about integration and scenario planning. The reported result belongs to that implementation and is not a general performance expectation. |
| Infosys transformation examples | Infosys describes vendor selection, process definition, data readiness, technology integration, and change management in an oil and gas case. Its Novartis case describes planning harmonization across 17 ERP systems, approximately $6 billion in inventory, and more than $400 million in write-off exposure. For the same Novartis program, Infosys reports 100+ workshop users, 247 business requirements, and 40+ key design decisions. The inspected pages do not state a year for these Novartis figures. | The figures describe the scale and design context of one transformation; they are not platform outcomes. The cases can help frame questions about fragmented systems, implementation scope, and organizational change. |
Case studies are useful for generating questions, but their reported measures are tied to their stated settings. The cited material provides no neutral cross-vendor benchmark suitable for ranking the named products.
Turn the evaluation into a buying decision
Use the same scorecard and evidence standard for every bidder. Score each dimension against documented requirements, and distinguish three things in your notes: what you observed in the test, what the vendor claims, and what remains unverified. A short list should reflect fit with your constraints, data, workflows, and implementation capacity—not the largest feature list.
Quick Recap
- Reject a feature-only comparison: A broad module list is not proof that the platform handles your constraints or supports your end-to-end process.
- Make data and execution part of the decision: Confirm that required data can arrive at a useful cadence and that approved plans can reach the systems where work happens.
- Keep accountability explicit: Document which recommendations are advisory, which actions can be automated, and which decisions require a named human approver.
- Use your own baseline: Accept outcome claims only when the metric, population, time window, and comparison method are clear enough to interpret.
- Include the transformation: Factor process harmonization, governance, training, integration, and adoption into the decision alongside product capability and commercial terms.
