Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWindows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstall“Authentication failed” does not identify one confirmed Reg-suit or AWS failure by itself. Check the S3 publisher’s configured bucket, the identity used by the same process that runs Reg-suit, the permissions for the failed S3 operation, and any custom S3 client options. Use the complete AWS SDK error and job logs to decide which one needs fixing.
What the error can—and cannot—tell you
Reg-suit’s S3 publisher retrieves earlier snapshot images and publishes current snapshots and comparison reports to an S3 bucket. The CI identity running the publisher therefore needs access to that bucket. Reg-suit’s documentation does not map the exact phrase “authentication failed” to one specific cause, so do not assume it means only that an access key is wrong. The full AWS SDK error, failed operation, and effective identity are needed to distinguish rejected credentials from an accepted identity that lacks permission or another configuration issue.

Start with the configuration and identity checks below, then compare the failed operation with the plugin’s documented S3 actions. Reg-suit’s S3 publisher documentation describes the plugin, its settings, and required operations; the Reg-suit project documentation covers configuration more broadly.
Fix it in a controlled order
-
Verify the S3 publisher and resolved bucket
Open the
pluginssection ofregconfig.json. Confirm the S3 publisher is enabled and that itsbucketNameresolves to the intended bucket. Reg-suit supports environment-value interpolation in plugin settings, so check that any referenced environment variable is present in the process that invokes Reg-suit—not merely in a developer’s interactive shell.#1 Best Overall
Do not print secret values while checking configuration. It is usually enough to verify that required variables are set and that the resolved bucket name matches the expected target.
-
Identify the credentials available to the Reg-suit process
The Reg-suit demo shows credentials supplied as
AWS_ACCESS_KEY_IDandAWS_SECRET_ACCESS_KEY, or through a[default]profile in~/.aws/credentials. These are documented examples, not a requirement to use long-lived keys in every environment. In CI, inspect the identity using the platform’s safe identity-inspection mechanism and confirm that the job’s Reg-suit process inherits the intended credentials and role context.Rank #2
A local test can succeed under your shell’s identity while CI fails under a different identity. Conversely, a CI step that sets credentials may not help if the Reg-suit invocation runs in another container, job, or environment without them. Never expose secret values in build logs.

-
Match the failed action to S3 permissions
The S3 publisher README documents these actions:
s3:DeleteObjects3:GetObjects3:GetObjectAcls3:PutObjects3:PutObjectAcls3:ListBucket
This is a reference to plugin operations, not proof that a particular failed run is missing any one permission. Find the operation named in the full error or logs, then compare it with the effective identity’s policies and applicable bucket-level access rules. Grant only the permissions supported by the failed operation and your access model; avoid broad access as a diagnostic shortcut.
-
Review custom S3 client settings
The plugin accepts optional
sdkOptionsfor its S3 client. If your project sets them, check that the values are appropriate for the environment and target bucket. The Reg-suit documentation does not establish that a region or SDK-option mismatch specifically causes this exact error text, so treat these as configuration checks—not a confirmed diagnosis. -
Capture enough detail to choose the repair
Retain the complete error object and relevant job-log lines, including the failed operation and request context, while redacting secrets. Record which identity the CI process used and which bucket the resolved configuration targeted. Those details let you distinguish a credential problem from missing authorization or a configuration mismatch without guessing from the short error phrase.

Choose a credential path that fits the job
Reg-suit’s example documents environment credentials and a shared credentials file. Neither is established as universally best. Choose and troubleshoot based on where the job runs, which identity it selects, how credentials are provisioned and rotated, and whether the Reg-suit process can access the relevant configuration.
Best Value
| Path | What to verify | Useful when |
|---|---|---|
| Environment variables | Confirm the variables are set for the actual Reg-suit process and correspond to the intended identity; keep values out of logs. | The job or runtime provisions credentials through its environment. |
~/.aws/credentials default profile |
Confirm the file is available to the process, contains the expected [default] profile, and is not being confused with a different user or container’s home directory. |
The runtime is configured to use the shared credentials file shown in the Reg-suit example. |
Common failure patterns and next checks
- It works locally but fails in CI: verify the identity and environment visible to the CI process, not just the credentials configured in your terminal.
- The job reaches S3 but one operation fails: use the operation in the full error to check the corresponding documented action and bucket access controls.
- The wrong bucket is being accessed: inspect the resolved
bucketNameand environment interpolation in the job’s effective configuration. - The error still says only “authentication failed” in a summary: inspect earlier log lines or the full AWS SDK error. The summary alone does not establish whether credentials, authorization, or another setting is responsible.
- The project has custom client settings: review
sdkOptionsagainst the intended environment, but do not treat a region mismatch as a proven explanation for this exact message.

If your work also needs website screenshots, ScreenshotNeo is a screenshot API and MCP server for developers. A single GET request can return a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. The API accepts a URL, and the options include full-page captures, CSS-selector element captures, device viewports, custom headers, and cookies. Its MCP tools let AI agents take screenshots, inspect page information, and capture PDFs.
For example, using cURL:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options. ScreenshotNeo removes cookie and consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; those steps can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers identify the page verdict and billing status. The free plan includes 1,000 shots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots.
