Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallCrashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteIf a PS5 Pro game looks blurry, shimmers, flickers, or shows graphic noise, first compare the same scene with Enhance PSSR Image Quality on and off. Then check the console’s output resolution and HDMI signal path. The PSSR toggle is available on PS5 Pro consoles in the CFI-7000 model group; it is not a general PS5 setting, and changing it is a test rather than a guaranteed fix.
What PS5 AI upscaling is—and which consoles use it
Sony calls its PS5 Pro upscaling feature PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR). It uses an AI library to analyze game images pixel by pixel as it upscales them, according to Mark Cerny, Lead Architect for PS5 and PS5 Pro, in a February 27, 2026 PlayStation.Blog post. That post said PSSR had been used to boost the effective resolution of over 50 PS5 Pro titles as of that date. This is a title count, not evidence of how often artifacts occur or a guarantee about image quality in a particular game.

The system-level Enhance PSSR Image Quality option is available on consoles in the CFI-7000 model group and is on by default. Sony says it can improve image quality in certain compatible games; it does not apply to every game or establish that PSSR is the cause of every visual problem.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteWork through the checks in this order
- Confirm the game and symptom. Make sure you are using a PS5 Pro and a game that supports PSSR. Note the game’s graphics mode and whether the problem began after a game or system update. Check whether it happens in one game or several. A one-game issue may relate to that title’s implementation or update, but does not prove the cause.
- Compare the PSSR image-quality setting. On a CFI-7000 model-group console, open Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output > Enhance PSSR Image Quality. Switch the setting off and compare the same location, camera angle, movement, and game mode. If the image improves, you can leave it off for that game; if not, restore your preferred setting. The toggle is a test, not a universal repair.
- Check the output resolution and display information. Open Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output and inspect the current video signal and connected HDMI device information. Automatic selects the highest resolution the TV supports. For 4K output, Sony says you need a compatible 4K screen and the resolution set to 2160p. This check helps distinguish a console output configuration issue from a game’s image reconstruction.
- If the symptom is flicker, test the transfer rate. In Video Output, try Video Transfer Rate -1 or -2. Sony recommends these options when the screen flickers; limiting output may improve picture stability. They also restrict some high-bandwidth formats, including 4K/120 Hz. This is a flicker troubleshooting step, not a demonstrated fix for blur or every artifact.
- Check the HDMI signal path. Secure both ends of the existing cable, try another suitable HDMI port, and temporarily connect the PS5 Pro directly to the screen rather than through a receiver, soundbar, or capture device. Check the display for a firmware update. Sony recommends the included HDMI 2.1 cable for high-performance features and identifies an Ultra High-Speed HDMI cable rated for 4K/120 Hz in its 4K/120 Hz troubleshooting guidance. A different cable is relevant if connection checks indicate a signal-path problem; it does not improve PSSR’s image reconstruction.
- Keep the similarly named PS4 setting separate. Enhance Image Quality for PS4 Games is a distinct PS5 Pro feature, not the PSSR option for supported PS5 games. Sony says it requires a screen supporting 2160p/60 Hz or 1440p/60 Hz and advises turning it off if unexpected gameplay behavior occurs. See Sony’s PS5 Pro Enhance Image Quality guidance.
Choose the next check by what you see
| Symptom | First check | What it can tell you | Limit or trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Soft or unstable detail in one PSSR-compatible game | Compare Enhance PSSR Image Quality on and off in the same scene | Whether the system toggle changes the visible result in that title | It may not help; behavior can vary by game. |
| Soft output across games or menus | Check the current output signal, resolution, and display capabilities | Whether the console is sending the intended resolution | 4K requires a compatible screen and 2160p output. |
| Flicker or signal instability | Try Video Transfer Rate -1/-2; inspect HDMI connections and display firmware | Whether limiting output or correcting the signal path improves stability | Lower transfer rate limits some high-bandwidth formats, including 4K/120 Hz. |
| Problem across games after settings and connection checks | Contact PlayStation Repairs | Whether official diagnostics identify a console or display issue | Sony’s general picture troubleshooting does not diagnose PSSR-specific defects. |
When to contact PlayStation Repairs
If the picture problem persists across games after checking the PSSR setting, output configuration, and HDMI path, use PlayStation Repairs and hardware troubleshooting for official diagnosis. Persistent artifacts do not, by themselves, establish that the console hardware has failed.
