Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteFirst check whether the blur is limited to one updated game or also appears in the PS5 menus, other games, or video apps. If only one title looks different, compare its graphics modes and check the developer’s update information. If the image looks blurry across multiple sources, check the PS5’s video output and the display/HDMI connection.
Find out whether the blur is game-specific
Open the PS5 home screen and another game or video app. If those look normal and only one title changed after an update, start with that game’s graphics settings. That pattern points to a title-specific setting or update as an area to investigate, but it does not establish the patch as the cause. If several sources look blurry, move on to the console output and display checks below.

Compare the game’s graphics modes
On PS5, open Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings > Game Presets. Where a game supports these options, Performance Mode favors smoother motion and Resolution Mode favors higher graphic quality, as described in Sony’s Game Presets guide.

Change the preset, then relaunch or return to the affected game and compare the same scene. Some games have their own graphics menu with separate quality, performance, upscaling, or sharpness controls; check those as well. The available choices and their effects vary by game, so use the title’s own settings and update notes rather than assuming every PS5 game handles modes the same way.
#1 Best Overall
- Samsung’s 37” 4K UHD Odyssey G7 Curved Gaming Monitor provides spectacular realism.
- 37” 1000R curved display with 4K UHD resolution wraps around the field of vision for next-level gaming.
- VESA DisplayHDR 600 delivers more contrast, with deeper blacks and brighter whites for greater clarity even in dark scenes.
- 165Hz refresh rate and near-instant 1ms response time (GtG) minimizes lag for ultra-smooth gameplay.
Check the PS5’s resolution and output signal
- On the PS5, go to Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output.
- Review Current Video Output Signal to see the signal being sent to the display.
- Check Resolution. Sony says Automatic selects the highest resolution supported by the connected TV. For 4K, the screen must support 4K and the PS5 resolution can be set to 2160p. See Sony’s PS5 resolution guide.
A lower-than-expected output can make the overall image look less detailed, but a console resolution check alone cannot explain a change confined to one game. Compare the output signal with the display’s supported modes and the game’s own options.
Check HDR without treating it as a blur fix
Go to Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output > HDR. On When Supported leaves non-HDR games and apps in SDR; Always On converts them to HDR output. If the picture looks washed out, too dark, or otherwise different, compare these settings and use Adjust HDR to calibrate brightness.

HDR changes how an image is presented; Sony’s guide does not identify it as a cause of spatial blur. Avoid changing HDR or RGB settings at random as a guaranteed fix. Sony advises changing RGB Range only when an HDMI device is not sending RGB range information correctly. Details are in the PS5 resolution and video output guide.
Isolate the HDMI and display path
If menus and multiple games are affected, connect the PS5 directly to the TV or monitor, temporarily removing a soundbar, receiver, or capture device from the path. Check the display for a firmware update and consult its manual for settings required to accept high-resolution signals. Sony includes these checks in its picture and sound troubleshooting guidance.

For a 4K 120 Hz signal issue, check that the display supports the mode, is running current firmware, and that the PS5 is connected to the display’s appropriate HDMI 2.1 port. The TV may require HDMI 2.1 or enhanced-format support to be enabled in its menus. Sony recommends the cable supplied with the console or a suitable Ultra High Speed HDMI cable, with Resolution set to Auto or 2160p and Video Transfer Rate set to Auto. These are checks for a supported signal path, not evidence that a cable caused a game-specific rendering change.
Check for updates before using general troubleshooting
To check whether another game update is available, highlight the game on the PS5 home screen, press the Options button, and select Check for Update. To check console software, open Settings > System > System Software. Sony’s update instructions are available in its PS5 game and system software update guide.

If you are already troubleshooting broader game or system problems, Sony also documents restarting, reinstalling a game, and Safe Mode maintenance. To enter Safe Mode, turn off the console, then hold its power button until the second beep and connect a controller by USB. Clear System Software Cache is listed for system feature issues or performance drops; Rebuild Database scans the drive and recreates the content database. Sony does not present these steps as a specific fix for blur introduced by a game patch, so treat them as general troubleshooting rather than the first response to a single blurry title. See Sony’s Safe Mode guide.

Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →When to contact support
If one game remains blurry after checking its graphics options and the PS5 output, contact that game’s developer through its official support channel. Include the game title, patch version, selected graphics mode, display model, and what changed compared with before the update. That information helps distinguish a game-specific rendering change from a broader display issue.
