If a PS5 game is stuck, queued, or fails to install, start with Downloads/Uploads and PlayStation’s service status, then check storage and network settings. Use the exact error code to choose the right remedy; save Safe Mode maintenance for persistent problems, and avoid reset options unless you have backed up anything you need to keep.
Start with the download queue and PlayStation status
- Open Downloads/Uploads, select the game, and choose Pause, then Resume.
- If it still will not start, select Cancel and Delete. Find the game in Game Library and try downloading it again.
- Check PlayStation Network service status. If there is an alert affecting downloads or gaming services, wait for service to recover before repeatedly changing console settings.
Pausing and resuming is the least disruptive first step. Canceling and deleting removes the current download so you can start it again; it is not the same as resetting the console. PlayStation’s game-download troubleshooting guide covers these queue steps and the checks below.

Check storage before retrying an installation
Compare the game’s required space with the PS5’s available storage. To see the game’s listed size, open Game Library, select the game, choose …, then View Product. Check available capacity at Settings > Storage.
PlayStation advises that an installation may require approximately twice the free space required. This is PlayStation’s support guidance, not a guarantee that every game needs exactly twice its listed size. If there is not enough room, delete or move content you no longer need and check storage again.

If your storage check shows you need more room, you can consider extended storage or a compatible M.2 SSD. Verify PlayStation’s current compatibility requirements before buying a drive; do not assume any particular model will work.
If the code is CE-107872-5
PlayStation defines CE-107872-5 as “There is not enough free space on the console storage.” Check Settings > Storage and make room on the console. The approximate-twice-space guidance can explain why an installation may fail even when the game’s listed download size seems to fit.

- PS Remote Play requires Remote Play App connected to Wi-Fi, PS4 or PS5 console with the latest system software and compatible game. A PS4 or PS5 console with a wired connection via a LAN cable is recommended. Version 4.0 of the Remote Play App on iOS and iPadOS or version 4.1 on macOS is required for games to be playable with the controller over Bluetooth.
Test the network if a download is stalled or an installation fails
Run Settings > Network > Connection Status > Test Internet Connection. If the connection test fails or the download remains stalled, check service status and try the applicable network steps below. For Wi-Fi, moving the console closer to the router and removing obstructions is relevant guidance, though it is not a guaranteed fix for every stalled download.

Update system software and use Safe Mode only if needed
Install the latest PS5 system software before moving to deeper troubleshooting. If queue, storage, and network checks do not resolve a persistent download or installation issue, follow PlayStation’s download troubleshooting guidance for Safe Mode maintenance.
To start Safe Mode, turn the console off, then press and hold the power button; release it after the second beep. Connect the controller by USB and press the PS button. Available options include updating system software, Repair Console Storage, and Clear Cache and Rebuild Database. PlayStation says Repair Console Storage does not erase data. These maintenance choices are distinct from reset options.

- DualSense Wireless Controller Features Built In
- Replaceable Stick Modules and Caps
Restore Default Settings does not delete stored games, apps, screenshots, video clips, or saved data. By contrast, Reset PS5 and Reset PS5 (Reinstall System Software) delete all user data. Back up anything you need before selecting either of those options, and reserve them for later troubleshooting when less disruptive steps have failed. See PlayStation’s Safe Mode guide for the option descriptions.

A missing or locked game may be an account or license problem rather than a failed download. Check that you are signed in to the account that owns the game, review transaction history, and check whether the title is hidden. If the game is shared from another account, review Console Sharing and Offline Play. You can also restore licenses using PlayStation’s license restoration instructions. Look up other error codes and contact support
Error codes can indicate different causes, including network, server, storage, or installation conditions. Search the exact code in PlayStation’s PS5 error-code index rather than applying a fix for a different code.
If the problem continues, contact PlayStation Support. Include the exact error code or message, what you were doing and the steps that reproduce the problem, the date and time it occurred, and a screenshot or video if available.
