What’s actually slowing this PC down?

If a PlayStation Plus game will not download, stalls, fails during installation or update, or appears locked, first identify which symptom you have. Then check PlayStation service status and your game entitlement before retrying the queue, checking storage and connection, or using the console-specific repair steps below.
Identify what is failing and note the error code
A download that never starts, a transfer that stalls, an installation or update that fails, and a game that appears locked can have different causes. Write down the exact error code and message before changing settings. PlayStation’s error-code index separates issues such as insufficient storage, network errors, license or subscription verification, unavailable content, and installation failures.

Check service status and your access to the game
Check PlayStation service status first. If the page reports an alert affecting the relevant service, wait for it to be restored before trying again; changing console settings will not resolve an outage.
Next, make sure you are using the account entitled to the game, that its PlayStation Plus subscription is active, and—if the title is from the Game Catalog—that the game is still listed there. If access is shared from another account, confirm the relevant console-sharing setting: Console Sharing and Offline Play on PS5, or primary PS4 activation on PS4. PlayStation’s download troubleshooting guidance covers account and game-access checks.

If the game is locked or entitlement cannot be confirmed, restore licenses after checking the account and subscription. For the PS4 error WS-46332-8, PlayStation describes the issue as “Your PlayStation®Plus content isn’t able to download.” Its WS-46332-8 instructions say to restart the console, go to Settings > Account Management > Restore Licenses, wait a few minutes, then turn the console off and back on. Contact PlayStation Support if this does not resolve the problem.
Retry a download that will not start or is stuck
Try the queue controls before deleting the game. PlayStation recommends pausing and resuming the item, then cancelling and deleting it and starting the download again from the Library if it remains stuck.
PS5
- Open Downloads/Uploads from the control center.
- Select the game, then choose Pause and Resume.
- If it still fails, choose Cancel and Delete. Open Game Library and start the download again.
PS4
- Open Notifications > Downloads.
- Select the game and choose Pause and Resume.
- If it remains stuck, choose Cancel and Delete, then retry from Library.
Check the console’s required free space
Use the free-space requirement displayed for the specific title, rather than assuming the listed game size is all the space you need. Compare it with the console’s available storage.

PS5
- In Game Library, select the title and open its more menu.
- Choose View Product and check the minimum free space shown.
- Check available space under Settings > Storage.
PS4
- In the PlayStation Store, open the game’s Details section and check its required free space.
- Check available space under Settings > Storage.
Test the connection and update the console
If the download is stuck, run the console’s internet connection test at Settings > Network. If it reports a connection problem, follow PlayStation’s connection troubleshooting steps. A wired connection is also an optional diagnostic if you can try one; it may help determine whether the issue is specific to Wi-Fi, but it will not fix an outage, entitlement problem, or lack of storage.

Restart the console and check that its system software is current. For a game-start failure followed by a re-download, PlayStation also suggests trying a wired connection if possible; it is a troubleshooting option, not a guaranteed fix.
Repair a failed installation or update
For an update that will not install, PlayStation’s sequence is to test the internet connection, restart the console, update system software, and then delete and reinstall the affected game or app. If that does not work, use the Safe Mode option for your console. Follow PlayStation’s Safe Mode instructions rather than selecting other recovery options at random.
PS5
In Safe Mode, choose Clear Cache and Rebuild Database. The PS5 menu uses this combined option.

Do not start with initialization or system-software reinstallation: these are more disruptive recovery options, not routine first steps. If support directs you to a destructive recovery, back up important data first; PlayStation warns that PS4 initialization erases data stored on the console.

These examples from PlayStation’s official index illustrate why the exact code matters. They are not a complete diagnostic list; look up your own code in the current PlayStation error-code index.

Contact PlayStation Support if it still fails
If the steps above do not resolve the problem, contact PlayStation Support with the exact error code and message, the console model, and a short description of what happened and which steps you tried. PlayStation’s download troubleshooting page also asks for the time you attempted the download and, if possible, a screenshot or video. Those details help support direct the issue to the relevant account, code, or installation path.
