Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFor low FPS or stuttering on a Lenovo Legion Go S, first check the power source and performance modes, then compare another game and adjust that title’s graphics settings. Update drivers or firmware only through the support route for your exact model and operating system. The Legion Go S is available with Windows and SteamOS, and its configurations vary, so the right steps depend on which version you have.
Start by identifying your Legion Go S and the problem
Before changing settings, note the exact model or SKU, whether it runs Windows or SteamOS, the affected game, and when the problem began. Also record whether it happens on battery, while plugged in, or both, and what power or thermal mode is active. These details help distinguish a game-specific slowdown from a broader system issue.

Lenovo’s Legion Go S 8ARP1 specifications, dated May 15, 2026, identify an AMD Ryzen Z2 Go configuration and list Windows 11 and SteamOS options. Do not assume that every Legion Go S has the same hardware or operating system; check the specification and support information for your own SKU before changing drivers, BIOS, or recovery settings.

Check power and performance modes
Compare plugged-in and battery performance
Connect a known-compatible adapter and compare the same game and scene on AC power and battery. On Windows, Lenovo documents the Best performance setting for plugged-in use when maximum performance is wanted. The Windows path is Settings > System > Power & battery; the mode can also be set in Legion Space. Lenovo describes Balanced as a compromise and Best power efficiency as a battery-conservation option. Menus can change with software versions. If Windows Energy saver is enabled, Lenovo says the OS power-mode feature is unavailable. See the Lenovo Legion Go S Windows User Guide.

Check Legion Space thermal mode and TDP on Windows
In Legion Space, check that the device is not in Quiet mode or a low custom TDP for the game you are playing. Lenovo’s Windows guide lists 30 W Performance, 10 W Quiet, and Custom from 5–40 W. These are documented mode settings, not promises that a game will draw that much power or achieve a particular frame rate. Change one mode at a time and compare the same scene so you can tell whether it makes a difference.
Find out whether the issue is game-specific
Try another game or compare a repeatable scene in the affected title. If only one game stutters, lower its resolution and demanding graphics options before changing system-wide settings. Lenovo’s general guidance for Legion devices identifies anti-aliasing, global illumination or real-time shadows, texture quality, and particle effects as options that can affect frame rate. Reduce a small number at a time and compare the same scene. Lenovo’s guidance is not a tested Legion Go S preset, and different games can respond differently. See Lenovo’s gaming-performance guidance.

Update software using the route for your operating system
Windows
Check Lenovo Vantage or the support page for your exact model for current device drivers. Lenovo’s Windows guide also says BIOS updates can be checked in Legion Space > Disks and Drivers. Use the package intended for your SKU; do not rely on instructions or downloads for a different Legion model. Current driver and BIOS version numbers are not established here, so check Lenovo’s current support information rather than relying on a version listed elsewhere.
SteamOS
Use Lenovo’s Legion Go S SteamOS FAQ for model-specific update and recovery information, and follow Valve’s SteamOS support guidance where applicable. Steam Support lists Legion Go S among officially powered-by-SteamOS devices. Keep these steps separate from Windows driver and BIOS instructions. A reinstall or recovery can be disruptive, so it is not a first response to ordinary stutter.

When to contact Lenovo support
If the problem continues across multiple games after checking power modes, game settings, and official updates, gather the details that make it reproducible before contacting Lenovo:
- Exact model or SKU and operating system/build
- Affected game, where the slowdown occurs, and whether other games are affected
- Whether the issue occurs on battery, plugged in, or both
- Active power or thermal mode and the settings you changed
- Any displayed temperatures or error messages
- The date and version of any update after which performance changed abruptly
A slowdown that begins after an update is useful information to report, but timing alone does not establish that the update caused it. The available information does not establish a universal temperature threshold for performance loss, a specific SteamOS stuttering bug, or a general hardware defect.

Would a different charger improve performance?
Lenovo’s May 15, 2026 PSREF for Legion Go S 8ARP1 lists a 65W USB-C adapter with PD 3.0 as a configuration item. Consider a replacement only if your current adapter is missing, damaged, or unsuitable; confirm compatibility and USB-C Power Delivery support for your exact handheld. The specification does not show that a higher-wattage charger guarantees better game performance.
